Christchurch Gunman in Mosque

I'm going to be very specific and careful with this comment and am mindful I have preconcieved notions about both people...

But reading the story about the Project calling out Australian PM Scott Morrison was this nugget

“If anything paints a clearer picture on the state of Australian politics today it is this; after Waleed made that genuine, thoughtful, and reasoned contribution on Friday night — a plea for our community to come together — the Prime Minister of our country threatened to sue,” Macdonald said.
“In contrast, New Zealand’s Prime Minister invited Waleed to her country to sit down for an interview.

Ardern has done a pretty admiral job so far IMO, but I really have to question what value does actively seeking out a sit down interview with a foreign journalist have at this point other than vanity and virtue signalling?

I may be reading too much into it and I absolutely have a preconceived notion about her motivations after the baby and UN antics, but to me a sit down interview for a leader with a foreign journo a week out from something like this seems... odd?

Have a press conference every day for the next fortnight, but this? Nah.

You're reading too much into it.
She has done a sit down interview with a few media outlets, Al Jazeera and BBC are two I've seen, and has been doing interviews on some of our breakfast shows.
I don't know much about Waleed but I know Aussie media are interested in this story because the terrorist is one of their lot so makes sense to talk one-on-one to one of their outlets.
Also it is important to keep pushing the narrative so no one else tries to hijack it, like the Turkish President for example. Having worked in media, press conferences don't have the same impact as a one-on-one exclusive.

  • @Sneakdefreak Yep. I'll also be amazed if she's having to 'actively seek out' many interviews in the current climate, I suspect it's the other way around for now...

Arden’s media advisor could probably pick and choose from all the requests that have come in.

On the stuff that was on the Project, Ali tried to make a political point that he had no facts on (referring to other media reports that had little verified facts also), and was called out for it. Not surprising given Ali’s contributions to public debate.

Apparently the people who were in the room when Scott Morrison spoke stand by their claim according to the journalist who wrote the original article.

  • I’ll just leave this here for those of you who don’t know Waleed.

“In its place is a far more sober, pragmatic recognition that terrorism is a perpetual irritant, and that while it is tragic and emotionally lacerating, it kills relatively few people and is not any kind of existential threat.”

  • I'll save you all a read: Waleed is a hypocritical apologist.

  • NZ cricket awards just had the most tedious speech ever. Grant Robertson really is odious.

There is a difference between doing a sit down with an NZ based corrospondent with Al Jazeera or BBC's global affairs correspondent who both happen to be there reporting on the event and handpicking a foreign host of what is ostensibly an opinion show on Australia's third network to fly overseas for an exclusive.

I don't know much about Waleed

The sit down aspect isn't so much what bothers me (although I can't recall sit downs after similar events overseas) as who/why the person was selected.

  • It would be so great if the nzh stopped giving that fuckstick "bishop" an extra platform for his bullshit.

It's just clickbait, but in very poor taste. NZH lowering the bar then crawling under it again

Waleed is a divisive character at the best of times. I agree I see no point to it.

    Simply stunning.

Squalid Ali lied grandly about something Morrison is said to have said which, after a little research, has not passed muster. He proudly sports a black belt in taqiya and a gold logie in evasive - Squalid on people having their heads blown off and guts shredded by the uncivilised:

"a far more sober, pragmatic recognition that terrorism is a perpetual irritant, and that while it is tragic and emotionally lacerating, it kills relatively few people and is not any kind of existential threat."

"Arden’s media advisor" will have been well aware of this.

A pair of poorly educated rank opportunists seizing the occasion.

  • A bunch of radical left wing groups, including the Greens and Auckland Peace Action (FFS) hijacked the vigil at Auckland Domain to talk about colonialism (what?) and smear all white people with the attack. At a vigil that was meant to bring people together to mourn the victims. These people have absolutely no morals. It's narcissism on steroids.

  • I assume Marama Davison was yelling out fluffybunny.

How hard is it to differentiate between a vigil and a rally..

  • Marama Davidson and Golriz Gharaman have been attention whoring and race baiting since the moment the story broke . It ranges from veiled threats at the “ pale”

To ludicrous levels of narcissism in the wake of a tragedy

I hope to god the greens are gone next election, if these people ever actually get some power it’s a terrifying thought.

Speaking of minor parties , Winston got sent out of the country for a while. That’s fairly convenient given his racist , anti immigration , anti Muslim platform got him elected. Of course the media are obsessed with nationals anti un global platform petition and there’s been scarcely a mention of Winston’s past ranting .

Some of the other shameless attention whoring and finger pointing from bloggers like Russell Brown the commenters on the standard and op ed authors has been disgusting . Try and keep a tally of how many times Ms Kane uses the words “i” “me” or “my”in this attention seeking drivel

  • @jegga enhoyed reading the replies to the fluffybunnies tweet, good to see others calling her out as the racist she is

  • Well there's the win for Brenton Harrison Tarrant.

    He wanted division.

    He's got it.

  • I guess if it's fine to point out white privilege and collective responsibility for extremism, racism etc. then that argument holds for all Muslims being responsible for Islamist fanatics?

Because I kept hearing how it's unreasonable and idiotic to hold all Muslims responsible for the actions of the statistically insignificant. Then when a "lone wolf" came out they'd always complain the narrative was different. Now the narrative is the same which leads considerable credence to the original...

  • Sorry, but every reference to what is in his document will be deleted

I know its relevant to the discussion but we are being cautious

"my" Muslim community ? how self centred and "me me me" can a person possibly fucken get ? I can't wait to see the follow up piece in a few weeks when Brodie has opened a mosque in her backyard.

    Fuck off you attention whore......
