Dying

Had some low alcohol beer a few months back. Was pleasantly surprised how good it tasted compared to the vile, sweet low strength stuff I tried years ago.
Must try that gin you mentioned this Christmas. We go thru gallons of the stuff and an option of a lighter varierty will go down well.

@RoninWC I have my work Xmas function tomorrow night, but I have also agreed to help my almost 80 year old neighbour sand the bottom of his yacht on Sunday as it is out of the water...so I should take it easy...
Don't bother taking it easy - just think of it as penance. If it's going to be bad, it might as well be awful. The real problem is twofold:
- A marked inability to really back up. Two huge nights in a row and I'm recovering for a week.
- A complete inability to go for a run the next morning and sweat through it. Now it's water, berocca, coffee, dip in the pool, B&E, coffee, KFC. Except the for cold water shock treatment and KFC excursion, it's all laying on the couch.

@JC Google tells me I'm not the only one suffering nomad-nostalgia!
forgot about these Nomads but I was referring to these

Gin is basically a crock of herbal shit that gets none of it's flavour from alcohol, so a non alcoholic version should be very similar. Beer not so much. There are some less shit than others and it's better than drinking coke.
Way worse than drinking and coke though. -

All jokes aside the biggest thing I note about me with getting older is boozing.
My desire just drops and drops. I still love a beer, but a pint or two is generally enough for me these days. I just can’t be bothered with the shit sleep, hangover, hangxiety and The General lousy feelings and demeanor the next day.
A mate got me going on Heineken double zeros and I’m turning for them in a big way. They really do allow you to have a session with your buddies, in a way that water, coke and line Soda don’t.
oh, so you are transitioning as you age?

i fucking love beer.
I don't go out much, i drink at home. But i have boozy neighbours, so that's real easy. Afternoon stubbies all weekend. It's fucking grand.
And now that it's hot, afternoon stubbies in the pool, watching the cricket on teh TV. Now this is living.
And yeah, i have put away a shit ton of red wine this year as well.
I am trying very hard not to drink during the week. But that is proving exceedingly difficult.
What has changed is, on the odd occasion i do go out, i don't stay out late. I am basically Cinderella.

For me booze highlights the difference between INTEND and INTENT.
I go for a walk every night after work. I always intend not to stop in at the pub on the way back (costs too much, blood pressure, weight, liver etc).
However I lack the intent to stick to my resolution. I have invariably had a shitty day at work. I've been there 13 hours - then walked for an hour. It's bloody easy to rationalise that I deserve one.
"What'll it be Dogmeat a pint or a jug?"
I'm a bad, bad, badbadbad DM.
I only really have a massive few days on it when my bro is over as I have detailed before. Seedy doesn't begin to describe it but I find a beer helps enormously

Absolutely. There is nothing good (long term) that can happen to a married guy with kids after 9.30pm
Though I'm actually just a boring cnt too these days. I've actually found myself leaving perfectly good functions early, to come home, crack open a bottle of red on my own, and log on to "talk" to you bastards!!! 😂
-
@mariner4life I'm not proud of it

talking to everyone here is not something to be proud of..
coming home early to crack a bottle of red open however
-
well, earlier in life I would have had to lie to knock off early for a big Friday night. Always lived for a big Friday night, now much happier to be at home
Now I work from home on Friday's, one eye on work two screens on different cricket test matches and had my first beer with lunch. Can't complain today

So anyway back to the garbage sorting...
Who else is losing the beer belly war?
I've had a bung foot now for about 6 months and its become difficult to do enough gym work to keep it at bay. Add to that a work restructure meaning more hours and more stress, as well as moving in with my Mrs who is a terrific cook with an ethnicity from the land of carbs...and its a losing battle. At least when I was single there was that motivation that if I didn't lose it I wouldn't get laid..not an issue here yet but I don't want to push my luck too far. I miss the days when injuries lasted weeks not months. -
@Rembrandt yeah been a busy year and I'm only good at exercising in the morning unless it's team sport, but a bing knee not coming right (vicious cycle) has put paid to that. Eating better though so at least I'm a fair bit more away from the ton than I was this time last year!

I'd come home knackered on Friday, crack open a bottle of Pinot, eat loads of carbs and fall asleep and repeat on Saturday.
Weight 15kg less than when i was working and have gone down two trouser sizes. Lot more physical activity I guess.
Injuries are a bugger as you say. Every year I book a session with a physio who goes thru my aches and pains and gives me exercises to do. Works quite well

Joints suck, knee was my last one. It's not just the injury but everything connected and being out of balance. Latest theory on mine is that my ankle issue is actually my calf. Injured ankle, use it less, strength goes in other parts of the body, new injury occurs, rinse and repeat. Hoping there is some great advancements in bionics before I get much older.

I'm super lucky to have a best mate and cuz who is an excellent PT and has written me a brilliant programme that I'm yet to get stuck into because I'm a lazy fuck. Check out his stuff on mobility and flexibility which is his number one - life changing. If you find yourself heading to welly I'd recommend booking a sesh!
