Tommy Robinson

  • @Crucial spoken from a point of pure ignorance.

Basically the equivalent of women are oppressed by unequal wages

The reach available in social media far exceeds shitty newspapers. People actually read their social media feed.

  • Here's the documentary exposing the BBC released yesterday.

There was a delay with the upload as they were adding subtitles and the source video corrupted, previously there was only footage from the protest but it was a bit rubbish to watch the doco. I haven't yet watched it, just the clips from it hopefully see it by the end of the week.

edit. Watch it while you can, I'm sure youtube will be next, they have already bent the knee to mainstream media with its search algorithm.

Whats the summary? The BBC were exposed doing what?

Most people aren't going to watch an hour long video..

The link Jegga posted summarises the Documentary.

  • @Duluth I haven't watched it yet, clips released showed BBC reporter disparaging working class people, telling interviewees what to say in an interview and colluding with an extremist group.

There was a suggestion that because no one had posted anything after the build up that maybe there was nothing delivered.

Shit yeah. And guys like Robinson have used that to their advantage by the looks. Everything I see about the guy comes from social media where it is either:

    "Tommy is a true patriot"
    or
"Stephen Yaxley-Lennon is a hateful shitbag"

There is almost zero middle ground from what I can tell. Would we even have heard of him over here in "traditional" media sources? Doubt it.

That's true of basically everything these days. People on the extremities aren't banging drums demanding to be heard like petulant children. Those most ideologically driven are the most motivated to have their story promulgated at the expense of everyone else.

Reasonable people just tend to try and get on with their day.

Some political extremist movements seem more like a religion these days , founded in bullshit that can’t be questioned and if you do you get excommunicated.

It’s been interesting listening to Jamie Kilstein talk about being inside one of those bubbles .

  • @antipodean how does TR fit your view?

I'd suggest he's just trying to get on with his day. He had is assets and bank accounts frozen for 4 years.

Who has the power to do that? What heinous crimes would be on record for that to be acceptable?

  • @Siam I don't know enough about his situation to give a coherent response let alone a deep analysis. But if he has assets regardless of how liquid he can't access that seems unreasonable to me.

From what I know he's not funding meeting groups that become hotbeds of extremism.

  • I haven't watched the doco yet but I think @Siam has?
@Siam in your estimation should this be banned from sharing on facebook?

The doco in question which Facebook has deemed far too dangerous for all you stupid masses:

  • Those doubting the seriousness of this just look at this tweet and think hard if this is the type of thing you want to support

The continual march towards blasphemy laws. They've already started in Australia.

If we don't speak up now..well it isn't going to be pretty.

  • That tweet doesn't appear to be getting a lot of support from people.

  • @Rembrandt the real Tommy Robinson is a 3 part doco about TR s life . I believe it is a MUST WATCH.

By all means go into it with scepticism but I believe objective facts are easily discernible or very easy to verify. Court transcripts, on camera statements from authorities.

Don't watch it to form an opinion of TR politics but rather even handedly ask if all he's been through is warranted. Then wonder at the motivation and methods available to destroy this man vs his official criminal activities.

The BBC gotcha vid is a wake up to fake news.

Both of these docos are incredibly important, not for politics, but for a realisation of the inherent trust we have in our public institutions.

Like knowing that snakes are dangerous, it's behoven upon all of us to know what's capable in our civilised, taken for granted institutions

Edit, there is nothing in these docos harmful or offensive to the public ( bar the spelling mistakes in the subtitles).
This Facebook banning is the worst one yet

It got support from the people that matter though.
I wonder what would happen if Robinson wins a seat in parliament.... let alone UKIP getting seats, it is a very long shot, but FB should prob play a little smarter.

I figured that was the case. Looks like I gotta do some catch-up on Tommy videos. Sorry Mrs Rembrandt, no romantic comedies this weekend!

Also nice little add-on in favour of free speech here. Lets you comment on any article on the internet.

Yeah, but given the ratio I'd say this is just further increasing Robinson's fan base as well. I doubt running for UKIP would be an option if authorities and tech companies had largely left him alone.

For the record, I agree with you, censoring ideas is a very bad mistake that we (humans) have a history of repeating over and over.
