The economy bounced back strongly in the lead up to winter, with Statistics New Zealand reporting the strongest quarter of growth in two years.
Who'd have thunk it?
Turns out Jacinderella is a Master Economic Manager - just like Trump!

Nothing like Trumps economic achievements yet, but good to see Trump is getting some acknowledgement.
How trump got the economy moving is well known, but what exact policies has this govt introduced to promote growth?

@donsteppa I expect the countries they come from makes a difference too.
I know a family that fled Croatia in the 90s (at the time NZ & Canada were the only countries accepting them) they settled and integrated and are extremely successful, as are the children (academically and sporting)
Genuine refugees can be a massive asset to a country and certainly more productive than much of the local bogan trash. People who are genuinely happy to be in their new country and want success and to give something back will always be a net benefit. Economic refugees on the other hand....

What would malke this circle of political life complete would be for National to start rabbiting on about hoe this growth isnt being shared by all kiwis, how things arent 'fair' , people are sleeping in cars and the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

Informal devaluations of the currency?

On the tram this morning still working through Strange death of Europe book and end up sitting next to a woman in the full burka. How on earth can you possibly integrate in a western society when you wear that? I'm big on freedom but this is where I am absolutely not consistent, this attire should not be allowed in public. It signifies a particularly radical form of Islam that would mean the death of fairly normal freethinking individuals like myself, its basically a wall creating an us vs them divide and completely dehumanises women.

Any kind of ridiculous religious garb makes me sick. It's quite astonishing in an increasingly secular society that laughs at and mocks the previous more puritanical times that criticism of women and small girls walking around in small tents is considered ignorant and even racist. If someone wants to walk around like that and believe that crap then fine, but it should be equally fine to mock the shit out of this Medieval crap in the same way as we mock those trailer park churches, Mormons, Jehovahs Witnesses and all the rest of them.

That’s for next year I guess, after two years of doing fuck all their “ nine years of national “ narrative is going to look a bit silly .
If the growth is mostly down to dairy then they might like to dial back their bluster on their shill blogs like the standard who have two or three articles a week ranting about how awful dairy is for nz .

Yeah, it can be conflicting as I (and probably you) have always thought people can believe and wear whatever they want. But the ideas behind the burka are fucking hideous - that they do not interact with anyone outside of their immediate circles and hide themselves from other males as they belong to their husband. There's just no way you can justify defending it, and it should be openly mocked and criticised like everything else. Not to mention the security issues that come with covering your face.

That’s two in less than a year , for quite serious breaches too.
I'm happy enough that Meka got sacked for being an asshole - but, I don't really consider it a serious breach.
Serious breaches, in my view, are corruption and in those instances I don't just want to see Ministers sacked, I want them jailed and for the maximum sentence the law allows.
We're pretty lucky that we've got one of the least corrupt systems in the world and anything that compromises that should be dealt with extremely punitively!

Well we are still waiting for David Clark to be fired for offering someone a job for not going public about the fact he was lying about the problems at Middlemore.
There's more to Currans story too .

I agree, we take for granted how lucky we are in that regard. My wife is originally from PNG and the stories we always hear from family over there with regards to government corruption is just absolutely outrageous.

@no-quarter Yeah - I come across it with my work pretty frequently.
Here's your wife's neighbours...

Ardern s our of the country from today hence the sacking yesterday.
The sacking of a gay female Maori minister in the 125th anniversary of woman’s suffrage week is up there with Robyn Malcolm and her cronies causing anti union protests on labour weekend .

@paekakboyz said in NZ Politics:
@jegga isn't it just showing equal treatment for poor performance? Too bad there wasn't swifter action with Curran, but maybe Ardern sent the dismissal email to her work address instead of her gmail address
Nice . This isn’t going away either
