@Rancid-Schnitzel ha ha crazy aye - time flies when you are sleep deprived and smitten with your little one.
Absolutely agree with the need to smash out the training mahi - but we know how important sleep is for performance (giggity) and to get the most gains from your efforts.
Hopefully framing it as more sleep = better performance and results makes it an easier tweak to your regime
The odd bad sleep is ok as long as you make up for it later in the week I reckon

@MN5 funnily enough there has been a bit of research around that from a training perspective. Unfortunately it points to the catch up sleep not being that effective in offsetting the impact of poor sleep!! which sucks ass ha ha. But from a day-to-day perspective I definitely feel better when I've managed to get a long sleep after a series of short nights.

I never thought much about sleep until my first kid was born. I always thought the more you slept the more rested you were, but that's certainly not the case if you're not used to sleeping much. I remember our first weekend away from the boy. I must have slept 11-12 hours and felt like an absolute zombie the next day. It's like your body switches from rest mode to hibernation mode. Since then I've always been conscious of not sleeping more than 7-8 hours because I just feel like crap afterwards. Obviously it would help if I got used to that pattern of sleep but unfortunately that's not going to happen for the next decade or so....

We’re all wired a bit differently. I have Sunday as my only really free day and if I feel like staying in bed til late morning then I fucken well do so. Love a good lie in !!
My boys also point out I fall asleep on the couch occasionally in classic ‘dad’ fashion.....mouth open snoring loudly

For sure. My wife could sleep for half the day and be fresh as a fooken daisy. I got about 8.5 hours last night and am pretty lethargic today.
Your boys will hopefully film that and put it on Facebook one day!

So after much umming and ahhing I decided to go to swimming last night. It went really well. I didn't pass out in the pool and felt much better after the session. Wasn't too intense but tough enough. The crazy thing with fitness is how it takes quite a lot of time to get to a certain level but you can lose that fitness so quickly.
Chest and triceps today. Not bad. Bit of a rush but a handy sesh.

@Rancid-Schnitzel swimming, especially how you've been going, sounds really demanding on the body. Not in stressful way, but as a merger of form, cardio and endurance. It's certainly got a massive skill component alongside the fitness side of things!!
Awesome to hear it went well tho

Yeah it's like the ultimate pump type workout, particularly if it's anerobic. Really great and addictive training but you don't feel the need for fluids as much afterwards and that has been my issue. I also don't think it's a coincidence that I cut out sugar about 3 weeks ago. Have to find that balance and clearly I stuffed it up. But it's not really a bad thing when the doc tells you to exercise less and eat more!

Sore as a bitch today. Great swim last night. Was hoping to hit gym today but no way is that happening. Happy the week has at least ended far better than it started.

Didn't swim on Saturday but went for what should have been a 9km run. Went with gf and her 9 year old daughter was on her bike. The daughter has been ridiculous recently and on the final half was having a bitch and moan every 10 metres. Was a barrel of laughs. And then in one of our rare moments of movement gf gets a calf strain. What a freaking disaster. It's so difficult when the kid isn't yours and it's hard for the gf with Disney Land dad down in NSW. Not sure what to do but she is absolutely taking the piss right now.
Back to swimming on Monday which really hurt. Intense warm up set then 100m max then immediately another 100m. It was then 75max +125m, 50max + 150m etc. That absolutely sucks because a proper max effort will have you gasping for air and going straight into 100 plus metres is fooking hard.
Today: Back and biceps. Went ok but my shoulder is causing me serious grief. Might have to bite the bullet and head to the physio. For a tight arse like me that isn't a nice prospect.

It was tempting, but then I'd have had to carry the damn bike back.
She's constantly going for an Oscar winning performance. She has this ridiculous love/hate thing with my eldest and gets extremely pissed off when he's not showing her enough attention. So once she deliberately walked into him and then pretended to limp around with a hurt leg the rest of the night. I know she pretended because she kept forgetting which leg was actually hurt.

I'll have to check with old mate @NTA but I'm fairly certain I got us a discount at the pub when we had beers. My work is done
-
@NTA said in Building myself back up:
@MN5 that was my 2017 visit I believe. You knew the manager. @Paekakboyz was there?
Correct. That pub went under, I'm sure the managers generosity had nothing to do with it though
-
Shoulder still sore but Deep Heat is my friend 👍.
Legs this morning. Hadn't done legs for 2 weeks and felt it. Loving the lunges. Swimming tonight. Hopefully shoulder ok.Youngest has a virus so I hope to fark I don't get that as well. Farking hate this time of year. That farking school is a disease factory.
-
Swimming last night. Young cnut farking tried to kill me again. 10x 50m, 50 sec for swim and rest. Twice. Plus all kinds of other shit.
Farking too snowed under for training today but will manage swimming tonight and then hopefully some much needed chest tomorrow.
