Alex the Kid was the nuts. Still remember the music
First "console" was one of these bad boys. Playing Tomb of Tarabash. On a fucking tape

Did anyone used to play Battle Isle in the early 90s?
We'd sneak off from school to my mates place (whose Dad was the guidance counsellor at school) and play two on two at lunch time. Two on two meant for of us would sit around the tiny computer whispering away to out teammate as we go.
Was a cracking game.

Yeah, turned based with split screens.
Another turn based game that I love (but falls out of the classic period) is Combat Mission.
You pick they battlefield, then pick the configuration/men/weaponry etc that you want in the battle and your opponent does the same, then you input your moves and it's all on.
It's fairly realistic in that you can use MG's to suppress squads and negatively impact their morale etc. One major issue with it is that if you get certain buildings first you can control things so I'd always select at least one truck or APC to get a squad to strategic points as quick as possible.
Edit: In the Afrika Corps version you can play as NZ.

Ha. Classic sequeway fellas....
First game I remember is Panzar assault. Took about half an hour to load ( on a tape ) and part of the fun was whether or not the fucken game would actually work or not.
....and the end result if it did was a block ( tank ) shooting other blocks.
rad.

I started on that original console, too. Was still working last time I tried it a few years ago at my parents place. Epic tank and plane wars (one turn in, shoot at the right time, game over) with that. Then I went up market to Vic 20, and Omega Race was so fkn hard I spent ages on it.

Bloody amusing look at this and reminiscing but you know what?
Modern isn't always better. A mate got Red Dead Redemption two, I house sat for him and played and I'm a massive western and GTA fan.
Despite all the things you can do and the massive world and amazing graphics I was bored fucken shitless.

I barely play games and if I do my kids kick my arse - except for the Street Fighter games. I choose Ken or Sagat and fuck them right up.

I used to get my arse kicked using Zangif and Dahlsin. Was embarrassing. Then my brother and I managed to get hold of a 2nd hand Megadrive and we spent a good year saving up for a copy of SS2. Went ballistic after that. Played it at an arcade last year and nearly went the whole way. Pity it wasn't 1992.
Anyone play GI Joe on C64? That was cool. Remember they had that decathlon game that absolutely farked up the joystick.

My son's fuck my shit up on Star Wars battlefront 2. It's actually embarrassing and to make it worse they make the condescending remarks like 'Ooooo you actually did ok Dad, you nearly killed me'
fluffybunnies.
Yeah, I experienced the same when I logged on to school my 11 year old. He just force pushed my off the cloud city for fun, like 100 times.
