Lockdown/Covid Check In

Seriously. I love Melbourne but not because of its climate.
Yeah I like it too. Great place, good food, always something happening sports wise, art galleries, shows. Very cosmopolitan.
As for this:

Fucking shit climate. I was at a Boxing Day test a few years back and it was fucking freezing. Two hours later it was in the mid 30's.
Yep. You either have an airmass from Antartica (or at least the Southern Ocean) or one from a massive desert under a baking sun. A northely is sweltering, a southerly bloody freezing and not much in between.

@Bones I'm off to watch some club footy today (guy I have coached with last 3 years is coming out of retirement) was gonna to go watch some of the boys from the team I have coached the last 8 seasons play for the first time when I havent been coaching them, but games are away and way-away...next week.
-
God I'm half considering going back and playing this year
-
@mariner4life I think about it every year, and every club game I watch I think man I reckon I could still do this...then I look in the mirror and see this old fluffybunny looking back at me.
-
Just reserve grade mate nothing serious
-
@mariner4life yep it's when I watch the prems I think I could play reserves, cos some of the kids playing prems look huge haha...not to mention not being able to cut it in the prems
I'll stick to my golden oldies
-
turned up at the end of the reserves game today and got asked by a couple of guys if I want to play next week...sadly more an indictment of numbers than requiring my unique skillset!
Apparently good numbers at trainings pre-lockdown, but post lockdown numbers were down.
-
Travelling NZ, interesting how many places remain closed. In Franz Joseph right now and the hot pools are closed still along with all but one of the Glacier tour companies. Apparently anything controlled by Ngai Tahu remains shut (Inc Shotover Jet in QT)
Very disappointing, has a big follow-on effect for motels, restaurants etc.

One of our core Presidents players has come back to senior rugby this year, when he last played we were a top side in the Waikato with Richard Kahui a notable player he played alongside. He is 39 this year, a great club man, his business is a big sponsor this year.

I'm out!
Yes it's an hour up the road. And I've been here for work twice in the last fortnight.
But I've got an apartment in Port Douglas until Monday. Right in the middle of town. Restaurants. Pubs. Occasional family stuff.
-
@mariner4life living the dream! Enjoy the freedom

Yes!
WE just got confirmation that the campsite we booked for next weekend is ALL GO. Fingers crossed the weather allows it to be decent, but I am relying on UK summer weather here, so anything is possible ...
Best times of my life growing up were camping at Matauri Bay. Not so sure I'm so into it myself ( and Mrs MR is in for a hell of a reality check after living a four-seasons life), but if they kids enjoy it half as much as I did, it'll be fully worthwhile.
-
Camping is awesome. Drive 2-5 hours somewhere. Unpack. Put up tent. Cook. Do dishes. Clean. Try to make kids sleep. Drink yourself silly. Have terrible uncomfortable sleep. Wake up sweating in Aussie sun. Wonder what to do all day. Repeat above from "Cook" down until final morning then pack away tent. Drive home
Once home, book holiday with with proper roof and aircon and bed and cooker.
A few months later, cancel booking and book camping again.
-
Looove camping. Cape opens up this weekend so I'm going bush when the roads dry.
-
If all goes according to plan, I'll be riding up to do the three eastern corners (Cameron, Haddon and Poeppel) in ~six weeks.
-
as I have mentioned before, I have alot to do with my elderly neighbour, who doesnt have a great deal of contact with his family.
I think Lockdown has impacted him hugely.
Prior to lockdown, he was playing golf weekly, had come back form a couple of weeks on his yacht by himself, was planning on going to his home in Brisbane for the NZ winter, now, he seems quite frail (for him) isnt that keen to play golf.
When I was up having a few beers tonight he was saying how this week was the first time in his life he has wondered how much longer her can go on living by himself, not that he craves the social aspect, but he finds things he did with ease 6 months ago, he struggles with.
Tough watching someone you care about deteriorate like that.

Sounds like you are living next to my Dad. He struggled with it as well. Hasn't been back to golf, and is wondering where he is going to live when he can't manage anymore. He has become quite reclusive and depressed.
Throw in some skin cancer and having half his ear cut off I can see why.
