GODDAMMIT!!! I have put on 3.5 kgs in 10 days. I wasn't taken my excerise seriously enough!!! <br />
I'm now walking 1hr and 12 mins a day to and from work. Gyming during Lunch and cricket practise on Tuesdays and Saturday!!!<br />
<br />
Changing my diet will be more gradual than instant.<br />
<br />
Smoked on the weekend but haven't had one without a beer, which I suppose is something<br />

<br />
Do you play squash? Could give you a game after work a few times a week if you want.<br />
<br />
<br />
I wish I did. There are only two sports I really hate. Squash and Badminton.<br />
Would have been ideal though with us working so close.<br />
<br />
How good are you?? If you're really good it would be pointless for you and I would end up throwing my racket at you in frustration as you played me around the court. If you're only ok, I could be up for a game! -
I'm very average. I rely on fitness and speed to make up for poor shot selection.<br />
<br />
As I'm current unfit and slow, and you have a significant reach advantage, you should be fine. It's mainly a good way to run around for 40mins without realising you are running around for 40mins - beats mindless treadmilling anyway. -
I have bad news for you Hooroo.<br />
<br />
Whilst giving up the cigs will improve your fitness, as you will be able to breathe better, but your eating and drinking habits will change.<br />
<br />
I gave up fags 18 months ago. Feel miles better, but have put on a shed load of weigth, notwithstanding exercise etc.<br />
<br />
Not sure if the old metabolism is slowing down as a result as well. -
You always gain weight when you stop smoking, I think there's something in cigs that artificially keep your weight down a couple of kilos. Once you give up the smoke you put on 2 or 3 kgs.<br />
<br />
I wouldn't go on a diet and quit smoking at the same time, too much of a shock for the ol' body methinks. -
Putting on weight after smoking is as simple as one thing: You eat more. The habitual mode of cigarettes isn't just in the ingestion of various chemicals and the body's reaction to them - its the physical act of something to do. When you give up you need to fill your hands with something every 20 minutes and food seems to be the most common item, simply because its the most common to obtain. The chemical side is that its a stimulant like caffeine and keeps you going.<br />
<br />
I gave up when at Uni and having only been a smoker for a couple of years, was fine... well that and I couldn't afford to eat. My Dad gave up while working his arse off on the farm and still managed to eat his way to another two stone. Have to say the old man would have made a great prop - 6 feet tall, about 110kg fully fit, 14 hours a day on the farm and mentally as tough as old horseshoes. Good pace for a nugget too. Shame his youth was misspent on aussie rules, but he can kick the leather off it... -
The worse thing is, I can easily enough not have a smoke during the week, but come the weekend on the piss I smoke enough to make up for the week. I've decided to have a couple of weeks off the booze after this weekend so I can make the 2 week barrier which is the essential first barrier in giving up.<br />
<br />
I haven't been snacking at all during the day.<br />
<br />
My first game of squash since puberty will be bloody hard I imagine! -
Thanks to Phooey, I tried his 'Don't smoke until a certain time' and I set it at 8pm (We went out at 7) It worked!!!! In fact at 8pm I pushed the boat out to 9pm and then didn't end up smoke at all. Although when I got dropped off, I was tempted to have a wee puff on the car exhaust. Cravings suck, but the mind is stronger!<br />
<br />
Bad day for food. All you can eat Chinese!!! 6 plates full.<br />
<br />
Have to burn it off at Squash tonight -
Eat all the
<br />

Is that a low carb thing? -
Maybe, but it's going to be hard to put on too much weight eating stri-fried vegies and some meat. The Chinese don't have any creamy sauces, although some of their dishes can have a lot of sugar and a bit of batter. And ginger's good for your digestion system.

Good lad. The cheat day becomes a beacon at the end of the week, and is taking all my will power to wait. Especially as my wife is still eating things like chocolate and losing weight with zero exercise. -
I had a quarter pounder, most of a large fries (they made me nauseous at one point, but I pressed on <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />) and a diet coke <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> Besides that, two protein shakes and a cup of tea today with weetbix + banana for breakfast....

Terribly depressed about it, but the kick up the jacksy I needed. Didn't even have a beer while watching the Arsenal last night.
