Swimming Saturday. Coach decided to go next level and nearly killed me.
20x50m (1.10)
That means the 50m and rest have to be done in 1 minute 10 sec. Which isn't too hard unless you have to do it 20 farking times!
If that wasn't enough, the follow-up was 10x100 (1.40).
Bru farking tal.fuck old mate, you're an absolute machine. Incredible stuff.

Cheers mate. Was pretty humbling doing it together with 3 15 year olds. 15 year old me wouldn't have even gotten in the water. Doing this swimming has given me a much greater appreciation of what the top level athletes have to put themselves through to get anywhere near the top. No wonder some of them turn to the roids. Imagine putting in all that work, sacrificing everything, devoting your life to that one goal and still getting your arse kicked by someone who is simply better. Makes a mockery of those fatarse sports journalists who rip into athletes who don't do as well as hoped, yet would shit their pants five minutes in to one of their training sessions.

Monday: Swimming again. I was the only adult who showed up so the two 21 year old bastards decided to kill me again. They had me wear something called a drag suit, which is a mesh thing with pockets you wear like you would a pair of speedos. The evil young bastards had me do 18 max effort 25s with that fooking thing on. What the hell have I got myself into!

Squad swimming still on hold until next week so went for run with intervals this morning. Was a bit late out so couldn't make it too long but went OK. Broken record, but fook running is easier than swimming.
running is easier than swimming because if you stop running you walk. if you stop swimming you drown. Also being able to breath exactly when you want is a massive advantage to, you know, life.
Yep. I didn't run for a while and being able to breathe the entire time or breathe without water coming in was pure bliss. Some guy at my son's school was claiming it's easier to swim 1km than run 1km. That's the biggest crock of shit I've ever heard.
He probably floats.

Well yeah, I guess swimming backstroke with flippers and floaties would be easier.

Shoulders today. Went OK but too much chatter with the old bloke guru meant I didn't go the full swole. He was very chatty today. An absolute mine of info about natural remedies. He uses himself as a test subject so can speak from experience if anything works. He was spruiking aloe vera this morning.
Might hit legs tonight if I get the time.
Swimming times changed so I will be able to go 4 times a week now. Will also be making my competitive debut in a relay this weekend. Better practice my diving! -

Going two double days. Yesterday was chest and biceps then swimming. Today is legs than swimming. Will be interesting to see how I go.
Chest and biceps was great. Swole as a mofo, but trained in afternoon so maybe that had something to say. Swimming wasn't too bad. Another adult there who kept blabbering and distracted coach into giving plenty of rest.
Legs was good. Old mate was up for a chat again, but still managed some intensity. Lunges are an absolute cnut aren't they?

@Rancid-Schnitzel yep, and all versions too. Bodyweight ones can really creep up on you! Let alone adding weight!
ha ha old fulla aye - with the talkers you have to just breeze past with a friendly 'gidday' or hello in my experience. If you slow down at all then it's all on.

Swimming in the pm. Again personal training because the other pikers didn't show up. I get that this dude likes to push me but I'm not 20 anymore! Started off with 300 then went 5x100 and 5x100IM. Butterfly is a bitch. Then 6x25 Max efforts. I try not to take any breaths on these so times good but it sure takes it out of you. Then 400m kickboard then 4 last Max efforts. Slept like a log.

@Rancid-Schnitzel listening to how hard the coach is I get why the other dudes aren't showing up!!

I think he gets sick of having to train kids and enjoys thrashing the adults. He's far chirpier when it's just me. I just want to get it done while some of the others can't shut tfu. You see that sometimes with PTs as well. There seems to be way too much talk and not enough action.

Fark, Wednesday already. Legs this morning. Feel pretty wobbly so must have done ok. Swimming tonight will be interesting.
Speaking of which I was in the parents/coaches relay at the carnival on Sunday. Didn't go that well. I was chosen to anchor, which I was rather chuffed about, but after the coach gave us a great start, we were about half a pool length behind when I went in. Was so weird. I had no farking idea where the other dude was and couldn't tell if I was getting anywhere near him. My tumbleturn was a bit dodgy, but I didn't let up. Got to the end to find the other bastard already there. Fark it. My youngest son was sitting pool side and the only thing he said was "you should have gone faster". As if to turn the knife he also said that my coach has much better muscles than me 😂. Can you feel the love. I was absolutely farked. The combination of nervous energy and giving it all really took it out of me. Would like to do it again, but with a bit more preparation and less pressure. Have to work on dive and turns though. Very ordinary.

@Rancid-Schnitzel it's also a whole different kettle of fish when you are actually competing. On my (one and only) 10km timed race I learnt a harsh lesson about how different it is to going for a run on your own. And that was only competing against myself rather than some other buggers.
Ha ha sweet burn from your lad. I hope you held his head under water for a bit!

Felt like it. That boy keeps me on my toes. Only need to get slightly out of shape and that little gremlin will tell me about it. There's brutal honesty and then there's him.

Wednesday night swim. Unfortunately asthma becoming and issue with the colder weather but just had to keep calm and relax. Otherwise young bastard hammered me again. There was another woman there who is very nice but kept bitching the whole time. My back, so tired etc. etc. She's only like 28 ffs. I'm supposed to be the old one. One advantage is that she never shuts up and the distraction can result in a longer break between sets.
This am: Chest and biceps. Yeah not bad. Bit rushed but damn I have the guns workout down pat. Absolutely mint.
Swimming tonight. Was up at 4:30 to take eldest to swimming so reckon I'll be pretty farked by the end of it. Wish I could eat like him. His breakfast/lunch was 8 rolls, 2 apples, 2 muesli bars, 4 donuts, protein powder and 2 lemon lamingtons. Lucky bastard just burns that shit off.
-
@Rancid-Schnitzel fark! Lucky bugger! Sheesh bro you are an ace dad to be managing those early starts!

Well I'm a dad. Not sure if I'm an ace one but I try my best. Hopefully the gf will move in at the end of the year and that will take some of the pressure off.

Was bloody cold and windy as hell this morning, but managed to drag my sorry rump to swimming. Was a decent session and wasn't killed too much. Pool is heated but it's still pretty cold when you first get in. My son tells me his school pool is lovely and warm which will at least keep complaints down to a minimum. People in Brisbane are ridiculous about the cold though. The coach had thermals, beanie, hoodie, great coat and ugg boots on. Hope he never moves to Wellington or Invercagill.

Mother's Day never very easy so we went to one of those bounce places which also had a ninja warrior section. Got really into the ninja warrior part and had a great time. Only problem was getting up this morning and having to swim. Pool session was probably the best thing for it, but arms and shoulders aching like a beatch. Had to cut it short and just do some slow stuff/kickboard. Was worried about the rotator cuff but it seems OK, just really farking sore.
