TSF NPC Tipping 2019

  • @taniwharugby You might have stumbled onto something as Nevorian is showing as having tipped both Southland and Auckland 17+ which has all the hallmarks of being an error somewhere along the line. I was specifically referring to their selection of the Steamers to beat The Bay!

  • @Higgins
    edit
I see what it has done...It has the current tipping week at the top of the spreadsheet, but has our tips form every single week, and defaults to Week 1 at the top, but still with current week teams in the top bar.

  • @taniwharugby
@taniwharugby No I have got the returns spreadsheet showing the following from cell G324 down

Game 3: Home 1-8 (Booo Hisss!)
    Game 4: Home 17+

Game 6: Home 1-8 (Otago to retain Shield)
    Game 7: Home 1-8
    Highest: Wellington
    Lowest: Northland
Maybe you did something to your copy of the returns spreadsheet. I know I accidentally copied and pasted something by accident and that resulted in a permanent change in my copy no matter how many times I refreshed it. Incidentally KP has recorded you as ten points for last night so his data has not been compromised.

  • @Higgins see my edited post above, I can see what has happened.

I didnt realise the tipped spreadsheet had all the tips form Week 1 on it, while just the Matches each week changing

  • @taniwharugby All good.
Looks like a real battle between yours truly and Justin77 in the Cup Final with pretty much identical tips with the exception of the BoP V HB game so it looks like whoever is victorious in that match will determine where the Cup ends up.

  • @KiwiPie said in TSF NPC Tipping 2019:

After one game and you already have 5 more points to add on if you picked Southland as the low scorers.

    Or Auckland ....

  • @KiwiPie with the high probability of a 3rd team sitting on a donut at the end of this round, I wonder if that is some kind of 'record'?

Were you thinking it would be Northland? Counties almost did it but failed - which annoyed me as I had them as low scorer.

  • It is all big home wins so far - plenty with 5 from 5 and Hydro11 the best score with 45.

    Play-offs Wellington 37 - 31 South Island
    Wairarapa Bush 36 - 36 Hawke's Bay

    Plate Northland 36 - 26 Harbour-Auckland
    Counties-Waikato 27 - 30 BOP

    Justin77 32 v 35 Higgins

    Name 8 Total
    Bay Imports 37 350
    Winger 40 349
    Propsicle 40 344
    Canes4life 27 343
    Victor 35 337
    Stargazer 30 334
    Donsteppa 37 329
    Number 10 42 329
    Higgins 35 328
    Hooroo 40 327
    Buck 32 327

  • @KiwiPie I would never...

  • All scores on doors updated at https://www.thesilverfern.com/tipping/ Just 2 more weeks then you can kick back for summer.

Best of the weekend was FarNthHayden with an excellent 64 on a weekend when the margins tended to blow out unexpectedly. He picked both category picks for an extra 10 as did Hydro11 who was 2nd with 62. FarNthHayden picked 7 from 7 results, one of only 4 to do it, the others were Justin77, Gunner and Dogmeat - who still managed to be in the bottom half for scores without a single margin picked.

Overall, it is tighter than ever at the top and we're set for a close finish. Propsicle now shares the lead with Winger by a single point from Bay Imports - but TR down in 14th is only 19 off the lead so one good week can get any of the top 14 into contention.

The play-offs all went to form and so it is the top 2 on the table, Wellington and Wairarapa Bush in the 2-legged final starting this weekend. Wellington were comfortable against the South Island but the Bush won by just a point from Hawke's Bay. Northland had the highest score to easily beat Harbour-Auckland who played a player short as did BOP who lost narrowly to Counties-Waikato.

Higgins won the TSF Cup by just 3 points from Justin77 - in the end it came down to margins with J77 unable to nail enough of those home team blowouts.

  • Penultimate* week for tipping - you know what to do

    https://www.thesilverfern.com/tipping-submit

    • this means you have to tip next week as well

  • top scorer this week looks easy...

  • FFS - forgot to do my picks before the first game ....

  • @Number-10 Just get them done anyway as our opponents look to have fronted up a couple short for tonight as well so not all is lost yet.

  • Wellington 8 - 8 Wairarapa Bush
    Hawke's Bay 9 - 5 South Island
    Northland 7 - 9 Counties-Waikato
    BOP 7 - 3 Harbour-Auckland

    Winger 10 366
    Bay Imports 10 365
    Propsicle 7 363
    Higgins 10 357
    Buck 10 356
    Victor 7 356
    Canes4life 7 355
    Hooroo 10 352
    Justin77 7 352
    Plastered Peni 10 350

  • Good start team in our bid to go through the entire season unvictorious. Keep up the bad work.

    Gold!

  • FarNthHayden has the best score so far - 44/50.

    Wellington 35 - 34 Wairarapa Bush
    Hawke's Bay 31 - 28 South Island
    Northland 31 - 27 Counties-Waikato
    BOP 29 - 24 Harbour-Auckland

    Winger 40 396
    Bay Imports 37 392
    Propsicle 34 390
    Victor 36 385
    Buck 37 383
    Hooroo 37 379
    Higgins 32 379
    Canes4life 31 379
    Stargazer 37 376
    Plastered Peni 32 372

  • Just a week to go and Winger takes a 2 point lead into it with Bay Imports in 2nd and he is 4 ahead of Propsicle and Victor. Hooroo and Higgins are 4 further back and maybe it is too much ground for anyone below these to make up. Best for th weekend were Hooroo, Hydro11, FarNthHayden & Caprice with 59 points although their gain was not great as 21 people scored 50 or more. FNH was the only picker to get 7 from 7 but didn't get a category pick.

If next week is that predictable, it will come down to margins and those category picks to decide the winner.

The first leg scores were also predictable with the top seeds all winning. Wellington take just a point advantage into the 2nd game while the other leads are more comfortable.

    Wellington 53 - 52 Wairarapa Bush
    Hawke's Bay 48 - 44 South Island
    Northland 49 - 40 Counties-Waikato
    BOP 47 - 44 Harbour-Auckland

  • Get your tips in for the grand finale. All to play for with Wellington having a single point lead over the Bush and Winger a 2 point lead on Bay Imports.

For other bragging rights awards Stagazer and Winger lead the "most margins tipped" ahead of Tim and Hydro11 by 1.

Most results picked is a 5 way tie with Bay Imports, Buck, Victor, Canes4life and Winger - 77% success.

    https://www.thesilverfern.com/tipping-submit

  • @KiwiPie And most 50+s is lead by (drum roll please) HIggins!

  • Not much change at the top as all of the top 10 missed the 9-16 margin ... except Hooroo who is now only 7 off the lead although still back in 5th. The Bush draw level with Wellington in the final. All the leaders went BOP as top scorers (very unlikely) and Southland as low scorers (still possible) so that won't change much in the table.

    Wellington 7 - 8 Wairarapa Bush
    Hawke's Bay 6 - 7 South Island
    Northland 8 - 9 Counties-Waikato
    BOP 6 - 3 Harbour-Auckland

    Wellington 60 - 60 Wairarapa Bush
    Hawke's Bay 54 - 51 South Island
    Northland 57 - 49 Counties-Waikato
    BOP 53 - 47 Harbour-Auckland

    Name 10 Total
    Winger 7 418
    Bay Imports 7 416
    Propsicle 7 412
    Victor 7 412
    Hooroo 10 411
    Higgins 7 408
    Buck 7 405
    Stargazer 7 403
    Canes4life 7 401
    Tim 7 398

  • Sorry my picks are 2 days late I have already picked Southland as I’m too late I haven’t checked the score for the game currently on so feel free to deduct my points if I pick the winning team

  • @mikey07 Yep usual rules apply. Zero points if your tips miss the games.

  • Wellington 13 - 13 Wairarapa Bush
    Hawke's Bay 12 - 9 South Island
    Northland 11 - 14 Counties-Waikato

Ive just checked. We also both went for BOP High Southland Low

And its an unusual situation for me. Wanting Canterbury to win well.

  • Good luck @Winger it’s been a close comp !

  • And after the closest finish in many years, they can't be split. Bay Imports gets 7 from the final game to Winger's 5 and they share the trophy. Wairarapa Bush overturn their first leg deficit to win by a point from Wellington, well done to that team. Full update tomorrow.

    Hawke's Bay 40 - 36 South Island
    Northland 42 - 42 Counties-Waikato
    BOP 41 - 25 Harbour-Auckland

    Winger 43 454
    Victor 40 445

    Higgins 40 441

Come on KP, here’s your chance to pick something completely arbitrary like who got their selections in the earliest each week or number of correct 1-8 margin selections - to decide a single winner.

  • Wait I found something in the small print ....

In the event of a tie, the player who plays on the same team as the organiser of the competition will be declared the winner.

    Well done @bayimports. Deserved!

  • Here's the final, final update - everything is updated on the website now.

In the final weekend, Winger was actually the champion as the clock ticked past 80 minutes in the final game. If Harbour could have held on, there would have been no points awarded and he would have won by 2. However it was not to be and he has to share the trophy with Bay Imports - it has happened before as you no doubt recall, the NPC tipping trophy was shared by Higgins, Donsteppa and myself back in 2008. Victor joined them on the podium in 3rd.

In the final weekend, only Sportboy picked 7/7 bravely backing the Taniwha to win - he was beaten for top score by FarNthHayden who had Tasman as the high scorers.

Wairarapa Bush also left it late to beat Wellington by just a point in the final. They did it with consistency, every scoring player getting between 38 and 42 - Wellington had to count a pair of 34s and that was the difference.

See you all again in 3 months or so when it will be time to register for Super Rugby tipping 2020.

    Brilliant!!!!

  • Thanks KP (and Duluth?) for another outstandingly run competition. It's always fun (Ive only missed one) even when I do poorly. Like the last super competition where I was poor almost every week. Shame Wellington missed out (its a bit like the team) but well done to Wairarapa-Bush.

  • @KiwiPie thanks again KP, super comp.
