interesting point, as there had been talk of a 'Covid-Passport' to allow travel.
Plenty of those healthworkers and essential workers being immunised now, are unlikely to travel, are they going to be able to marry the data or will it be a case of get a note from your Dr?

From 2 different friends, one in local gov, the other in Uni ops
"We got the preparation talk this morning. View is that while no community cases now it is "likely" the new strain will find its way in. Prepare for an immediate level 4 lockdown if/when it surfaces in the community is the word."
While the lockdown part isn't hugely surprising, I guess the view that they now see it as "likely" that it resurfaces in the community is bit of a change.

Got my hopes up for a second there!

I'm still dubious about how that works given the current testing results is what 24 hours? So you get tested, wait 24 hours, then get on a plane, assuming you can get a test in that right time, otherwise are you self-isolating between test and leaving to ensure you dont pick it up after you get tested?
Dont get me wrong, anything we can do to protect our borders is great, I'm just not sure how this works practically (but if an instant saliva one turns out to work, then that will be great)
-
@taniwharugby You have to book a MIQ room months in advance so getting a test should be a breeze. All it does is eliminate anyone known to be infected. They then get tested on Day's 0, 2 and 11. All seems sensible to me.
I do worry about how robust our procedures are during transfer and at the Jet Park
-
@dogmeat well if you listen to the people they interview for TV, managing to get a pre-flight test timed right, and MIQ arent easy to line up in some of these countries ravaged with Covid (problems everywhere )
I wonder how many are suspected to have it when they jump on a plane, to then possibly transmit it to people en-route, given face masks are not compulsary on planes? So yeah will stop a few, but by the same token, there will likely be a small % who contract it after the pre-flight test too.

Depending on the tests that are available, it can be almost impossible, because most places can't get a result within 72 hours - in fact, that is usually the timeframe they give as the maximum. If it were extended to 96 hours, things wold be much easier. We are struggling with this right now, as we have people trying to get back, but can't get the test done, the result back (and the form signed, thanks MOFA), and then make their planes. As it is, they have to take the risk of the company getting the result back at its fastest (most say 48 hours to 72 hours) rather than its slowest.
-
Cross your fingers!
For NZ it sounds like there isn’t a special form, which is good, because for Japan there is a set form that has to be completed by the testing company.
One of our staff flew from Canada to France so he could get the test done at CDG (and even then he apparently had to beg them to complete the form), then he could fly through to Japan.

@booboo Covid, so comes in here
While he may have some valid points, is great how Stuff gives so many a platform, I should submit an article with my opinion on something...cricket? rugby? golf? Covid?
I spoke to someone recently who came back from California, he said it is mental over there, but was just pleased to be here, didnt seem to have many complaints.
spoke to my mate in Seattle - he got Covid from one of his team members. They refuse to wear masks.. and there's supposed to be no large gatherings. Mate asked where he'd been that he may have got it - church.. how many people there.. 2,000.
they just don't give a fcuk. All about the individual over there.

@gt12 By the sounds it needs to be of certain standard?
Airlines will play a key role in checking passengers’ documentation before their journey begins. On arrival, customs staff will check arrival cards and inspect test documents.

That’s where things can get even more sticky. Fuck this virus, with new regulations like that I cant see us getting home in 2021 either. A fast test costs about $300 a person, so there is another $1000 extra to go home.
