I have listened to Appetite a LOT this week.
And i am now firmly of the view that the first 6 songs are up there with the first 6 songs of any record ever. Let alone a debut record. What an opening to a career. And i am completely unsurprised that they just exploded. Had anybody heard anything like it in 1987? It's not metal, it's not punk, what we know as alternative music didn't exist, it's just raw and dirty, but with an amazing groove to it.
And having listened to both Illusion records, they were not even close to recapturing that spirit. It's an over-long, over-produced bloated mess. And that's not surprising given the state of them by that point.
I missed this discussion last week. I never got into the Use Your Illusions after loving Appetite and GnR Lies.
My favourite from Appetite:
On FNM, I like Epic even if it's not one of the best on the album.
I used to have a video with Bill and Teds on it and then when that finished it had Faith No More's Brixton Academy concert - so I watched it a lot.
Faith no More killed it in that Brixton concert......"We care a lot" being a higlight for me.
We know that you love it when they break into New Kids on the Block in the middle of We Care A lot.
But yeah, that concert was awesome.
When I saw them in about 1993 they came out all together and did aerobics on stage for long enough for everyone in the crowd to look at each other and think wtf? The concert before that Patton wore an old school MacDonalds uniform for the whole gig. One like this

It does amuse me to no end that Jim Martin quit rock stardom to grow massive pumpkins......
The article is correct about "Annes song" though, one of my favourite tracks of theirs.

I’m sorry Crumb. I can’t take seriously anybody who thinks that wearing a fucking beret will make them look street tough. It’s a no from me.

If your musical interests are curtailed by the way somebody looks, you get a no from me right back at you. I listen with me ears, not my eyes. It’s a fuckin’ great song.

Ooooh. I just assumed that since you posted the video you liked the video...
Seriously though. Never said it’s not a good song. But I can’t take beret boy seriously. Same with Richard Ashcroft in that Verve video where he swaggers down the road bumping into people. If he did that for real in London someone would chin him. Also a good song though, liked it before he stole it from the Glimmers too.

@RLx31 I don't like his music at all, but by fuck Sam Smith can sing

Record-hunting, my best score of the weekend....
Probably circa 1967/‘68 (?), no date given.
