Champions Trophy

  • Kicked off with England easily running down Bangladesh's 305.

We have Aussie tonight I think

  • I watched some of the Bangles innings - England bowling looked pretty good, but the Bangles weren't often troubled on that pitch. They ended up being a bit conservative in only posting 305. England did that comfortably - almost never behind in the runs/overs comparison.

Oz has a pretty scary squad. Their team will probably look something like:

Warner, Finch, Lynn, Smith, Stoinis, Maxwell Wade, Starc, Pattinson, Hazlewood, Zampa

Though they can chuck in Head, Cummins, Henriques or even Hastings for any of these. (How does Hastings make this team?).

  • Nah bullshit, that team is rubbish. Warner averages 28 in England, Finch is way more miss than hit, especially at ODI level, Lynn is a T20 slogger of note, but unproven at 50 cricket (especially batting at 3 if we nab one real early). Stoinis has played 3 times (yes he whacked us for a massive hundred). And then we are in to the tail.

Their pace attack is terrifying though. But Zampa wears a fucking headband while bowling, who the fuck is scared of that? And their 5th bowler options from that selection are shithouse.

And it is Australia in England, which is almost as bad for them as Aus in India these days. Us by plenty

Apply that standard to the Black Caps and it isn't pretty. Our 5th bowling options are Neesham/Anderson, our tail starts at 5, they have Wade but we have Ronchi etc.

This is the kind of post that winds up being brought up after the game. And not in a good way.

But yes, I think you have a good point. They are not as good as they were, particularly away from Australian slogging pitches.

  • @hydro11 ah yes, but the crucial difference is, we are not talking about us. I'm well aware how deeply average we are. But then Guppy, Kane and Rossco would walk in to that Aus batting lineup. How often have we been able to say that?

  • If the deck is flat then Aus have a few blokes that can go big, fast. But so do we. Pretty even I reckon, a couple of early wickets to Boult and we'll be way ahead of the game. We need Guppy to fire though as he's one of our few players that can genuinely get on top of Starc.

  • @mariner4life Presumably this is some sort of demonstration of the misuse of free speech?

You could have just gone to a movie theatre and shouted "fire" - but, nooooo - Admiral Fourlife WANTS to see Maxwell make 150!

Anyway, more importantly, win toss and insert them? Hope they go too hard and fall over cheaply?

  • Out of interest, I checked the weather forecast. Light rain is predicted for most of the day so it could be a shortened match.

you know it would be incredible to watch

  • Good optimistic post from @mariner4life building us up and getting everyone optimistic about our chances tonight, before we all turn the TV off and go to bed at 20/6. The cycle of supporting the Black Caps never changes.

  • Bowl first, roll their top order, watch them crumble...

  • Bowl first, watch them set 350, think to yourself "well the run chase will be entertaining!" and watch us struggle our way to 180 all out from 47 overs as the seemingly flat track has magically become a minefield for our batsmen.

  • being realistic isn't making you any friends here @No-Quarter

  • It will when we pull of an improbable victory against the mighty Australians to go through to the next round, depsite your best efforts to put the mockers on us.

Recent history suggests we will be on the wrong end of a hiding

  • @canefan Yeah - on the TAB Oz is $1.50 and we're $2.45 and that's only because some high roller in Cairns has apparently staked his house on the game.

I hope mariner has a caravan or a car to sleep in when we get pumped

    Hmmm 🤔

  • Well, I couldn't have been more wrong in the team that the Aussie selectors have chosen.

Dumb fucks - they must have spent most of their time debating how many Marshes they could fit in the team, before realizing they couldn't have any.

Anyway, I'm happy - how could you not pick Stoinis to play against NZ?

Kane wins the toss and decides to bat.

I'm less happy about that, because I think it removes our most likely winning scenario (Aussies go too hard).

Aside from that- they've chosen the team I predicted and would have chosen, so away we go.

    Get into it Ronchi!!!!
