@pakman because their media department made a video to show people exactly what they shouldn't be doing? What's wrong with it?
The vehicles were well spaced. Those walking in the park were keeping their distance. That's NOT what the Government Guidelines are meant to stop.
If there was a full car park, queues to get in and bunched up walkers, THAT would be woryh making a video about.
So they should wait until it gets that way and then make a video? Or nip it in the bud? What should they focus on in the meantime?
This is what they don't want: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-51994504

I see the US is over 80,000 cases now, they will be the most infected country in next 24 hours. Whilst the virus originated In China I think the US were the ones who spread it far and wide. Will be interesting to see the death toll if they open up by Easter.
They were leaders in stopping flights and banning travel. I am not sure if your logic in accusing them of spreading it a far and wide. Sounds like Chinese communist party propaganda.

TBF, Trump was way ahead of Europe and other countries. I recall him being accused of racism in Jan (IIRC) when he banned flights from China and other infected areas.
-
@Baron-Silas-Greenback Pretty simple really, the amount of cases they have would suggest the virus started spreading there early. Americans are wealthy and travel a lot. Most of the cases in Australia were from American tourists. America took ages to start testing which meant the world was not aware of the threat American tourists posed.

@Victor-Meldrew He should have banned his own citizens from traveling to be fair, the Chinese had their shit on lock down by that point.

I'm no fan of the man, but why just criticize Trump?
It's looking increasingly possible, even likely, that the key infection point outside of Asia was a ski bar in Austria in mid-January and the authorities covered it up.

What an age we live in.
Communications minister Paul Fletcher may have successfully convinced the likes of Google and Netflix to limit the impact of their high definition streams on the Australian network but now he may face a new challenge: swelling demand for one of the world's top adult sites in the light of its new worldwide freemium promotion and a captive home-bound audience.

Looking at the numbers, it's patently obvious to me that the growth is in no small measure due to escalation in testing. On the 18th they had 7,783 confirmed cases, a week later 65,778. They're simply identifying more accurately who already has it.

No Austrians in that bar? They didn't have a confirmed case until 25th of February.

@booboo Got myself a 10 pack from Woolies Metro this morning. Rather than do my morning walk and then shop I reversed it and wandered in at 8am, did some shopping, no TP, so I just asked one if the workers what's the best time ... he said now and went and got the trolley. All of the other 8 shoppers made a beeline for it as soon as he brought it out.
Would still like to get some Coles So Soft as in your pic, but beggars can't really be choosers.

March 24th data
1.4% positive of those tested, which actually doesn't mean anything, just Australians are getting tested...
And with only 12 deaths so far, now is a good time to reflect on how many Australians die on a daily basis and the economic damage we're wreaking on this. All because NSW Health and Border Force let sick people off a cruise ship and Italy.

Now thought possible that first British victim visited the bar in Ischgl in Jan 15-19 and then infected his wife & kids. One of his friends was American and he was also ill. Austrian Plod are investigating a cover-up by local health officials.
Oxford University study also indicates Coronavirus reached the UK no later than mid-Jan which may back this up.

What the US got wrong - along with so many other countries, was selectively isolating who to ban. It made no sense to me then, and still doesn't, to ban flights from the Schengen countries and still allow flights from the UK and travel across from Canada. I get Western Europe was the target but it was too easy to circumvent the ban. As I also said then; it was already too late - the US numbers pre the ban showed they had lost control. It started the economic melt down for zero effect.
Better to have gone hard, but US seems to have been confused about what approach to take. Not helped (as with Oz) by their federal system.
NZ hasn't got everything right by a long way, but at least, in the main, the messaging has been very clear and has therefore gained public acceptance.

it's 13 now, and aren't all 70+ with pre-existing medical conditions? and the vast majority got off a cruise ship?
-
@antipodean I think it more reflects how rampant the virus was in US before they actually starting testing properly. You cannot have 80,000 positives without the virus having been active for some time. I suspect the US was one of the first countries outside China to start spreading, its the only way you can have such big numbers and such a high detect rate.

It's easy to look at the overall stats and wonder what the big deal is, but the biggest concern all along has been the ability of the health system to handle the increased load, especially going into winter. If we hit capacity, especially when it comes to ICU beds, then it would be an absolute disaster not just for people with Coronavirus but for anyone that needs urgent hospitalisation.
Increased numbers of hospital staff also falling ill is another big concern. This virus is far more contagious than the common Flu.
