Vintage Reds. Ill discipline and high error rate.

Yep what I have been watching at Suncorp when I was living there. They just slow learners it seems.

Time for a new voice at coach.

Yep even Thorn is saying it.

Here's the decision on that red card:

    Zach Mercer red card dismissed

The Montpellier Hérault Rugby No 8, Zach Mercer, has had the red card shown to him during his club’s Heineken Champions Cup, Round of 16 match against the Exeter Chiefs at Sandy Park, dismissed following an independent Disciplinary Hearing.

Mercer was sent off by the referee, Andrew Brace (Ireland), in the 50th minute of the match for tackling the Exeter Chiefs back row, Christ Tshiunza, in a dangerous manner in contravention of Law 9.13.

    >Law 9.13 A player must not tackle an opponent dangerously
Under World Rugby’s Sanctions for Foul Play, Law 9.13 relating to dangerous tackling carries the following sanction entry points – Low End: 2 weeks; Mid-range: 6 weeks; Top end: 10 to 52 weeks.

An independent Disciplinary Committee comprising David Martin (Ireland), Chair, Gordon Black (Ireland) and Bogdan Zebega (Romania), viewed footage of the incident and heard evidence by video conference from Mercer, who accepted that he had committed an act of foul play but did not accept that it warranted a red card.

The committee also heard submissions from the Montpellier Hérault Rugby Director of Rugby, Philippe Saint André, from the club’s Defence and Laws Coach, Alex Ruiz, from the club’s Team Manager, Tom Whitford, and from the EPCR Disciplinary Officer, Liam McTiernan. The club’s legal representative, Joris Loupien, was also present during the hearing.

The committee decided that although Mercer had committed an act of foul play, the tackle did not warrant a red card. The sending off was therefore dismissed and Mercer is free to play.

EPCR have the right to appeal the decision.

I watched the extended highlights this morning, was a fun game to watch in the shortened form, lots of nice rugby and close until the end.

    Jorgensen looks class.

Thought it amusing the line between the cheap ground admission and the side on terrace seats

@Canes4life can't wait for that one! Home game I believe?

Yeah home game I believe, with two very winnable games coming up for the Canes, that game will be a good chance to make a statement before the bye.

Geez might have to see what I can arrange, came down to Caketin for Chiefs game last year, really enjoyed it.

I finally had a chance to watch this game. Good to see Wrampling have a strong game until he had to leave the field with cramp. I hadn't realised he was still so young, being eligible for the U20s next year too. Gabe Robinson did his NZ U20 chances no harm either.

@Darren agree Darren, as a Canes man from day 1 in 96, this is best I feel about our prospects for quite a few years. I think all we need to round of team is a couple of big locks! And sign up Roigard for a few years so we don't lose him!

Commentators had in correct in saying that Matatu were better prepared for Finals through lots of defensive work during the RR.
Manawa defence wasn't really tested or when it was they just scored more which absolved the defensive errors.
A bit much reliance on 15 players from the Manawa coaches and I agree that a bit of on field leadership was lacking when plans weren't coming off. They were easily eating metres when they played one off drives but would then lose connection on a drive and get turned. That's a lack of focus through tiredness.
Still a good campaign overall and some big lessons learned for the future.
    Well played Matatu

I think you'll have 6 of the starting backs for the NZ U20s from this game. The Hurricanes 9, 10 and 11, and the Blues 12, 13 and 15. Add Nordstrom to the right wing and that will be a lethal backline. The forward pack isn't so obvious.

i feel we are strugling at tighthead this season. ryan not us good as last season and dyer finding his feet.

Yeah, Ryan is finding the scrummaging is different in SR compared to Europe. The main thing is just to have a solid platform on your own ball.

Crusaders play like shit and win, normal service restored in round robin play. I'm a bit disappointed in the Bumboys though, teams either grow another leg playing the Crusaders or spin the wheel picking a squad management 22 strategically and hoping for the best. Given the Crusaders absences you'd think picking the another leg team might have been an opportunity.

But no, look at the scoreboard.

You did see that the whole core of the Brumbies side were rested? They flagged this one as a development game in their season planning by the looks of it.
Dumb decision IMO as they aren't going to get a home semi without beating the Saders and it turned out that they painted themselves into a corner as with the reshuffled (but still strong starting XV) 23 the Saders listed the game would have been there for them to take.
I would find it funny except it did no favours to other NZ teams handing the Saders an easy win.

That seems to be exactly what he means. I think you and @Canerbry are just using different words to say the same thing.
