Played prop today for 2nds - loosehead then shifted to tighthead when we were getting a bit of pressure there. The guy starting at THP was getting his 50th cap so I let him pick which side he wanted. Went down 6-0 after we didn't see the ball for 15 minutes, but once we got going we finished over the top 33-20. Firsts lost after playing some rugby as dumb as they are talented.
Anyway, I got a point from the coach for doing the dirty work at ruck time while all big boppers who have come across from league just wanted to set up and run the ball. Which is fine as they were hurting people in contact, but I was getting pretty stuffed with the other 2 white guys in the pack having to cover every fucking ruck...
70 minutes full game. Was going to back up for 1s but they didn't need me, thank fuck. I'll be sore enough tomorrow but it was a good day.

@canefan especially at my age!
Iām in awe of anyone who gets on the field at that age. As someone who essentially pussied out of rugby in my mid-20s, the idea of subjecting my body to that absolutely awesome but insanely brutal sport is unthinkable. Weirdly enough though I have this recurring dream of taking the field but suddenly realising I donāt have a mouth guard. Not sure what tf Freud would make of that!

@rancid-schnitzel while watching a game on Saturday TR Jnr is like you should play for the B's next year dad!
I wonder if he heard me speak to an old mate who managed to play a Senior game with his son a few weeks back and how much of a buzz that would be and thought we might get there...unlikely as if I did ever go back, I doubt I'd be able to walk by time he was playing senior footy! haha
Most guys I talk to who go back after a length lay off say it is the constant impacts that take thier toll.

It would be seriously cool to play with your kid. The closest I came to that was training my sonās team. It was a buzz just running as āoppositionā at training. The idea of playing is awesome but Iām a realist. Iād also have to stack on some weight. The Islanders would snap me in half!

@rancid-schnitzel yeah as most here know, I coached his team for 8 years, but he is on a break form rugby although he has started talking about asking the new coach about calling him up if they have any injuries.
But he'd be a good 3 years away from senior rugby, meaning I'd be dangerously close to 50 by then...while I'm in decent shape, there are some huge feckers that play the game these days!

@rancid-schnitzel might ask what you like being put in your mouth! or don't!
-
i've resigned myself to the fact that i'll never play another game. And that includes golden oldies. My neck and my back are fucked, and even in the old boys stuff there are always a couple of heroes who want to go too hard. Sad, but i had my time. 14 years straight of senior rugby was enough.

Gets expensive too - the medical bills add up.

@mariner4life yeah I have played a handful of GO games, great fun!
Body feels it next day, but love it too much to miss out!
TR Jnr did use one of my lines on him to me about it too...I have said to him I didnt want him to look back in a few years and regret not doing something...I'm already at the point of regretting I didnt play a few seasons 4 or 5 years back. Oh well...

i think i mentioned i had thoughts of going back and playing reserve grade last year, but COVID, and then i proper put my back out trying to chuck a kid in a pool, and i realised that my time had very much passed.
And like Rancid, i would have to put too much weight on even to play that level. Be easy to lift in a lineout though...

I'm off to see a specialist (Greg Macleod) this week to address my knee. My entire intent is to get to France and then I'll hang up the boots.
