@taniwharugby I wonder what the timetable for travel bubbles is? Cook Islands sounds like it will be first.
Niue is making noises as well.

I've been using the app since it was released, and once it became obvious that not all of my family were, have started including them in my notes when they are with me.
Still, the worker seems to have done a reasonable job in this instance, so will probably be a blip.... Hopefully...

I expect it will be earlier than that now Australia has recorded a donut day (no community transmission). States run by parochial retards / politicians too close to election may be excluded (but that should be negated in QLD now to some extent.

I'm being conservative, as I suspect the government will be

Does anyone know if I'm able to book a voucher in an MIQ facility during the Christmas/New Year period, not before?
I'm not travelling from overseas or anything like that - I just don't want to spend Christmas with my family.
Gold.
The last time we had a "family" christmas I didn't speak to one of my sisters for two years afterwards and my wife ran away to our bach. We haven't had one since (which is great). -

Nearly 4 years. It's great. I still cook a Christmas dinner (but don't have to do it for 20 people) and wife and I start the day with champagne and enjoy each others "company" all day.
We still see all of the family - just not all at once on one day.

@Snowy my excuse is that they're all 7 hours drive away. In previous years, I had an extra excuses as I did some contract work as a side hustle that was busy over that summer holiday period but that went when Covid turned up. Now I'm waiting for the questions about Christmas plans to start up again and I'm going to have to hunt out some excuses.

You could try a positive covid test?

(but no need to elaborate, the mystery is fine as it is)

Luck gonna run out at some point.
Such outbreaks shouldn't be happening in the first place, he said.
"[It's] our seventh border failure in about three months.
"This is obviously a pattern here, and I think five of them were staff working in those facilities. Really none of those people should be getting infected at this stage, and so I think we need a systematic way of reducing that risk.
"When that happens, we have to say that's a systems failure, or it's a failure of infection control.
"We need to firstly control the outbreak, and secondly work out what went wrong so we can prevent it happening again."
then there was this as well...
-
@taniwharugby the guy from Otago has been going hard on viewing these as system failures, which is true to a degree. I've heard him speak a few times and he's really pushing for a massive upgrade in how we manage it all. As in building new Q premises in non-urban areas (inc military bases) and stuff like that. His point that hotels are not intended as quarantine facilities is a big one for me - makes it sound that no matter how good the practice there is always environmental risk that is hard (impossible?) to mitigate. But I'm not sure if 'we' are willing to pay for the kinds of facilities he thinks we need...
I did agree with paying staff more in line with greater responsibility and testing/protocol requirements. -

Or capable.
Sounds like Kiwibuild.
