Football Internationals

  • There is a team playing in white with the cross of St George that I thought was England but they have scored ten goals in two games...

    Outstanding!

Tea And Biscuits currently have them at $10 to win 2022 world cup! GET ON!!!!

They looked good vs Croatia. Coach is doing a good job

He really seems to be, that is for sure. Some handy players in the squad too which helps

Many of these young lads are very confident on the ball. Sterling is in outstanding form too. They could do with a central playmaker but most teams in the world lack that. Their toughest opponent at the euros will be their own media and supporters!

  • Opposition hasn't been great but Southgate is backing the many young, talented players he has and frightening the opposition defenders - scoring goals is a good way to mask problems elsewhere on the pitch. Looks like Holland and Germany are going the same way with their young stars so it could be a golden era of international football ....

  • England lose (and are knocked out) in their first knockout game of the Nations League (the semi-finals stage).

They really are bad at knockout football.

Haven't beaten a good / or evenly matched team in a knockout match since 1966.

What is their best performance in the last 53 years in a knockout match?

    • a 0-0 draw and advancing on penalties in Euro 96 1/4 final v Spain?
    • a 1-1 draw v Columbia in 2018 world cup in round of 16 and advancing on penalties?
    • an actual 1-0 victory in 1990 world cup round of 16 v Belgium (good Belgium era of Scifo, Clelemans, Preud'homme)?

    That's some slim pickings.

Coming back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 against the Cameroons in the quarters of 1990?

Southgate didn't start with any Liverpool or Spurs players as the UCL final was only 5 nights before which made the starting midfield especially look a bit patchy - Rice, Delph and Barkley. Haven't seen any of the game though but that Dutch team is building nicely with Virgil and the Ajax kids.

  • I expect Portuagl to win the final, but I'm stoked about this result!

The fact that they were 0-2 down to Cameroon just about sums them up.

Roger Milla and all that. But come on. I considered it (And the Sweden 1/4 final in 2018 and the Paraguary round of 16 in 1986) but then dismissed them for consideration as the opposition weren't a "good / or evenly matched" team.
