@canefan so many selfish self entitled fluffybunnies about these days...the world is stopping me from doing what I want.
You'd think with whats going on in the world, particularly Aussie now being so close, people would start to take notice and become a bit concerned, but no, lets whinge about not being able to take that trip to see family, plenty of others in the same boat fluffybunny, wind yer neck in

@canefan mmm
Sure her reasons for wanting to travel are flimsy, but there are always shades of grey.
Take me for example!
I'm going to fly back to Sydney on 29 Aug with my 3 kids (wife is currently in hotel quarantine in Sydney). They just need to get their lives back on track.
We booked ahead of the booking deadline (as soon as the cost was announced) and are hoping to not pay hotel costs in Oz given that, although Air NZ cancelling our original flights might mean we have to fight for that. We will see.
Once in OZ, there is a high likelihood that my mum will pass within 1-2 months of arrival. If I want to come back and be there for final days or the funeral, I'll have to fight to not pay NZ quarantine costs, along with fighting to get quarantine exemptions to even see her or attend the funeral.
Post the funeral, I'll be heading home to Australia. I imagine I'll also need to fight to not pay the costs of hotel quarantine at that end.
So when you add it up, I'm a kiwi bloke, living in Oz, that got stuck in NZ after visiting a sick relative. To get my kids home, be around for my mothers death/funeral, then return home, could wind up costing around $10k in hotel stays, with the flights to be loaded on top.
I'm not passing judgement on what's right or wrong in respect of charging for this. But don't be under any illusion that this isn't fucking with people's lives right now!

No changes to residents being automatically granted entry into NZ, same as citizens - presumably the Warriors above were here on work visas.
From the Facebook post above, Winston advised overseas NZers to shelter in place if they didn't get back home in time.
However, it looks like charges will be limited to people who leave and come back after a specific date, not everyone.

New Zealand not fucking about
Very impressed with its immigration policy
Magnified by its virtual eradication of Covid
Honestly, are you saying you are impressed with this? Why?
People who live in New Zealand, should have the same returning rights as NZ Citizens. Anything else is pretty shocking.
I've not lived in NZ for exactly 20 years from next week. How on earth could I have the right to go there now and this bloke who lives, breathes, pays tax and has setup his life in NZ be banned?

It's a fucking disgrace. I assume the Phoenix players will be in the same boat unless they fix this

I'm impressed with the Kiwi policy overall on Covid
Key section in the story is this:
"But the club has been told by the New Zealand Government that neither player will be allowed to return to Auckland once the NRL season is over, because of coronavirus restrictions which block non New Zealand citizens from entering the country".
This is the fault of the Warriors They should have made sure everything was meticulously checked before the squad left NZ Even more so in the midst of a global pandemic Extraordinary times call for extraordinary measures
Now is not the time for sentimentality Lads will stay in Oz until further notice

So you think it's fair that I can come in, but these players can't?
I'm not sure that equates to be being impressed with the NZ Covid reaction. Which I think we almost all are.

These guys are not NZ citizens. they just happen to be employed here. I think the govt has to hold firm or else open the door to thousands of other non NZ citizens who also have worked here, but are currently overseas.
@MajorRage If you have dual citizenship then NZ could strip you of yr Kiwi citizenship. Plenty of countries make you give up your birth rights if you take on their citizenship. However we have chosen not to do this so it would require an Act of Parliament and the govt's a bit busy right now. As a NZ citizen international law says we have to let you in.
As the two Warriors are essentially visitors - we don't. Tough on them. Yeah but someone fucked up in the back office. Not the govt's issue. they can't be seen to make exceptions for a couple of footy players. You can't argue League is an essential industry. Maybe if the Warriors were actually any good but - yeah nah.
-
Come on.
If Americas Cup, Weta, and potentially South African and Argentine rugby teams (wont happen IMO) can be exempted ... clear case for it here.
Sentimentality or pragmatism? Bit of both.
If Bledisloe games were to happen in Australia, Reece cant go? (I'd be OKish with that ... not a fan of all WR eligibility rules .... ) although would assume he'd have PR status at least by now, just speculating an extreme example .

yeah is odd alright.
Have to think if they want to come back, pay for isolation, it is same as above?
I know they need to draw thier line in the sand somewhere, but...

I think it will get done once the bureaucrats get their fingers out of their asses. Phoenix overseas players will need to come back too. A pretty odd example to plant your flag on and say no exceptions for me

The problem was that the Warriors/George and NRL were so concerned about getting the Warriors to Aust that they didn't look at the implications for returning under the Covid-19 border restrictions. It's not just these 2 players, some of the Warriors' Aussie players are in the same situation. Common sense will prevail in the end.
-
@Bovidae I expect the media will paint it that sports stars getting preferential treatment, despite the fact when you look at it, it should never really have been an issue.
But yeah the Warriors need to take this one.
I see the Moscow Circus had thier first show in Whangarei last night, unsure when they arrived in NZ, but have to assume it has been in the last month or so, so guess they had to pay to stay in isolation at some point.

Can someone help. Perhaps @Snowy if you're still connected with AirNZ internally.
Are international passengers on same flights as domestic passengers when they are moved to quarantine facilities throughout the country (Rotorua, ChCh etc)
I don't know mate. I do know people there but not many of them are working.
I suspect that they do use the same flights) but they are doing distancing still, I think, and sterilising after every sector.
Wasn't the medical consensus that you needed to be in close contact with someone for around 2 hours to contract the disease? Or was that all bullshit to make us all feel better? If true it makes most domestic flights pretty safe. -
