Started watching 'The Vietnam War' on History Channel. 2017 doco on eponymous war.
Fascinating stuff for someone whose understanding was as a child of the 70s watching the news (and not understanding), 'Apocalypse Now', 'Platoon' and 'Tour of Duty'.
Watching it seemed a bit Ken Burns-ish... And guess what? It is.
Goes back into the origins of the conflict, being French colonialism, expanding to resistance against the rise of communism post WWII, to the US kind of getting involved by accident and supporting the despotic South Vietnamese regime because they were not Goddam Commies.
Paints Ho Chi Minh almost as the hero (and he seems to have been sidelined as the conflict develops).
Had never previously worked out the difference between the North Vietnamese and the Viet Cong (the latter were the South Vietnamese revolutionaries), so that in itself was justification for watching.
According to the doco essentially it seems most of the Vietnamese (North and South) wanted rid of the colonial power (France for a start, then the Yanks), except for those who found power in the South.
Five episodes in of 10.
Am comparing the the civil unrest of the 60s (not just the anti war sentiment but the civil rights movement) with the current unrest and am thinking the US needs go get a grip and understand what is actually important.
My old man was a doctor in the States in the late 60s and due to his skill set was in serious danger of being drafted. He pretty much said ‘fuck that’ and moved to Canada.
I must mention this show to him, he’d find it very interesting.

The Pembrokeshire Murders (ITV) - based on a true story/inspired by real events of the investigation of 3 cold cases, 2 double murders and a rape and assault.
Luke Evans as the lead detective, pretty decent series, moved at decent pace, not a must watch, but a decent watch.

Watching the US version of The Bridge.
Yeah it's pretty good eh, definitely watchable and apart from the very start and the basic premise, not all too familiar.
Started on Night Stalker on Netflix too, doc series about a serial killer in LA in the 80s. Short series but ep 1 was great, this psycho is nek level.

is that the one with Diane Kruger?
If so i really enjoyed it

@mariner4life yeah, I found her character really annoying at first and couldn't decide if her child like savant was just shit acting or the script. It's the script but soon get used to it.
The villain from scream is still acting up eh.
Marco Rrrrrruiz is cool.

I liked the US Bridge too, although I've never seen the Scandi version or the British one (The Tunnel?).

I'm working my way through For All Mankind on Apple TV+. I hadn't realised that Ronald D. Moore was one of the creators before I started watching this. An interesting take on an alternative history in the space race.
I really enjoyed this show - the sneaks at Apple have pushed back the second season until after the years free Apple TV runs out.

@Nepia That's the reason I'm watching it now. My free 1 yr ends next month. I suppose I will have to subscribe again once S2 of that and See have been released.
Oh shit, that reminds me that I still have to watch See.

No it's definitely funny -
Finished Night Stalker (think it was @Bones who had mentioned it)
Holy shit, what an absolute sick shit fluffybunny the Night Stalker was!
:::
Sometimes murdered people with a gun, by stabbing them, by cutting thier head off, by beating them with a tyre iron, sometimes raping them, sometimes let them go, sometimes was a paedo, what an absolute piece of scum.
Then sits on death row for 20 years and dies of cancer, hope it was a painful death!
:::
Then the circus at his trials, man people are morons!
-
@taniwharugby yeah...
:::
Just the way there was no MO and his only driver and motivation was just to do sick depraved shit, so everything was so random. So fucked up.

I've just finished Yellowstone so I need something else.
I watched episode 1 of this as it's just started airing in NZ (only 3 years behind). The reviews are positive and the show has a good cast, but is it worth watching the 3 seasons so far?
