The Gentleman: A return to the London gangster style movie for Guy Ritchie(more Lock Stock/Snatch than Revolver) that I thought was an enjoyable couple of hours. Colin Farrell was hilarious in this, he has a smallish role but had me in hysterics the entire time. Quite a decent cast: Mathew McConaughey, Hugh Grant, Farrell, Henry Golding, Eddie Marsan and Charlie Hunnum.
The Clone Wars (movie): Better than the prequels although Boba Fett has changed from being a Maori to an Australian so that sucks balls. Can't believe I hadn't already seen this (or maybe I did and forgot?) Anakin seems to regress from this movie (not sure what happens in the series) by the time Revenge of the Sith comes around.
Have you watched the clone wars tv series?
Well worth a watch and at times definitely not a kids series..
On a whole car superior to the prequelsmy youngest looooves it, watches it constantly. it is pretty bloody good.

On a whole car superior to the prequelsHaven't watched the series, I'm not really a fan of animation so it's never been high on my too watch list. If they made a live version I'd be first in line.

There's an episode list online so you can avoid the stinkers, but plotting/story wise it's some of the best Star Wars out there. Best part is watching the prequels after seeing a good chunk of it makes those films better.
They do the impossible and make Anakin pretty cool.

If I watch it I'd have to deep dive and do the whole thing.
It's really just the animation thing that's stopping me, a few years back I realised I didn't really like animation all that much so I only watch the odd Pixar these days.
Xmas break seems to be my Stars Wars watching time (the Prequels, Clone Wars, ROTJ as well as the recent movie were all watched this break) so maybe next Xmas I'll watch S1, so in 8 years time I'll be caught up.
Yeah, even the movie made Anakin cooler.

It's pretty stylised animation. I found it pretty easy to enjoy, but I do like comics and art so it's up my street.
Oh, I'm pretty similar, I've always been into comics, have some manga and Lichtenstein on my walls, used to watch manga ... just found myself not wanting to watch animated stuff a few years back. Would like to watch all the Star Wars animated series but would have to force myself to start watching I guess.

Yup clone wars Anakin is a lot better then prequels anakin.
Rebels is a great series too, takes a while to find itself but once it does itβs bloody good. Ties in nicely with the original trilogy and the previous Clone Wars.

With all the movie remakes in the past decade, do you think they could do that to Star Wars Episodes 1-6?
I'd definitely watch. And they could still use James Earl Jones....
Itβs more likely that they do a Darth Vader movie for the period between 3 and 4.
Some of the DV comics have been pretty good.

Really looking forward to 1917, reviews are glowing and it is a genre I like.
Let me get this right; the premise is two men go wandering off into previously enemy held areas to prevent a regiment walking into an ambush? Because there's no other way to get the message through?
The film making is going to have to be awesome for me to to not sit there saying "bullshit" to myself the whole way through.
I think I'd rather watch Blackadder 4 and Journey's End again.
OK, mea culpa. I watched this and it's actually pretty good. Worth seeing.

Outlaw King
Chris Pine (of all people) is Robert the Bruce. The movie is essentially the 3-4 years after the death of William Wallace condensed in to what seems like a couple of months (and thus one 2 hour movie).
Surprisingly, it's actually really good, i enjoyed it. The battles are satisfyingly gory (though not as gory as the execution), the acting is pretty handy as well, there are some decent blokes in this movie. I had to turn my history brain off when they combined two battles in to one, but other than that its an entertaining couple of hours.
As with anything these days, it could have been a pretty good mini-series.
3.5 what's my names? out of 5 sharpened stakes

Anna
Luc Besson makes a movie about a Russian KGB assassin posing as a model in Paris. And you know what? It's actually pretty entertaining. It's gratuitously violent at times, the early scene in the Restaurant is fucking great, lots of mooks get murdered in increasingly funny ways.
The jumping forward and backward in time was okay at the start, becomes gimmicky in the middle, but pays off in the end.
There isn't much new here, but if you want to be entertained for 2 hours watching a good looking woman murder people, then this is the go
Yea, Anna is pretty good looking, if too skinny for my tastes. Turns out she is one of the Michael Klim aliens from Valerian.
4 useless bodyguards out of 5 photographers filled with regret
Note: This has a pretty ordinary rating on IMDB, so i checked why. Apparently lots of Russian users don't like the artistic license taken with technology of the time. Of all the dumb shit to get your tits in a tangle over watching a movie
-
@mariner4life Just checked the IMDB for this, this one seemed to sneak under the radar for a Luc Beeson hot young women fucking people up movie.
-
@mariner4life yeah I saw this too, thought I had put a review in here too, I agree with your summary.

I will add it to my list to watch on a slow rainy day.
I tried to watch 6 Underground on Saturday, but I'd had a huge Friday night. So after about 10 to 15 minutes I drifted off to sleep and every 20 minutes or so I'd wake up and watch a bit and then drift off again.
I swear every time I woke up there was an indistinguishable car chase going on.
Somehow I don't think I'll be trying to rewatch it.

@taniwharugby said in Re: Movie review thread...:
@Nepia pretty sure the car chase scene lasted about 20 mins at the start, so your timeline might be skewed
I thought it was an ok switch off your brain watch.
It was a big night.
Either way, I think it's off my list.

It had the hot blonde from inglorious bastards in it . That and Strike Back levels of mindless violence were the highlights of it .
