@Kirwan @JC both your posts are kinda linked given the current environment.
I can certainly see this ending with the perpetrator being shot, probably dead (deservedly so) but I expect this will ignite some section of society to complain about our police response claiming they went out with the sole intention of killing him rather than apprehending for prison...
And they can go fuck themselves.
Like I said on the other thread, policing is a hard and dangerous job. Those that complain about stuff like that should walk a mile in their shoes.

The shooters only have themselves to blame if they are killed now

@Kirwan I dont disagree, but you know it will happen.
Yep, you are absolutely right.

Two people are being questioned by police after an officer was killed and another was injured in a shooting in Auckland.
-
@taniwharugby they don't appear to be the shooters
-
@taniwharugby I read a few articles on NZH and stuff. My impression was they weren't. So if they are at large I would expect the police to say so. Very ambiguous
-
@canefan yeah I guess it is an ongoing investigation, and you'd have thought if they were at large still the public should know? Or maybe they have 1 of the people from the car which is why info is sketchy right now too?
From Newshub:

Police speaking to two 'people of interest' after west Auckland shooting

Police are speaking to two people of interest after an officer was killed in a shooting in west Auckland on Friday morning.
In a press conference, Police Commissioner Andrew Coster said police have found a firearm and are speaking to two 'people of interest'.
Footage captured by Newshub earlier shows the AOS surrounding a house on Rena Pl in West Harbour, a suburb adjacent to Massey.
A Newshub camera crew captured video footage of several AOS officers with weapons drawn and bulletproof vests on in the driveway of the property.
One officer can be seen with a police dog on a leash, while another shelters behind a riot shield.
The footage also shows one person being handcuffed near the property - however, moments later, police let him go.

No one should go to work and not expect to make it home safely.
I guess we are lucky at least these are so rare, first instance since 2009 accoutring to the media.I'm pleasantly surprised by that stat. It feels more regular.
Yeah it is a reassuring stat but then any lose is terrible. I’d imagine other parts of the world it’s a daily occurrence.
Just the 33rd in NZ. Sadly for my family, as a few ferners are aware, one of those was my Grandad.
Shit like this always makes my Mum in particular pretty sad so I best give her a bell. Never nice to see her fathers name on the news.
No words to describe the piece of human filth who committed this latest offence so I won’t even bother trying.
-
Yesterday I heard of this incident in Ireland, hadn't heard about the NZ one..
I think this stuff is happening a lot anyway and we are just hearing about it more at the moment as there is a focus on policing. So sad though. Such a tough job.

Police investigating the fatal shooting of a Police officer in Massey have charged a man with Murder.
A 24-year-old man has been arrested and charged with multiple serious offences including Murder, Attempted Murder and Dangerous Driving Causing Injury.
He will be appearing in the Waitakere District Court tomorrow.
The investigation into this incident is ongoing and Police are not able to rule out the possibility of further persons being charged.
Our thoughts are with the family of the slain Police officer and we are continuing to ensure they are provided with all possible support.
The other injured Police officer and member of public remain in hospital in a serious but stable condition and we are also supporting them and their families.
Police will not be in a position to confirm the identity of the Police officer until tomorrow at the earliest.

Well they’ve charged a 24 year old man with murder. No other details, but more charges are apparently not ruled out. Let him rot.
