Never heard of Sam Raimi until mentioned here. <br />
<br />
I generally dont pre-judge movies by directors, unless it is Tim Burton...
<br />
<br />
In this case with Raimi you kind of have to know what you're letting yourself in for. I loved Drag Me To Hell because I was expecting it to be a bit out of kilter and it was.<br />
<br />
As mentioned the Evil Dead series is something you should have a look at to get a feel for his work, if you're interested. Spider-man no so much especially the last Emo tinged one.<br />
<br />
Evil Dead was scary as fuck. The 2nd movie was scary but a direct spoof of the first and the third is just good fun and completely ridiculous. -

Ah classic! I might have to go find some torrents...
<br />
<br />
How bad is some of the stop motion animation in that film ? hilarious. Actually the PS2 game is some great brainless fun, only gripe is that you start with the chainsaw and shotgun combo, any additional weapon "upgrade" is more of a downgrade. -

It wasn't a massive leap from Jason and The Argonauts even though the movies are nearly 30 years apart. If there was ever a movie I'd like to see remade it's the Army of Darkness.<br />
<br />
Dream pairing would be Raimi and Peter jackson(in Brain Dead, Meet the Feebles mode) as co-directors. Bruce Campbell is the only guy who could play Ash though...or is he? Any ideas? -
The guy who plays Stifler perhaps ? he has an amazing ability to make a shit movie ( American pie and its sequals ) watchable and funny. With his rubberfaced zanyness he'd be bloody good. <br />
<br />
Bruce Campbell is getting on and his physique nowadays certainly says "character actor" more than "action hero" but a gratuitous cameo could be in order. -
Thats an inspired bit of casting that. He would do the sarcasm well and the stifler nasty streak also lends itself to the role.<br />
<br />
I find myself thinking of Ryan Reynolds again. When the guy isn't being a pretty boy and ruining comic book characters he is very funny and charismatic which is exactly what you want Ash to be. plus he gets props for bagging Scarlet!<br />
<br />
Ideally though you'd want Campbell but the B-grade years have really not been good to the gut. -
Surrogates; 6/10<br />
<br />
was ok, a tad slow, lacking in action given what we expect from ol' Bruce. -
My wife and I tried to watch Bruno last night. Utter shit. Basically recycled jokes from Borat. <br />
<br />
SOme of the people he made fun of were not deserving of it at all and the ones that were made me sick.<br />
<br />
[spoiler:stta0rmf]I like a bit of immature infantile humour as much as the next guy and did laugh during the pigmy sex stuff but that was it.[/spoiler:stta0rmf]<br />
<br />
Turned it off after 35min -

I lasted all the way through but yeah, no hurry to see it again. Mercifully it wasn't that long. As I said though I'm god damn certain more people were actually in on it than in Borat. Raz just be thankful you [spoiler:1k7ihqy3]turned it off before the straight Dave scene, lets just say that's something I could quite comfortably never see again[/spoiler:1k7ihqy3] -
Saw Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy last night. Utter shæt. I thought the TV series was bad but the movie was total pants. There are some books that just can't be made to film and you really had to read the books to understand what the hell was happening in the film. The effects were good but the acting and altered plot were cråp. <br />
<br />
W: Terrific performance from Josh Brolin as W. One of the worst performances ever by Thandie Newton as Rice. God god she was shit. Entertaining enough film, not the total hatchet job the lefties were expecting but still hardly a sympathetic portrayal of Bush or his family.<br />
<br />
Angels and Demons: Entertaining enough without being brilliant. Absurd plot but on the whole a good adaption from the book. -
Last House on the Left - not a bad thriller, obviously follows the tried and true format for these kind of thrillers, but a decent enough watch 6.5/10<br />
<br />
Although <br />
<br />
[spoiler:1d15x3xi]I dont see why they felt the need to explode that dudes head in the mocrowave, I mean you thought he was dead movie kinda ended and then they ruined it with somethign trivial. Also, I did like the fact they steered from the norm of the baddie not really being dead and jumping up for one last go at killing them, and the guy actually checked his pulse (even if he was still alive)[/spoiler:1d15x3xi] -

I used to think Newton was fit as anything now as the roll by she looks more and more like Eartha Kitt...yeeeeeeeeeeuuuuuuuuuccccccccccckkkkkk!!!! -

As I mentioned earlier I thought that was a pretty decent flick TR. Certainly one of the better ones of its type. But as you mentioned [spoiler:1hk5wghv]the microwave scene was a bit ridiculous, also there is no way his head would explode like that, his skin would burn and his brain would get all messed up internally but to actually explode ? not likely.Like so many movies nowadays this is a remake ( where are all the original stories ) and in the original the daughter actually dies, I think it may have been a better flick if they'd have stuck to this.[/spoiler:1hk5wghv] -

especially...<br />
<br />
[spoiler:34koxfpo]given microwaves dont normally work when the door is open...in a way, I didnt mind it that the daughter lived, in fact all of them did (I thought for sure the father or the boy would be killed) so often they simply kill people because that is what we expect them to do, and then sometimes simply for the added drama. On the exploding thing, it may do, because dont microwaves cook things from the inside out?[/spoiler:34koxfpo] -

<br />
well [spoiler:3v3slfo0]you can rig the switch on the door to stay down even if the door is open,. No problem there.....as for the exploding head maybe the boys from mythbusters need to get in on the act. As I said it would mess up the brain internally but I doubt it'd make something as solid as a skull disintergrate like that[/spoiler:3v3slfo0] -
Do not under any circumstances watch "2012". I was cheering for the giant tidal wave to sink all the arks. Fuck me, what garbage.
<br />
<br />
If I see the words "Roland" and "Emmerich" listed under the title on a movie poster I avoid like the plague.<br />
<br />
Independence Day - bit of fun disaster movie<br />
<br />
Gozilla - less fun disaster movie<br />
<br />
The Day After Tomorrow - no fun disaster movie<br />
<br />
10000 BC - just a disaster of a movie<br />
<br />
2012 - seeing a pattern emerge -
Watched The Vinters Luck last night. It's based on the (kiwi) Elizabeth Knox novel of the same name and is directed by Nikki Caro. It was a pile of utter shit. Nikki really missed the point of the book and it is hard to believe that is was the same director that did whale rider and North Country. <br />
<br />
Read the book and never see the movie.
<br />
<br />
In case anyone is interested. <br />

<br />
The author Elizabeth Knox lay in bed and cried for days after watching Niki Caro's film adaptation of her acclaimed book The Vintner's Luck.<br />
<br />
Knox, who got to see the film only days before its first public showing, says she was shocked and upset by how much it departed from her story.<br />
<br />
"She took out what the book was actually about, and I was deeply surprised and deeply puzzled by it, because I don't know why she did it."<br />
<br />
The film did have virtues, including its visual beauty and the actors' performances, Knox said.<br />
<br />
"But I kept expecting the story that I'd written to happen."<br />
<br />
The movie opened in New Zealand last week. It has received a critical drubbing both here and overseas, but Knox has kept her reaction quiet until now because she wanted viewers to decide for themselves.<br />
<br />
The book centres on a 19th-century gay romance between an angel, Xas, and a French peasant winemaker, Sobran Jodeau.<br />
<br />
But the film reduced that relationship to little more than the angel giving advice about wine, Knox said.<br />
<br />
"The film doesn't do the gay romance. It has a vague gay flirtation that amounts to nothing and it has quite a lot of heterosexual sex in it."<br />
<br />
Immediately after seeing it, Knox wrote an email to Caro praising much of the movie but also calling it a "betrayal" for its treatment of the relationship. She received a response that was polite, but a "great big cop-out", she said.<br />
<br />
Since then, she and her husband, the publisher Fergus Barrowman, had sent more emails to the film's producers, including one while "I was lying in bed crying for several days", Knox said.<br />
<br />
The disappointment had come during a difficult year, when her mother had also been ill, so it was hard to separate the stress from that and the film.<br />
<br />
She had little to do with making the movie, she said. "I believe in letting people get on with their jobs. And I also trusted [Niki] and had respect for her as an artist."<br />
<br />
Knox said she would have been happy if Caro had ignored the tale and created a great new film, but that wasn't the case. "She's taken her own chance on her own story – and it hasn't worked."<br />
<br />
When contacted by The Dominion Post yesterday, Caro immediately hung up and subsequently did not return phone messages.<br />
<br />
REVIEWS OF THE FILM<br />
<br />
Not even Caro's earthy, sensuous film-making can overcome the tale's glib supernatural conceit, overstated moral lessons and overall dramatic torpor. Justin Chang, Variety<br />
<br />
An overblown work of amazing silliness. Peter Brunnete, The Hollywood Reporter<br />
<br />
Ad Feedback <br />
Readers of the book will be wondering why Caro has left out, well, pretty much everything ... What is left over is not only nonsensical, it is bloody tedious. Graeme Tuckett, The Dominion Post<br />
<br />
Niki Caro's film of The Vintner's Luck will divide audiences. Some will despise it with a passionate fire, and some will merely find it rather dull and pointless. David Larsen, Listener<br />
<br />
Falls midway between absurd and engrossing, misjudged and intelligent. Mike Goodridge, Screen Daily<br />
<br />
The film's lyrical beauty and intelligence makes it something quite unexpected. Paul Fischer, Dark Horizons
