Auckland higher percentage gone on second doses in Counties-Manukau.
What the fark is going on???!!!
-
Dunno. Do you think that is bad? I don't have an opinion on it yet.
I'd wager that the ratio of vaccination resources to people in category 1 - by DHB - means more border and quarantine requirements in greater Auckland (particularly Counties-Manukau) are absorbing vaccines that in other DHBs with less border pressure have gotten to dentists already.
I don't have an opinion on concentrating more vaccinators in Auckland to even this out. E.g. I don't know the efficiancy of moving qualified people, who by nature are spread around the country, to Auckland for a blitz. Apart from military medics, who are probably already deployed there, I don't know where the extra capacity comes from.
(By my maths - 49.9% of vaccinations have been issued in Auckland)

Counties Manukau probably included that very first cohort of border workers, etc.

Major MIQ facilities are here. Almost all community cases start here. Excuse me for thinking the majority of resources should be directed here, to workers and the general public

That's 50% of the vaccinations going to a geographic area with approx 33% of NZ's population? Maybe it could be a bit higher, but there are plenty of Ports, MIQ facilities, aged care facilities, and front line doctors elsewhere as well.

@canefan
Of course, but the majority are.So far 50% of vaccinations for 33% of the population.
So, what is the the magic number?
You don't prevent 65 year old GP in Upper Hutt who ain't moving anywhere from giving vaccine to whoever is next on his list because Auckland hasn't hit x% yet.

Yeah. Just having a grumble.

So far it reads like a case of Keep Calm and Carry On.

Ashley has called an unscheduled press conference at 1pm. Word around the campfire is there is a new community case. Meanwhile those in my profession based in Auckland still wait for the vaccine roll out, and colleagues of mine in Wellington already have theirs. What. the. actual. fuck.
Well that will be a short trans- Ta$man bubble.
fck off!!!

Pretty much all of our cases are coming from the airport so they are focusing there and working outwards to Manukau, etc. The rest of the country haven't had any issues anyway so why would they get vaccinated (in a rush). Start at the root of the problem and work outwards seems logical.
Interesting that DHB are the quantifiers for vaccines, but the whole Auckland area is defined for a lockdown.

@donsteppa maybe but impossible to enforce. How many people live in Waitemata but work in Auckland etc.
Perhaps some planners could pore over a map for a few days to figure out a better approach within the Auckland Council boundaries than moving, say, Wellsford into Level 3 for a household of cases in Papatoetoe.

Exactly. The tunnels are a pretty good place to have a road block. It cost local businesses big time because nobody could be bothered.
Auckland is Auckland right?

The numbers arriving at our borders in the past week seem to be increasing massively, especially from India, surely it is only a matter of time before the is an Indian mutation to deal with?

That 'Other Sites' number is the NZDF personnel I think.

Even an Auckland lockdown is impossible to enforce. Completely relies on public buy in, same as it would be for a North Shore lockdown.

For sure, but we do have easier places to enforce. The bridge, the tunnels. They were all miles away from the problem areas and businesses suffered that needn't have.

AT the risk of being a dog with a bone on this subject ....
Isn't that what they've done (with the excess capacity)?
They started at Auckland, at some point 100% of all vaccinations were in Auckland. But there are 1000s and 1000s of health professionals and facilities around the country that can't move to Auckland.
I'd probably look at it as 2 separate rollouts.
The 'surge' rollout where the excess or mobile capacity is moved to Auckland. Clearly this is happening judging by the Counties Manukau stats. Whether it is fast enough or what they are doing to increase velocity etc, sure, there's a conversation in that. Then there is the 'normal' rollout. The aged GPs -or the youngish GPs, nurses, pharamacists etc with kids, clinics and lives they can't just upsticks from and relocate to Auckland for a month.
The rollout isn't going to be even across the board.
