Lockdown/Covid Check In
-
@JC still fed up of covidtimes here but who isn't ay?! Birmingham and Solihull seems to be no different, I suspect people are still having people around despite the local rules on no household visitors. It's all pointless anyway I fully expect the whole country will be in some sort of lockdown again, rumours seem to be October half term but that seems like it's too far away, I fear the deaths will soon sky rocket.
Well in my news... My little girl started primary school she absolutely loves it, running the place already. Made me very emosh!! Happy she's happy though. Its amazing in two weeks how much she seems to have grown up!
Health wise, I've got an ENT referral for a boney growth in my throat.... Yeah yeah can imagine the jokes! GP really doesn't think its anything scary but needs checking explains the tonsil flare ups I'd been having throughout the year and it's just a bit of an inconvenience really! I'll be grand funnily not worried about that at all.
Still got man issues! Hit and miss.
I feel like I'm waiting for life to begin again.... Obviously I'm happy we are all relatively healthy and safe, but you know it's all a bit boring...
Anyway, has anyone on the fern actually had covid yet???

@Catogrande Orpington is also a breed of chicken, we have a few of them and they are fat and poor at their core role of producing eggs

This is exactly what happened to me when I moved to Orpington.

Orpington was in the news the other day about an attempted kidnapping....
-
life returning to some sort of normal here in Sydney. Kids getting back into activities, school underway. I'm basically a chauffeur for them.
Not looking likely that I'll return to work til Jan, so I guess I should get off my ass and get fit or something

i can only imagine. We’ve got it pretty easy here, no real effects at all day-to-day, but it still feels like waiting for the other shoe to drop. What’s going on in the UK seems like slow torture.
Good luck with the throat. The scariest part is probably going into a hospital during a plague!

Exactly! But can't forget I'm fortunate to be healthy during all this, shouldn't really moan

waiting for the other shoe to drop
I became curious of this saying. Interestingly topical example used...
wait for the other shoe to drop Await a seemingly inevitable event, as in Now that she has a good enough job to leave her husband, we're just waiting for the other shoe to drop. This expression alludes to a person awakened by a neighbor who loudly dropped one shoe on the floor and is waiting for the second shoe to be dropped. [Early 1900s]

The Orpington is indeed a breed of chicken with the Buff variety being the most well known. Whilst now primarily a show bird they were actually dual purpose meat/egg birds so perhaps you have some of the meatier ones. Try showing them and if they win fuck all then eat them. Even if they taste like shit it might encourage the others to lay?
You’re welcome.
-
@Catogrande yeah our chickens are there to lay eggs, Missus wont eat them...but they are big fatties, so assume they would be good eaters...
I had to dispatch 2 of the rescue hens we got prior to lockdown last weekend.

Seems you don’t quite grasp the concept of “rescue” 😁
-
@Catogrande haha, well given 7 of my 12 chickens are freeloaders ...but the rescue ones typically you lose half of them within a few weeks, so the fact 4 of 6 are still alive after getting them in late march is pretty good
-
@taniwharugby
I’m now imagining you in a cape and mask, going out at night vigilante style to rescue domestic fowl. -

ahh, another quality Fern thread diversion . Well played everyone.
Is it? Chicken Lives Matter snd they are going through this too.
I think you’re on to something here. To the eyes of the world @taniwharugby is just doing a difficult job as best he can. But there is a groundswell (originating here) that would see him discredited and defunded.

After rescuing kittens, chickens are my passion.
They are characters that’s for sure. We allow ours to roam free out the front from time to time. It means if the front door is open they will help themselves and explore the house..
We have 4, all great layers at the moment
