@MN5 if you’re in the minority, doesn’t mean that you’re the funny one, not the fern? 🤔

    My humour is subjective

seriously how the fuck is Hadlee not unanimous in this?

When was last time that we all agreed on anything?

IIRC there were dissenting voices about R McCaw being God. Just crazy people on here.

I'm polytheist, McCaw is one of the Gods (but MJ was a better rugby player). 🎣

Our best T20 XI is pretty conclusive.

    McCullum (wk)
    Guptill
    Munro
    Williamson
    Taylor
    Neesham
    Santner
    Vettori
    Southee
    Fergusson
    Boult

No Ish? Am surprised. I think.

    Agree.

And is Taylor really a great T20 batter?

Form is temporary, class (in the form of mighty blows over cow corner) is permanent.

For me, as this is a test side and bowlers are there to get wickets, I'll leave out Vettori in favour of Wagner - We have never produced a spinner who actually could run through a side and Vettori is notable more for his longevity than his penetration (at Test level).
As for batsmen, I can't go past Crowe, Kane and Rosco for our middle order but before Kane arrived on the scene, I would have had Donnelly in the mix and would have batted Sutcliffe at 6 as post the 53 boxing day test he was never the same against pace by his own admission.
GMT still gets in but I do rate Latham - very few batsmen perform well everywhere so one series in Aus I can treat as an outlier. Stewie Dempster gets serious consideration and given he played as an opener in the days of uncovered domestic wickets, that explains to me a FC average of 45. I'll be honest, I could put Donnelly and Dempster in my side without blinking even now. Even if it meant replacing Hogan with Donnelly - which for those of you who know me, is a huge admission

Shit, so do I (but I have been drinking).

Twice a day is quite some goal. I'm going for being correct once next year, didn't happen this year, but got to have aspirations.

Smith, had a decent SR for the era and was a fantastic keeper.

Do you have to pick a 'soecislist" all rounder? Or will we end up with several just picking our best batsmen and best bowlers anyway?

ESPN tells me that Turner has an average of almost 50 in this format, opening the batting, with a highest score of 171* (average opponents for that).

Second is Guppy with 44 and a much better strike rate.

Astle (surprisingly as he is one of my favorite players) comes in below Crowe and Latham which surprised me.

    @MN5 against us in 78.

We were 1-0 up in series. Boycott was (stand in) captain.

We got past the follow on. England wanted quick runs and a sporting declaration. Boycs was Boycs.

God bless youtube. I love how Beefy tells the story with such glee and not a hint of remorse.

Find New Zealand cricket T20I matches batting most runs career at ESPNcricinfo. Records and stats of New Zealand T20I matches batting most runs career.

Top five run-scorers for NZ are Guptill, McCullum, Taylor, Munro and Williamson - by quite a wide margin.

Rossco has the weakest stats - lowest average and strike rate, but he's also batted lower in the order than the others.

Scanning the stats, probably the only guy with much of a case to push Ross out is Craig McMillan - who has a better average and much better strike rate - but, from a pretty small sample.

Macca perhaps a contender for the 6 slot along with Neesham and Scotty Styris - but, the latter two perhaps need to be discussed in the all-rounder thread.

Surprises me that T20 has been around long enough that Macca even played it.

Scott Styris - 6th most runs by an NZer at a decent strike rate.

Plenty of wickets at a good average and excellent economy rate.

Did BMac do much keeping in T20? I don't remember him behind the stumps much. Makes it as an opening batsmen easily though.

    @MN5 Blair squared [shudder]

There's a long trail of tried and failed opening batsmen subsequent to John Wright and Trevor Franklin. (I'm wondering how much of this we might lay at @Snowy's door - tried to collect him for a coat at Gatwick 🙂 )?

At a quick glance through the records - Matthew Bell, Craig Cumming, Daniel Flynn, Peter Fulton, Martin Guptill, Blair Hartland, Phil Horne, Jamie How, Peter Ingram, Tim McIntosh, James Marshall, Darin Murray, Rob Nicol, Michael Papps, Blair Pocock, Aaron Redmond, Hamish Rutherford, Craig Spearman, David White.

To be fair, some of these guys weren't that bad - quite a few actually had better records than Trevor - and should have got more tests. Others were pretty desperate rotations by selectors looking to pull rabbits from hats. I've listed the ones I can remember who averaged less than 30.

That is a long and depressing list

Can we nominate a combo - Dan about 2-3 years into his career before his back injury for his attacking bowling (honestly, watch him then and there was flight, loop and turn) and later Dan for his batting and bowling variations?

So you want two Dans in your team? I'm a fan of his but two?
