What are you listening to, right now................

Yeah - Style Council was unusual - some reasonably hard core political lyrics set to "dinner party" music.
In The Jam doco they mentioned David Cameron was a big fan growing up - Weller said dryly, "I'm not sure he listened to the lyrics". I think they were referencing Eton Rifles at the time.
My brother told me Weller has some solo stuff out these days that is worth looking into, but I haven't as yet.

Was an interesting watch for someone who wasn't a big fan. Weller leaving seemed like a big shock to the others, a bit like Sting leaving the Police. I wonder if they get on now? Seemed to me he was happy to leave the Jam in the past, the others are still there

Some of it was I agree.
One of my pet hates is when they refer to them as "Sting and the Police"
Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland were fucken talented mo fo's who deserve much more than that.
EDIT. New system too confusing and I have fucked this up, this reply was meant for the music thread.....

@MN5 I don't know if 'he sold out' (I don't buy the selling out line, musicians can do what they want in my book) but I just don't like his music after The Police. Made worse by being stuck in someone else's car for a trip to Auckland and all they had was Sting's Greatest Hits (solo only). I was hoping to be Marvin in Pulp Fiction on that trip.

BTW, according to the management Toto members have collectively played on over 5000 (!) albums with total sales of more than half a billion.
Not only the artists you mentioned, but Jeff Porcaro played drums on Pink Floyd's "Mother" as Nick Mason couldn't master the time signature changes, the soundtrack for the movie "Dune" is by Toto to name a few other lesser known credits.
Toto are more than just the hits and have an extensive catalogue. Their last album XIV released last year is bloody good. Anyone who is a fan and didn't see them in Auckland in 2008 missed an awesome gig.

Fuck how embarrassing for Mason ! He's not someone I think of in the Bonham/Paice/Moon/Baker echelon but still......

You might like the site AORDISCO. They've posted some mixes solely from tracks that Porcaro played drums on:

Ken Kubiak passed away this weekend after a long battle with cancer and kidney failure. He's the one in the suit from this Francis Sect video from the late 80's

Bloody good song this one despite being a bunch of Australians playing twangy acoustic rock I usually can't stand and the fact that the lead singer looks identical to David Warner. I really dig this song and another one they do, this is a great one to sing along to loudly in the car and embarrass the shit out of the kids.
