"complete exemption from traditional publisher liability in exchange for providing a forum free of political censorship"
Again - this statement is a lie
Why listen to a someone that is so brazenly lying about the current law? Why would you believe someone who is lying?

What is really laughable is people concerned about Biden when Trump struggles to form sentences and apparently can't even make it obvious when he is being sarcastic like most people can. Not a good trait for a statesman. You kind of want people to know whether to take your comments at face value or not.
He looks significantly more lucid than Biden though. Not that it says much
I'll agree to disagree. Biden can at least hold a train of thought for more than 10 seconds. He might speak slowly and have to wait for the words to catch up with the brain but Trump doesn't wait for the brain to catch up with the words.
Pretty sad state of affairs that the choice for the US is between two old blokes yelling at each other from their porches.
I find them both really difficult to listen to. Biden has better sentence structure but just says completely random shit and slurs his words at times. Trump just rambles, almost like he's trying to fill in space with words even if it makes no sense whatsoever.

Do you believe there is an issue that needs to be addressed with the likes of facebook etc.
No one cares about smaller sites but what about the larger sites. Where election outcomes can be decided etc. Should be aim to allow all viewpoints to be expressed or just ones that fit with the elite owners (that may be foreign) of these sites. Or advertisersAnd regarding newspapers. My understanding is that even here papers are supposed to allow opposing viewpoints in the comments section. That these larger sites are closing down now.

I've stated my opinion on the problem with social media companies many times
One main difference is I don't have faith in a politician who is clearly lying about the current law.
The good thing is I suspect Hawley is also lying about his proposed solution. To me it seems like a bit of political theatre that he knows has no ability to pass. He gets to excite some gullible political partisans who are poorly informed but effectively he is doing nothing

It’s even more broad than that, without 230 the internet as we know it would not exist. The social media giants have their issues, but this is not about that.
Repealing that law would end the ability to post any content open to comments. Everywhere.
Post an article and someone posts something unlawful, like defamation or hate speech, as a comment to it and the original author would be liable.
So no more forums, Twitter, blog or news comments, etc etc
Its an important law.

I don’t get this whole “election interference “ rubbish.
AFAIK Twitter is a private organisation that has a right to allow or disallow whoever they like. They certainly don’t have to allow themselves to be an advertising or promotional tool for everyone.
If they favour one side then it becomes obvious and consumers get to choose
whether to use their product.Don't have a problem with that.
But Twitter should have the honesty and integrity to spell out clearly how its views and political partiality impact on users and how it censors it's platform. We all know where Fox News & CNN stand, why not Twitter?
If they favour one side then it becomes obvious and consumers get to choose
whether to use their product.Again, no problem with that. But let's have an anti-trust investigation into Twitter's virtual monopoly of micro-blogging media to ensure the public do have a choice.
Is micro-blogging a right now? They only have a monopoly because users don’t want to change.
Pretty much the standard defence for every market monopoly from Standard Oil to Microsoft. If it were true, then no-one would oppose an anti-trust investigation.
I’m being silly here I know but some of the very people that are so adamant about their “rights” on things like not wearing masks are also first in the queue to complain about a business having rights as well.
Really don't see the connection or equivalence between individual & consumer rights/liberties and whether a business has a right to run a monopoly.
Yeah, Twitter should have a written policy around what is acceptable on their platform (oh they already do?).
Not quite the point I was making. The Daily Mail & Guardian also have written policy. Doesn't make them fair and balanced disseminators of news though, but at least they are honest about it and don't have an effective monopoly.
Yoel Roth - head of Twitters fact-checking department - has tweeted that Trump's a Nazi and compared his advisers to Goebbels. At least he's being honest I guess.

I actually think the far left defund the police, statue destruction, looting, burning of flags, cancel culture, problems with the BLM movement etc has handed Trump a potentially persuasive message to run on against Biden.
He will attempt to position himself as the defender of America and Biden as passive on these issues. While Biden is actually centrist, Trump will attempt to convince the public that Biden is too old, passive and dottery to know what the fuck is going on with these SJW groups. He will use the fear that these groups will take over if he is not re-elected.
Not saying the message is true, just that I think this will be the campaign's central message. And it might explain why the National Guard was not federalized to quell the rioting. Let the Dem Governors fail to contain it and try to pin it on them.

That's possibly Trump's best strategy but it may not stop Biden winning
My guess is voters will decide on who they think is the lesser buffoon & serial incompetent - Trump or Biden.

That's a bleak assessment of the conundrum for US voters who aren't part of Trump's hardcore support. Spot on though

That's exactly where we went in his Mt Rushmore speech. First one I have listened to the entirety of in a few months now. A terrific speech, lays out exactly what you say, gives the listeners a quick history lesson on the men whose faces are carved into that mountain and gives the voters a simple choice.
Have to say though as good as the speech was he is showing signs of fatigue, no where near the energy of a few months back, a few word slurs (nothing dramatic, but definitely noticeable). I'll need to find a recent similar length Biden talk to compare to see if maybe his gaffs are overblown.

Looking from afar and only thru the media prism, you can't help but get the impression that US politics is currently defined by how much hate and scorn for Trump you can espouse. Not healthy.

I wonder if push comes to shove Donny will try and get people to remember that the Democrats are for open borders and defunding the police and appeasing China.

I've said it before, if Trump loses it will be less about Biden and more about how much the people despise him and want him out

Its not spot on. Its a nonsense assessment on Trump. For those who can't see the bigger picture. And maybe rely too much on the fake news media.

This is the kind of strategy I think Republicans and Trump will follow.
Link Democrats to this kind of behavior.
This is an ad from the Senate Majority LeaderGood video. The crazy (and dangerous) Democrats have gifted the Republicans so much to use though. They will surely highlight the nursing home disgrace. This is scary. Yet 5 democrat governors did it.
Hers a part from Trumps (powerful) speech yesterday
In our schools, our newsrooms, even our corporate boardrooms, there is a new far-left fascism that demands absolute allegiance. If you do not speak its language, perform its rituals, recite its mantras, and follow its commandments, then you will be censored, banished, blacklisted, persecuted, and punished. It’s not going to happen to us. (Applause.)
Make no mistake: this left-wing cultural revolution is designed to overthrow the American Revolution. In so doing, they would destroy the very civilization that rescued billions from poverty, disease, violence, and hunger, and that lifted humanity to new heights of achievement, discovery, and progress.
To make this possible, they are determined to tear down every statue, symbol, and memory of our national heritage.

Read it in Obama's voice and see if the content holds up.
If you have the time and inclination, this interview articulates that the major problem in America isn't trump.
It's way worse than him.

@Duluth that's a lot to draw on from a 3 letter word. Given the destruction and lawlessness that's dominated the landscape in the last month, it's not unreasonable to call these escalations and observations "new".
But that's quibbling because we're really referencing the speechwriter, not actually Donald.

Judging on his actions over the last few years. Mis diagnosing the problem is serious if you want to actually fix things
But you are correct, speeches are not important actions are. He hasn't done shit and his supporters keep giving him a pass.
