Building code question
-
We have a loft style room in our house that we want to put some sort of door on. Basically you go up a set of stairs to the room.
I understand there are restrictions about having doors directly in front of stairs?
Just wondering what the options might be before getting a builder out to take a look.

Have a look at page 31 , it depends on which way the door onto the stairwell is hung . Also you’ll have make provision for a handrail and it will need to balusters or similar to meet code.

Thanks for the reply. The stairs have a handrail already, so the bit I’m confused about is the landing requirement.
If the door opens out from the stairs, do you need a landing? Or in other words, can you have a door hard up against the stairs?
Or do I need look into accordion door options?
