TSF Team of the Decade

  • Thanks to @dK for the idea

@dK said in TSF Team of the Year: Vote Now:

How about a Team of the Decade - All Blacks v All Comers. If I new how to work polls I could probably set one up, otherwise I will leave it to the more technically inclined

Nominations are open in this sub forum

We'll collect names until Dec 31st and then run the polls in the new year

Once again players will only be up for one position each. We can discuss who goes where later (there'll be another thread where people can make their arguments)

  • Top work @Duluth

Given the success of the ABs over the decade I don't think we have to be embarrassed about nominating NZers like we were for the TOTY ...

  • Just name the AB 2015 team and be done with it

  • @mariner4life said in TSF Team of the Decade:

Just name the AB 2015 team and be done with it

Yep. We can argue over the foreigners though.

  • This is the first Test of the decade v Ireland

Israel Dagg; Cory Jane, Conrad Smith, Benson Stanley, Joe Rokocoko; Daniel Carter, Jimmy Cowan; Ben Franks, Keven Mealamu, Owen Franks, Brad Thorn, Anthony Boric, Jerome Kaino, Richie McCaw (capt), Kieran Read.
Reserves: Guildford, Cruden, Weepu, Tialata, de Malmanche, Whitelock, Vito

Just a reminder in case anyone forgot to nominate Benson or de Malmanche

  • man some names in there...always rated Boric too.

  • @taniwharugby said in TSF Team of the Decade:

    always rated Boric too.

Yeah. Was a career sadly cut short.

@Duluth piss taking aside re two of the lesser names in the team the rest are pretty good. Well...Guildford...

  • In an attempt to assist below are the TSF Teams of the Year we ran this decade.

I'll apologise for 2014 (I forgot to collate the winners... oops ... and not sure we still have the poll results).

Have up after 2016 as it had gone stale, so many thanks to @Duluth for reviving.

  • Just throwing my 2c worth in again ... I'm noticing a number of nominations from the AB class of 2011.

I brought that up with @taniwharugby about Mils (and I'm a huge Mils fan - at his best I reckon he was better than Cullen) but his best years were in the 00s, and (repeating myself here) he struggled his way into the '11 team, so I'm wondering how one good year (2010) qualifies him for consideration in a team of the decade.

Similar with Andrew H0re - who was second fiddle to Kev through 2010 and 2011 then retired.

And BBBT - awesome 2010 an 2011 - but two years only as opposed to Sam Whitelock, who's dominated for 10 years, and BBBR who's been there for eight.

Just wondering why we're nominating when they have no chance of winning (well, at least shouldn't).

My question is were they so indisputably dominant during the two (or one) year(s) they were active that they a serious contenders for "(Insert Position) of the Decade"?

EDIT: I'm thinking there are some noms based on our memories that stretch back further than 10 years.

    Discuss.

  • so I'm wondering how one good year (2010) qualifies him for consideration in a team of the decade.

@booboo someone nominated Nehe for 2015...

    That is, unfortunately, ridiculous.

  • @booboo at the end of the day, these are merely nominations...people get one vote, so will likely vote elsewhere anyway.

  • @booboo @taniwharugby But, but - how good was he in 2015, and how much could we have done with him this year? I rewatched the 2015 RWC Final recently and his 1st half (in particular) was an exceptional 40mins of footie.

His last name isn't Barrett, he wouldn't have got a gig

Apart from Thorn in instead of Whitelock, as Thorn was only for a year and the decision for Beady at 15, Ben on RW - pretty much right. I can see Bender on RW as that has been not to the quality of Left wing, or Fullback. So happy with that set up

  • BBC Sport have been running a poll

They have two teams the readers and the Rugby Weekly experts (Ugo Monye, Danny Care and Chris Jones)

    https://www.bbc.com/sport/rugby-union/50840365

    Some baffling picks

Without looking baffling picks of British players?

    EDIT: Richie in 6 LOL

  • Farrell over Nonu, yeah right.

  • @Machpants That was one - McAwe at 6....

Carter won. I agree as he was a better 'player', where as McCaw was a better team member with his leadership.

  • @Machpants Agree with the final decision but some interesting choices along the way namely Parisse over Retallick and Pocock over Jones

  • @dogmeat said in TSF Team of the Decade:

    Yeah and Barrett over Nonu

    Probably doesn't need further explanation.

  • I'll whack it in here, a trip down memory lane

They got this wrong tho: 2018
"All Blacks 9 Ireland 16, Dublin
Fun fact: The win moved Ireland to number one in the world."

Ozzie version not so nicely headlined

  • @Machpants said in TSF Team of the Decade:

    Farrell over Nonu, yeah right.

I'm staggered at how so many people seem to have under-rated Conrad Smith.

He's way up there with the likes of Tim Horan, Maso & co.

  • @Duluth said in TSF Team of the Decade:

Polls will be sometime next week

Some players positions need top be confirmed:
    https://www.forum.thesilverfern.com/topic/3683/totd-which-position

Also we are a bit light on foreign names for: Locks, Props, 12 & Wings

Also lacking Aussies which may be accurate

    Thanks

  • @Duluth said in TSF Team of the Decade:

Polls will be sometime next week

    Liar!

I forgot about this.. will add the polls soon

  • Polls for the AB's have been added. I will add the foreigners later

Note there is no poll for tighthead or number 8. That is because there was only one nomination for those positions.

I know some of the other votes will be very one sided (7 and 10) but at least there's good players up for the nomination (Cane, B Barrett)

The other options at 8 and 3 were not credible

i expect every vote bar maybe right wing to be incredibly one-sided.

  • @mariner4life i.e. 2015 RWC final starting 15 with Cory Jane looking to unseat Nehe

edit - forgot the cock didn't make it to the Final. Can't have an AB team without a Harbour rep. It's why we lost last year...

  • I’ll post the results on Tues. Voting will stay open until then
