Early forecast is for a balmy night so this one should be a cracker.

what exactly is the definition of a balmy night in Wellington?

Yep exactly how I pictured it. I have flown into Wellington on a few balmy days and the plane is going sideways as it comes in over the cook Strait and you can look out your back window and see directly down the runway

  • @Nevorian 8 degrees and a 30 knot Southerly. 😃

  • I think everyone decides to make lame digs about Wellingtons weather cos deep down they know that everywhere else in New Zealand sucks complete arse in comparison to the best little capital in the World.

no, it's because the weather in Wellington is fucked.

It's great, but a bit difficult to enjoy when you're soaking wet and trying not to get blown away in a gale. We went back to Lower Hutt one Christmas and after yet another day of drizzle my brother (who barely remembers NZ) asked why we hadn't come in summer. But if you don't give a shit about the weather then all good 👍.

You choose not to even live in NZ so your opinion is rendered moot.

I don't. That's what umbrellas and beanies are for.

I don't think a bit of rain and wind makes a place bad, people constantly gripe about it when it happens while they visit here like it's the first time they've ever seen it in their lives and their own homelands are some utopia without wind and rain.

Get a grip and stop exaggerating.

I don't think a bit of sun makes a place great, people constantly boast about it when it happens (can't beat Wellington on a good day) like it's the only place they've ever seen in their lives with sun and others own homelands are some dystopia that never get sun.

I went to every Canes game in Wellington in Year One of the Hammettuer (might as well have used the money as toilet paper). And I'm 100% not kidding every game was played in a near torrential downpour going sideways. The actual worst thing about it was that on all bar one of those days it was nice and sunny about two hours before kick off.

Doesn't help if the umbrella gets blown inside out.

    Exactly.

I moved to London just before Xmas many moons ago. Hated it.

Everyone said "oh wait til Summer, it'll be heaps better"

It wasn't, it was just considerably hotter.

Being an expert in destroying a rugby team is a far cry from the power of Tawhirimatea.

  • I'd choose Wellington over any other city in a heart beat, not just because I'm from here but because other cities in NZ don't have much going for them to be fair. Auckland's a big city with no heart, Hamilton is New Zealand's Canberra and cities in the South are just so damn cold and bitter. Wellington has the best of everything IMO and the most entertaining rugby team. 😁

  • Definitely no insecurity on display here.

  • TBH you can shove city living, nice for a visit but that's about it

  • Wellington = Palmy North with a bay

  • It's still a city, give me an RD postcode anyday....

  • @Canes4life said in Hurricanes vs Crusaders:

I'll just leave this here. https://i.stuff.co.nz/dominion-post/capital-life/104217247/wellington-named-most-liveable-city-for-second-year-running

"The rankings look at purchasing power, safety, health care, cost of living, property price to income ratios, traffic commutes and pollution."

Helps when they don't include the weather. Finland regularly features at the top of these things, but fucked if I'd want to live there.

  • @Machpants well, where-ever you are, that double sided ladder to nowhere looks extremely useful and in no way representative of an RD post code....

What explanation do you need? I don't think I kept a journal from my holiday in 1990. I recall it rained most of the time and every train station into Wellington was covered in graffiti.
