Not that much baggage though and given the referenda this time she could be well placed (pro life choice, currently holds drug reform portfolio).
She's literally had the drug reform portfolio for two weeks.
Two weeks is a long time in politics.
It’s on her CV

He did look all at sea though almost from Day 1. Job was clearly much harder than he expected it to be. Corporate world clearly wasn't preparation for the death stare politicking no matter what Winnie says
I have a half baked theory that 2020 has taken a lot more of out of some people than they realise, and when they go to step up a few gears all of a sudden they can't quite do it the way that they once would have. Todd isn't the only one I've seen along those (very broad) lines.
Wouldn't surprise me at all.
Being in the full glare of the political spotlight probably isn't a good place for most people. There are many completely heinous things I'd rather do than be there!
I recall Nick Smith got appointed as Deputy leader after Brash rolled English, and almost immediately got sent off on stress leave and replaced shortly after.

It’s Crusher
Funny how she has spent the last few years denying any aspirations for the leadership yet .....
Including in her book? But who could have foreseen Muller committing hari kari? She is too savvy to stick her neck out unless she is sure of support. I expect either Adams, Kay or Collins, probably in that order

No it’s real. Crusher is it.

Oh wow. I think she is a good choice. Has been one of the best opposition MPs, has polished her persona so it is less abrasive than before. Seems to be more popular with the national faithful than her MPs. But they need to fall in and pull together because all their jobs are on the line. I'd pick Adams. At least when the jibes about minorities come about they can say they are led by 2 women, not just 1

She's probably about the only credible choice at this point - her or maybe Mitchell.
I'm slightly surprised that she didn't demur at this point - in favour of picking up the pieces later - but, you can never be sure the chance will come again, and maybe she has a plan for overcoming the damage wrought.

Gerry confirmed as deputy.
Wouldn't be my choice. Doesn't really scream fresh does he?
Not really - safe pair of hands I think.

I personally think it's too late for safe. In the current environment image is everything and stuffy white guy isn't gonna resonate with the voters
-
So the Nats are copying Labour’s election strategies? Cunliff, Little, Taxinda lose the vote, add Winston = win!
Does Collins get on better with the old crook? They seem cut from the same cloth.
Hope Muller is ok, would be doubly bad news to get bad health news and lose your dream job.

We aren’t American, we can avoid looking at everything through the myopic view of race.
Anyway, who cares who is deputy, we have the correct gender for the woke brigade as leader.

I just think Adams is smart enough. He probably won't sat much anyway. And what's wrong with a little more woke for those who care?

Matters less for the deputy, especially since the leader is a female - the deputy doesn't seem to get judged the same way.
