Movie review thread...

Watched 500 Days of Summer (shut up, it was free), supposed to be a rom-com, not a lot of com & no rom, its about a guy getting dumped (no spoiler they tell you that from word go), very quirky, but pretty good too, if you've ever been a wreck over some heartless whore who dumped you you'll get a lot out of it <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> was enough humour to make it worth the watch, wouldn't take a 1st date to it tho' as it'll polarise men & women, could take a long term missus to it tho'<br />
<br />
Watched Public Enemies too, great acting directing script etc, but pretty fecking boring really. Reminded me of The Assasination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (the brad pitt thing). Sort of "worthy" rather than being "fun" -
Just watched Smokin' Aces.<br />
<br />
Very long cast - longs of familiar faces. Pretty good movie as well.<br />
<br />
Based on a Las Vegas magician played by Jeremy Piven who they're trying to get to testify against the mob. He's holed up in Lake Tahoe. Ryan Reynolds and Ray Liotta are FBI agents assigned to get him once the deal is set. By a whole bunch of assassins are also heading there.<br />
<br />
Cast with Andy Garcia, Ben Affleck, Jason Bateman and Alicia Keys.<br />
<br />
Good shoot em up movie that has a lot of characters - sometimes too many, trying to sort through who's shooting who! Very enjoyable. -

You missed out Kiwi Martin Henderson. <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> <br />

I thought it was a good switch off your brain action film. -
I don't usually go for martial arts movies (even though I do kick box...poorly) but I really like Ong Bak. Story was shocking, much didn't really make sense and the acting was non existent. However the action and fight sequences were amazing. Tony Jaa is out of it. The stunts he performs are crazy. <br />
<br />
Tonight I watched Ong Bak 2. That movie is "fuck off" awesome. Viusally stunning. The acting is not going to win any oscars but it was a huge improvement on the first. The action sequences really put all the CGI crap to shame. No wires, if there are its hard to spot them, or harnesses like the hong kong industry heavily rely on. <br />
<br />
I give it a 9/10 awesome! -

I saw Ong Bok 1. Yeah. It was pretty freaky. The non-existent blocks in MTB freaked the sh#t out of me. Haven't seen OB2. Will get it out tomorrow. -
Went three straight days of working, hitting a deadline on caffeine and without sleep, but damn if I was going to miss the midnight premiere of District 9. It was definitely a bit different than I expected. Not as splatter disgusting, for one. I thought it was a pretty good to excellent sci-fi thriller, not perfect, yet worth the time. Definitely not Hollywood, but the conventions are there. It wasn't until after the movie talking about it with friends that there were a number of fascinating discussion points that elevate it beyond the typical. I will see it again, slightly less hopped-up on sleep deprivation next time. 8/10.

I concur. Bloody good sci flick. It's been a long time since I've seen a film with such an original concept. Some people may find a few holes in the whole aliens living on earth thing (actually reminded me a bit of the V mini series that people have been on about) but it is really well made and gripping. I'll definitely see it again. -
You can watch a combat sequence demo Blomkamp did for the abandoned Halo film here:<br />

District 9 is a brilliant movie, very interesting at the start and emotionally gripping towrds the end - quite magnificant stuff really. Loved the documentary style methodology (instead of having some twit narrate and explain the whole thing to you at the beginning of the movie)...<br />
<br />
Highly reccomend it xzxgood -
Just back from seeing the awesomeness of Clint Eastwood in Gran Torino. Only he could get away with playing just a bastard and be so damn likable.
<br />
<br />
Just seen the dvd. Terrific movie. xzxgood Didn't expect the outcome but it was a great way of finishing the story.<br />
<br />
I've added "Get off my lawn" to my other favourite one-liners. -
Seven Pounds; more evidence of the acting talent that is Wil; Smith - 7.8/10
<br />
<br />
Will Smith is a terrific actor. I must be the only person in New Zealand that didn't think much of the `Men in Black' movies (which I went to see because both Will Smith and the fabulous Tommy Lee Jones was in it) but all the other movies that I've seen him in have been thrilling, tear-jerking or funny.<br />
<br />
Some I'd recommend: Independence Day, Enemy of the State and Pursuit of Happyness.<br />
<br />
The Day the Earth Stood Still; more evidence of the lack of acting talent that is Keanu Reeves (mind you, shit script TBF)
<br />
<br />
Saw the original 1951 movie on television once and although the special effects may appear corny today, the storyline was far better than today's remake. By all accounts, instead of remaking the original movie they based their story on the original short story that the original movie was based on. Confused...? xzxwacko1 <br />
<br />
I don't think they made enough of the evil robot. He scared the living daylights out of me. Instead they gave us a PC ending. Boring.<br />
<br />
By the way, the little boy in the movie, Jaden Smith, is Will Smith's son in real life. -

It seems to be fashionable these days to take the base material as your muse. I think it makes its easier to call your movie a "re-imagining" than a remake. Like "willy wonka and the chocolate factory" as opposed to "charlie and the chocolate factory" -
District 9 which was great. Even the girlfriend enjoyed it. I enjoyed Startrek but this was heaps better.<br />
<br />
The Wrestler which was good but not great. Great acting was what made the movie.<br />
<br />
The Orphanage which is a horror with a great story and good ending. Worth a watch but is subtitled so stay away if you can't be bothered reading. -

<br />
Howscary' is it? I'm asking as a huge sci-fi fan (but one who gets terrified in ghost / horror movies). xzxshok <br /> <br /> Anyone seen the latest Terminator movie? It looks really
bleak', whereas all the others have been great sci-fi-action movies. -

Not that scary. A few moments that might make you squeamish, though. -

I want some ethnic minorities to loiter outside my house so I can tell them that back in ( insert country of origin here ) I used to stack fucks like them five feet high and use them as sandbags but sadly no one has yet. Probably a bit hard to pull off given I've never fought in any wars but I am tall and menacing lke clint eusa_whistle eusa_whistle eusa_whistle <br />
<br />
I think I may have posted this already.... eusa_think -
Gran Torino was all class. Really enjoyed it. The bit I liked (or one of them) was when he gobbed at the old lady and she did that huge gob back ... xzxsarcastic

The scene with the black dudes is probably my favourite. Interestingly the young white boy walking Sue home is Clints real life son, have a look at him the resemblance is pretty strong.....
