Building myself back up

So swimming Thursday night which was great. Felt like shite beforehand but felt amazing afterwards. Exercise is a hell of a drug!
Dropped Friday absolutely gone, but got up super early on Sat to back and tris at gym then go straight to swimming. Was alot of sprints but really hit the spot. Sunday was a very long walk with the gf (man I'm lucky, what a find). Back in pool this morning and was hoping for an easyish sesh but the handsome young bastard had other plans. Following warmup we had 400m, 50max, 50 easy, 300m, 50max, 50 easy, 200, 100 etc. 10 seconds rest after the max efforts otherwise nothing. Absolutely buggered today.
Eating wise I'm planning to cut out sugar for a month and see how I go. I usually indulge on Saturdays but will cut that out completely. Bit of an experiment.

@Rancid-Schnitzel sounds like you are getting plenty of the good kind of sugar anyways!!
-
Needed sleep so couldn't hit the gym yesterday morning but got the boys dinner ready early and then hit gym straight before pool. Was legs so went OK. Probably better getting them straight in the pool rather than after a day or two. Didn't mind this session too much but the 50m Max efforts in the middle are brutal. Carnt times it so can shame you if you try and let up.
This morning was ok chest and biceps. Swimming again tonight. Loving all this but need more sleep.

Think Friday has to be my designated rest day. Buggered and sore. Swimming last night. Head coach and former Olympian took over. Good bloke. Did a mix of stuff which tbh wasn't as bad as the young bastards, but the 10x100m with 10sec in between was a cnut.
Shouldn't complain though. My eldest had to go 60x100m yesterday. Yep, that is 6km. He was severely Friar Tucked after that.

@Rancid-Schnitzel shudder to think what your food bill would be. You guys must mow through the kai!

Youngest isn't so bad yet but eldest is ridiculous. Luckily he prefers quantity over quality so I get off pretty lightly. There is also a school mother who works at a big supermarket chain who nabs heaps of bakery stuff that they want to chuck out. That makes a big difference because eldest eats 6-8 rolls for lunch each day. I also live off chicken and rice so I'm a cheap overhead. One of those dudes selling that Home Fresh or whatever it is where they send stuff to your house was at the door yesterday and I just had to laugh. Eldest would inhale most of a family meal.

Up early for gym then swimming. Really liking this double-up. Back and tris then a pretty good set. Quite a few people which was nice and meant less focus on destroying me.
Sugar diet going OK. Youngest's birthday party so candy abounds, but I have stood firm!

Swimming this morning. Completely drilled me today. Had enough sleep but perhaps needed more after the kid's sleepover party.
Total bastard set of: 50max then straight to 200. No rest. 4 of those feckers. Then bands around the ankles and those hand flipper things. BĂ„stards. Could easily have 8-9 cups of coffee today.
As an interesting aside, one of the kids (lovely lad) asked me if I wanted a lolly. I said no because I was on a sugar diet. He said "My dad too". Thing is his dad is doing it to avoid become a diabetic. Seems to be alot of that going around. Not good.

Shoulders this morning. These buggers are always a bit sore due to the four swimming sessions but went ok. Added some military presses which rarely fail to do the job.
-
Ridiculous amounts of work and not enough sleep. Still got two swimming sessions in on wed and Thurs but gym was shut when I went on Thurs morning. Was thinking about gym today but just too farked. Probably ok with a rest. Will shoot for gym-pool tomorrow morning.
-
Last 3 days really good although chest/biceps then swimming isn't recommended. Had a great sleep on Saturday to Sunday then eldest wanted to go for a run! Went with him. Did about 6km which was a great effort from him.
Today I got up early and hammered legs before swimming. That makes more sense although was a bastard session with IM. Farking hate IM. Butterfly is not natural and why tf would you want to swim on your back?

Pretty farking shitty end to last week. Did chest and biceps on Thursday morning and after breakfast stood up and nearly passed out. Happened suddenly. Went to the doc and thankfully nothing serious but he suspected it was the flu coming on. Shit. But just got blood test back and it was low blood sugar. Basically I've been training too much and not eating enough. Still not 100% yet, but at least good to know the cause. Been told to eat more and cut out one of the swimming days. No big surprise. Have been overdoing it recently and the lack of sleep and long work days don't help.
Keen to get back into it tomorrow but will take it easy. Lesson learned.

Not enough leg work ?
Seriously, look after yourself me old mate. We only get one body and despite defying the years time will catch up with us at some stage, ya gotta listen to it.

Ha ha. Actually legs have actually been wellpounded recently. I even have calves poking through!
Cheers Mate. The body will eventually tell you when it's had enough. Thankfully it wasn't too dramatic. The ridiculous thing is that I had the blood test the day after I'd been to the doc and then went crazy on the sugar (softdrinks and sweets). Blood sugar must have been crazy low the day I nearly passed out.

Got back to the gym today and it went ok. Did about 80% and that was enough. Still not back to fully fit but happy it wasn't anything serious or neck related. I was getting some shoulder twinges before the low blood sugar so the time off certainly helped that. Feels fine now.

Rebound hyperglycemia? Usually associated with diabetes and insulin shots but I think can happen to anyone. Best not to try and immediately get the sugar levels up too quickly as it can actually cause a dip (or something like that). An aircraft accident was put down to it many years ago. Pilot hadn't eaten for ages and started eating chocolate bars and sweets. Apparently caused things to get worse temporarily. Passed out, crashed before sugar levels stabilised (don't know enough about it know how long that takes).

Agree with the advice shared, take it easy and take your time building back up. You've been doing a power of work and need to find that balance with fueling the machine. Not to mention sleep, do you crash out at like 8pm or something to get the zzz's in before your am swim sessions??

That would explain it. Cheers for the info.
Yeah I'm being sensible this week. Looking back, I was being a bit stupid. I was only getting 5.5 to 6 hours sleep most nights. That's not enough when you're doing 8-9 sessions a week. Ultimately your body will eventually tell you when enough is enough.

@Rancid-Schnitzel ugh, dude that's roughly my average sleep and I've got a 2.5 year old!
With that level of activity I'd be aiming for 7 hours absolute minimum. Gotta give yourself a chance to recover and benefit from all that training bro.

She's 2.5 now? Damn time flies.
You're 100% right mate. I was taking the piss and got done for it. But that shit gets addictive you know. Nothing better to thrash out the pressures of life.
