more likely that with a 3% swing, the Greens don't make it back.
we can only hope!
not going to happen - it'll be a Labour led government of some form...you can get $16 on National leading the next government at Betfair for the tragic optimists amongst us
-
@nzzp I read in an article that some National voters may vote strategically for Labour in the hope that the Greens dont get in...I wonder where this secret society is that collude in these scenarios to ensure the right numbers get over the line

Hopefully they are the ones polling in big numbers for labour at the moment only to switch on election day!

Extra funding for Emergency Dental...sweet, more extractions and anti-biotics? Ambulance at the bottom of the cliff stuff!

@taniwharugby The problem for any sitting government when they roll out announcements like this is that they always open themselves up to the question: it's a good idea, so why haven't you done it already?

Assume that was rhetorical, but will answer anyway - because we weren't having an election and want to buy some votes.
The fact that we can't afford it seems to be irrelevant.

@dogmeat Actually as excuses go that one isn't bad. Winston likely only allows money to be used to buy voted for NZF, not Labour. That's principles, that is.
What a pointless exercise the PGF turned out to be, act like Santa Claus with a huge sack of money and buy zero support.

Bloody good news actually, voters in NZ aren't bought with overt shows of cash. Pork barrel politics not so great... needs to be a bit more subtle I suspect. Gold cards, interest free student loans, tax cuts, that sort of thing

Needs broader appeal than specific regional projects at least.
Welfare reform has the same issue - bring in social insurance and everyone can see what their money is going towards. Keep the criteria tough and most people don't qualify, so they have no vested interest in adequate levels.

Paddy is so much better than Campbell it's not even funny. Why the hell did they get fucking Campbell for the first debate?

@pakman I wonder if they've relaxed requirements at all?
Part is probably deterioration in China:US relations, then there's UK courses being shorter than those offered in US, and UK (cunningly) reopening a post-study work programme for Chinese graduates.
China:Oz relations may explain reluctance to head there.

What surprised me most was that Collins is actually quite a laugh. Jacinda may be a nice person but she's not much fun. Very earnest.
Collins did a regular segment on the am show for quite a while. She was very funny on that

Warning, contains scenes of violence that may offend some viewers.
Crusher lived up to her billing. Gower also very good. Jacinda very sharp on Covid but floundering on gritty issues.
