Coronavirus - Overall

@Bones Mrs Cato is all over this, despite her having had her fingers burned on various bits of fake news recently. I guess she is just desperate for some good news but I do wish she'd pause and think things through a bit more. No point in my giving my two cents worth though.

India are 512 for 9
Apparently they are going into 21 day lock down. If it takes off in India there will be carnage, Italy will look like a doddle
Our offshore call centre has closed down and that has absolutely smashed our IT Helpdesk and Facilities Management call centres.

Just got a whatsapp about this:
Self-report daily.
Help slow the outbreak.
Identify those at risk sooner.App designed in conjunction with King's etc.
Mrs M told me about it this morning but it wasn't working/app not available - it is now.
(EDIT) But so slow as to be useless. Guess we need to wait

@Catogrande yeah SIL is prone to just throwing stuff up on FB without thought - the other day put up that one that was going around about the "Care Pack" for those with respiratory issues that you can get from your GP - just call them and ask! Except it's completely fake and no doubt created huge headaches for them.

Just went into our local village to pick up a prescription. Stood behind a yellow line as doors were opened, bag put in a basket and doors closed. Everyone friendly.
Local Spar shop/Post Office - normally quite busy - was closed for a delivery and is struggling to survive. Got the impression that now people have panic bought and stocked up, they'll be making less small purchases.
Couple of older people were making their way to the shop and I guess the 250,000 volunteers who have already signed up will be helping these people out.
Village is mix of people and will rally round the shop I'm sure. Quite surreal when you get away from social media and venture into the new, changed world.

You get the impression, under the surface, he's a tough old coot like his Dad.

Here we go, Tokyo Governor on tv right now telling ppl not to go out or she’ll lock it down. I think it’s too late:
https://www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/en/news/20200325_45/
Sources linked to the Tokyo metropolitan government say more than 40 people tested positive to the new coronavirus on Wednesday.
This is the highest daily tally for Japan's capital.
The sources also say about 10 of them are related to a hospital in Taito Ward where a nurse and a patient were confirmed infected on the previous day.
Tokyo reported a record number of infections for three straight days through Wednesday. Sixteen were on Monday and 17 on Tuesday.

Possibly good news.
*Coronavirus strain on NHS likely to peak in three weeks' time, MPs told
Here are the main points from Prof Neil Ferguson’s evidence to the Commons science committee earlier. Ferguson’s views are important because he was the lead author on the Imperial College paper that persuaded the government to drastically escalate its social distancing strategy.*
Ferguson said that he and his colleagues were now “reasonably confident” that the NHS would be able to cope with the coronavirus epidemic. That was partly because the NHS had surged its capacity, and partly because of the suppression measures taken by the government, he said.

We have a winner in the "Coronavirus Cockwomble of the Week" competition...

@Victor-Meldrew Reminds me of this joke:

One man's "Yah, those rich bastards are taking a hit" is another 500 man's job lost
FIFY.
Corbyn will never get that the way to "right this wrong" is not to go after the one man. PMQ today he's still wanting on about how the rich businessman could never have been without the low paid cleaner in his office.

"Manor house born, rich multimillionaire twat with £2m house in North London and zero experience of running a business, demonstrates lack of understanding of how businesses and employees rely on each other"

I continue to be impressed by the UK response. Let's hope we can keep the death rates down as much as possible
UK coronavirus mass home testing to be made available 'within days' Test to be validated this week, then made available to healthcare workers and general public
"Thousands of 15-minute home tests for coronavirus will be delivered by Amazon to people self-isolating with symptoms or will go on sale on the high street within days, according to Public Health England (PHE), in a move that could restore many people’s lives to a semblance of pre-lockdown normality.
Prof Sharon Peacock, the director of the national infection service at PHE, told MPs that mass testing in the UK would be possible by next week."

@Victor-Meldrew that's just flippin amazing if they are distributed that quickly and give an accurate result. 🙏🏻

@R-L
What we have seen in the last few days has been a bit unbelievable, hasn't it?Lived here for 35+ years and worked all over Europe. Often frustrated me that the Brits never seem to understand how good they actually are - particularly in a crisis.
I hope they continue to prove my point...
