The U19s have just lost their semi-final to Counties Manukau. Full time score: 20-3 (HT: 8-3)
So again playing for 11th place. The team finished 12th both in 2015 and 2016.
They'll play either the NZ Heartland U19s or Southland U19s.This was today's line-up:
-
The first of two losses to Counties in a week probably
-
@Stockcar86 Yes, that's what I thought as well. Also wondering whether the non-selection of Farrell means that he's still injured, or that he's been called up for Shield Snorters duties to replace Mark Braidwood.
-
The U19s just beat Heartland U19s to finish 11th. That's one place better than the previous 2 years. Next year, some of this year's Hastings BHS 1st XV should be available for this team, unless they move out of the province like Naholo and Mua. Surely, they should be able to do better than 11th?
The final score was 26 to 16. Tries: Angus McKnight, Al Momoisea, Nathan Burton, Isaac Thomas; con Isaac Thomas 3x
Hard to judge players based on one game only, but I liked the look of Momoisea, Burton and the two locks. The halfback (Hokianga) looked quite handy, too. The replacement no. 8, Ulupano, is a giant. Ian Jones said in his commentary that even he felt small next to him. He didn't get much game time, but I saw him make some impressive fends. Got strong legs, too. Some handling errors, too, though.

Some more good news
Wellington Maori 30 - 43 Shield Snorters Saracens played at Porirua Park early this afternoon
Chainsaw was there in fine form so there should be a good selection of his action photos available sometime later today. I had to help a friend watch her son play for the Wellington Under 18s (he went good too) on an adjacent field so only really saw about two thirds of the second half with full concentration. The scoreboard was not operating but general consensus was that Wellington Maori was in front by a few when I started watching. I must have brought something with me as the Saracens looked pretty comfortable most of the time I was scrutinizing affairs. They looked to be playing at a faster pace than Wellington Maori could match, perhaps it was superior fitness kicking in? I did not have a team sheet with me but the HB fullback called Tom something looked to be a class above the opposition defenders twinkle toeing his was through a couple of times as well as using his speed to create huge problems for the home side defence, a couple of tries resulting from his thrusts. Tom later moved into centre where he was not quite so prominent. He earned himself a nice big tick next to his name in my book with two beautiful tackles where he twice bundled far bigger players into touch right on our goal line saving almost certain tries.
So far all in all a good start to the day (the 'Poos win excepted), hopefully it continues onto Albany tonight.
Ohhh, there was one thing that did not endear itself to me, one of the HB players got rucked beautifully when he failed to move out of the opposition side right on our goal line and proceeded to squeal to the referee. Take you punishment like everyone had to in the good old days and certainly do not let the opposition know it hurt you. -
