Coronavirus - New Zealand

@taniwharugby agree about the risk but think it's pretty rough to say they've been sitting on their hands - in fact I'd imagine any number of folks involved in trying to get the system as watertight as possible would want to send you to Snowy's basement for that kind of call.
Surely there is a grey area where Govt and everyone involved is held to account alongside an understanding this is an unprecedented situation and no perfect approach has shown itself, or that anything close to perfect means locking us down fully. Which would in turn open up new avenues of criticism and conspiracy theories and so on.

@Snowy yeah I hear you on that front - it does feel open ended and probably will continue to do so until some kind of vaccine is available. I suspect quite a few people will be shy on travelling if shit continues to spin out overseas - and even if you are heading for a 'safe' country the whole travel side of it is scary.
I wouldn't be getting in a tube full of people to go to somewhere on a disease infected planet with them either, but I don't see where it ends.
We now have local lock downs and police blockades. That's not going to work either. We have to become a completely free covid free zone and stop people coming in, or give up and let it happen.
I can't see middle ground.
How much faith does anyone have in a vaccine soon? Will it work if / when the virus evolves? Do we just do this whole thing again if that happens?

You silly fluffybunnies realise this is worse pretty much everywhere else right?
Yes. That is why we don't want to go there, you silly fluffybunny and take one of two tracks.

@JK by "we" who do you mean? Cindy obviously knew ahead of 4:00 p.m. There was a positive test ahead of then.
I (and others) had an event to be attended by Cindy scheduled for Friday and it was cancelled by lunchtime on Tues

I think middle ground is a bit like what we have in Sydney at the moment. 5-20 cases a day, so it's still around. But pubs and restaurants are open, you can go to the footy, see friends etc. Just a few restrictions to numbers, no big weddings, parties etc. It's close to 'normal' if not quite there.
-
@Paekakboyz yea probably over stating the apparent inaction but when people like Helen Clarke have been calling for 'exit strategies' and nothing is produced (I know alot more going on behind the scenes, but as general public should at least be provided a big picture type view)
Ive heard L4 for Auckland, L3 rest...people in medical world

@dogmeat said in Coronavirus - New Zealand:
Anyways just to add to the paranoia I have heard from a number of authoritative sources today - CEO of top 50 company, Senior Clinician at a leading hospital, Partner at a top law firm that we are moving to Lvl 4 for four weeks. Thing is I don't think they have the good oil. I simply feel they are making the same educated guess as me. But when "people in the know" start saying these things it gives what is effectively not even a rumour credibility. Then we do go to Level 4 everyone goes a-ha. But all that's happened is the educated guess was right - which in probability it should be more often than not.
Thats also consistent with the messaging I've been getting from DHB contacts.

Community transmission? I haven't been watching SYD. Are they all "new cases" from overseas?
Honestly, having to barricade customers from my business because of 4 people that went in the opposite direction to where I am is just daft.

Depends on how long you keep getting sent back to your room.

Whilst thankful that on a personal level that me, the mrs, the folks ( retired obviously ) ex wife, her hubby and most close mates will be fine there are also others I know well that will be well and truly FUCKED if the country has another lockdown even for a couple of weeks.
For their sake I'm hoping for the best but shit a brick, it's not good.

Nope, tend to be a few overseas cases each day but the majority are locally acquired. We have a number of 'clusters', but our contact tracers seem to be keeping things relatively stable for now.

I got takeaway gourmet burgers in Warkworth last night. Bloody delicious. I don't want those places to shutdown again.
The covid boundary for AKL should also have been the Puhoi tunnels. Just because we are "super " city, it wasn't in Wellsford, Warkworth, Te Hana. All small towns that need the financial support.

-
@barbarian I guess that would be known cases, but I don't know how you can arrange low rates with any level of social mingling (soooo tempted)? genuine question on how that is working? I presume some pretty decent social distancing etc?
Snap - you'd already answered that

They doing electronic tracing? Have ordered a QR code for business as they are compulsory next week.

@taniwharugby so youโre in lockdown too? North Auckland ๐
Iโm here all week (because I canโt leave my house here in Melbourne)

They would be absolutely crazy to go back to level 4, let alone for a month. I really hope those rumors are just dickheads reveling in giving people a worst case scenario story instead of actual oil from inside the government.
