Took him long enough.....
Hanging in for a decent golden handshake?
And probably on full pay/gardening leave... sounds like his resignation gets to pre-empt the report coming out. How convenient... and probably sums him up nicely.
Good to see the Dom Post editorial getting stuck in: https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/opinion/95414188/opinion-auditorgeneral-martin-matthews-right-to-quit

@Kirwan chair of the international young socialists doesn't look that great on your cv ATM ( cough Venezuela).
I dunno if the masses are really going to dive into that with their thought processes.
They aren't. I was listening to a podcast last night from a reporter that went there recently. His cameraman was shot woke they were there and he saw people killing dogs for food. It wasn't that long ago people like Ardern were holding the place up as a socialist paradise.
I'm sure Slater is.combing through her comments looking for something to embarrass her with. -

@Donsteppa ffs.
And still he tried to hang in there as the AG until yesterday...
Melbourne’s police fraud and extortion unit contacted the Ministry of Transport on July 25, 2014 saying that Harrison, clearly identified by her date of birth, was a person of interest who they wanted to interview. Matthews actually discussed this with Harrison, but nothing was done. Why?

I won't be surprised if this all goes alright for Labour.
Green leader shooting herself in the foot and then reloading.
A temporary groundswell of cash and helpers coming forward
A fresher looking leader in comparison to othersIt's far too early to make bold predictions on this in my opinion.
Plus very difficult for Nats to go after her without seeming like a lot of bullying grey middle class men (which of course in the main they are and nothing wrong with that at all)
This could get very interesting 8 weeks is possibly not long enough for Adern to get found out. As I've said repeatedly the Nats are evidencing a lot of 3rd term arrogance and have been rocked by a succession of mini scandals. If there was a credible opposition they would potentially be in trouble. I wonder what/how effective their strategy is for a Labour party under Adern. So far its been pretty clever I think. No attacks yet while the honeymoon period is on but move the debate back on to policy by the early leaking of the transport investment in Akl (something they were always going to release ahead of Labours transport announcement on Sunday).
However if Adern does promote some policies that look fresh (young) and exciting and then she can hold her own in the debates - possibly making English look past it - then it could be all on.
I think at the moment the undecided vote has ballooned. and remember Peter Dunne!!! brought 8 MP's into the house on the back of a strong TV performance -
And so it begins...,

I’m just trying to look past the cult of personality/objectification of her and see what her record suggests for the future.
I’m not seeing much except comments about her looks and age. Surely a potential Prime Minister needs something more than that?
That's pretty much all Justin Trudeau has been running on the past couple of years so I guess it's possible...

People are putting some heat on Corbyn to condemn Maduro after he praised him in 2014 as "a better way of doing things", but he's gone strangely quiet. Christ people actually wanted that guy in charge of the UK?
-
@No-Quarter Jesus , Ben Shapiro was pretty horrified by what he saw over there. Corbyn fluffed Chavez every chance he got , no surprises he won't condemn Maduro

Well I got into a discussion over the asking Jacinda if she wanted kids question. My oppositions (a number of woman and a liberal man) main argument is that it is sexist to think that a pregnancy might negatively impact a prime ministers performance. From this I learned one of 3 things.
a) Pregnancy is easy
b) Being Prime minister is easy
c) Some people live very deep in a fantasy land. -

We are not having enough kids, hence increased immigration. Frustrating that so many want to derail that conversation with nonsense calls of sexism.

What a hilarious week in politics and I thought 2014 was insane
Graham MacReady has just said he's going to launch a private prosecution against Turei.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
And David Seymours looking for a bit of utu over her and John Banks
-
So she won't stand down but won't seek a ministerial position.
Excellent she just condemned her party to seven weeks of questions over her behaviour and fitness to lead the party
