@taniwharugby Well you will go and live in these third world regions like Kamo and such.

@taniwharugby said in NZ Politics:
@JC I dont live in Kamo...sheesh, is Jacinda your fact checker?
I'm like 10km away from there!
What the hell is wrong with Kamo? Good high school...

No surprises here. St Cindy shares with Key a healthy regard for the polls. It's really a win for both Labour and NZF.
Winnie has saved "Everyman" from the perils of the left. Labour can say if only more of you had given us yr party vote.... and they have effectively spiked National's only attack that was scoring any points
The Greens - well I guess they can revert to bleating on about how much they've saved the planet. Shaw's already going on about how much the current coalition has achieved more in 18 months than the Nats did in 9 years [talk about setting a low bar]
Personally this was pretty clearly the way it was going to play out from the moment the commission was appointed. The whole thing was an appeasement exercise. A gutless smoke and mirrors attempt to mollify the left while watching the polling intently.
I feel sorry for all the Nat supporters who are still bitter about "winning the last election but not being in power" and who naively thought CGT was the issue that would see them ride back into power.
National were fucked from the start unless Labour imploded. They then emasculated themselves with the leadership change and seem incapable of developing a coherent strategy - mainly because they seem collectively to be in denial.
They can't seem to drive a wedge between the coalition partners, they are an ineffective opposition on almost every front mainly it seems to me because they haven't grasped that they need to go bone deep into detail and start holding the (many) ineffective Ministers to account. I guess if your leader is a facile, shallow prick its to be expected the caucus as a whole will be pretty much the same.
National have relied on Labour being really stupid. Which they consistently have been, but the Nats are too poor to take advantage and they are stunned mullets when it comes to trying to counter the Jacinda effect.
I've thought from Day 1 this ould be at least a 2 term government. Now its not going to be taxed - I'd put the house on it.

@dogmeat I see the backdown on cgt as a win for national. They’ll probably lose the next election though.
The Greens have gone full retard since 15/3
The responses to that insane tweet are quite heartening if anything costs Labour the next election it’ll be Shane Jones or the Golly G/ Davidson takeover of the greens . The fact they deliberately misquoted Trump in their hate speech campaign says volumes about the honesty of their intentions.

it's a step, but not sure why they werent granted residency anyway!!

@taniwharugby Did we ever hear what happened about the (Nelson?) firefighter in a similar position?
Edit to add: Maybe there are a fuckton of details missing, but I'm so confused why that family would be denied residency when they are clearly self sufficient and contributing to the economy, plus providing a lot of jobs for a small business.
-
@taniwharugby So I guess we'll all be back in a year to do it again? Perhaps the official line is they need to apply as not to look like too soft a touch
-
That Nelson firefighter petition was an interesting one:
But the petition to keep him in the country seems unnecessary, as neither he nor his family are at risk of deportation.
"Mr Webster and his family are all legally in New Zealand and are not facing deportation, Immigration NZ manager Michael Carley told Newshub.
"Mr and Mrs Webster’s work visas are valid until 6 July this year and they will have the opportunity to apply for further visas before then. There is no compliance action planned against the family as they’re all lawfully in New Zealand."
It's unclear where the idea of Mr Webster's imminent deportation came from.

Uday Clark doesn’t appear to have got the memo about compassion, some of the cuts he’s made to health funding have been pretty brutal

Yeah , nah . I’m thinking getting someone who will always be remembered for being a fluffybunny with a chip on his shoulder about successful people who lumbered us with a billion dollar trainset and then paying said fluffybunny $1000 a day to sell the concept might have had something to do with it.
