Haha Scorz, my drummer-nerd mate in highschool used to bore us with this bloke (yea, he's good, but really it's like Satriani with drums, so can't hold my interest for long).

FWIW my all-time favourite drummers are Danny Carey from Tool, and Jimmy Chamberlain from the Pumpkins. -
My favourite drummers are Ian Paice, Stewart Copeland, Lars Ulrich, Questlove, Ginger Baker, Keith Moon, Chad Smith, John Bonham, Michael Shrieve ( Santana ) and maybe a few others whose names escape me.

Totally agree with M4L, I dig musical virtuosity provided it is in the context of a great song so Satriani, Vai, Malmsteem etc for example don't do it for me three fifths of five eighths of fuck all as much their hero Richie Blackmore who did his guitar wankling in the contexts of awesome songs. Kirk Hammett ( more their generation that Blackmore ) may be similar technique wise than the three I mentioned but again, playing leads like that with the rest of Metallica rocking out ? a million times as fucken awesome.

Back on topic at the moment I am listening to heaps of Foos, NER*D and Eagles of Death Metal at the moment. Ipod is playing very little else at this point in time. -
Ulrich used to be an incredible drummer. Some of the stuff on "Justice" is unbelievable (the drum track on "The Shortest Straw" is unreal). But it apppears he has forgotten how to play any of this shit. Metallica are pretty shit live now, and i think most of it stems from the fact that the drumming is kind a shit, and most of the killer fills and speed stuff is left out. And he's a dick.
I just finished Enter Night, Urlich comes across as a complete and utter cock, I know fuck all about drumming but apparently he was very ordinary up until Justice and there was apparently a strong rumour that Cliff Burton and Hetfield were considering dumping him and replacing him with Slayers drummer.

Any other closet bogans here?I've been listening to some of Iron Maidens stuff from teh 80s lately.Steve Harris is an incredible bass player, the rest of the band aren't too shabby either. -

Metallica are a funny band to me, they have done a few tunes which put them right in the all time greats list like "One" "Master of Puppets" "Enter Sandman" and "Wherever I may roam". Seriously, those four songs are fucken sensational but they have also done some utter shit like "Whiskey in the jar" "memory remains" and others whose names escape me.

Kind of like judging a sportsman in my eyes really, Some of the stuff they have done is as good as ANYTHING I've ever heard in rock ( to paraphrase Patrick Bateman ) but theres enough shit there too to ensure they don't quite make my all time top 10 ( Top 20 probably though )

Mind you many lesser bands have lived off one awesome song and "One" is without a doubt Metallicas masterpiece and a track I never ever get sick of, fucken love the contrasting guitar leads from Hammett ( pure speed metal ) and Hetfield ( slightly more bluesy )
