NRL 2020

  • 2020 arrives, and the NRL is not far away.

Latrell Mitchell is still looking for a club, and his water-testing could end up being one of the worst personal moves in the history of rugby league. It's starting to look like the Rabbits will get him for fuck all.

I just read a preview article where they tried to predict the Round 1 teams for each club. It's a pretty open looking season on paper, with some good teams coming together. And then you get to the Warriors

The Warriors were shit last year, so they did the only thing possible, and added no one. Exactly like last year, numbers 1,2 and 5 look great. Everything else looks NSW cup standard. So i hope the back 3 had a good rest over summer, and kept their shoulders strong.

I guess it's just lucky we have great coaches who will have spent the summer making our players better than they were last season.

On paper, i am picking the Cowboys to climb the table, along with the Eels, while it may finally be the year the Storm drop out of the top 4.

  • It’s our year, it’s our time, it’s our destiny. Warriors to make the top 8.

  • fittest we've ever been etc

  • Where is @Sneakdefreak preseason monologue?
Surely he hasn't given up the ghost?

it's a bit early. Round 1 is two months away

I thought we used to get it as a Christmas Cracker joke?

  • Isaac Luke will no doubt have a blinder this year, at the Dragons...

As for the Warriors still actually at the Warriors Tohu Harris is the player we need to stand up. If he can wrest the pack away from Blair and take ownership of the forwards we'll have a chance at coming maybe 11th or 10th...

I gave up on them last year and stopped commenting. This year I'm back but with a new outlook. Fuck this hope and keep the faith shit. I'm expecting the wooden spoon and anything that happens better than that is a bonus.

That's the spirit. It's the hope that kills you

  • @raznomore if we are going to lose, can we at least be fun to watch? I'll take that trade off. Go 10-14 with an average score of 32-26 i would take.

And so i went to last year's ladder to see what it was last year. Average score was 24-18. Gee we don't score a lot do we?

So i had a closer look. That average points scored for teams finishing 3-8 on the ladder was 21 a game (the runaway top 2 averaged 26). It astounds me that the dedicated league heads still crap on about the entertainment in their game.

  • @mariner4life I miss the ball playing. Every now and then we a see glimpses like last seasons try of the year. You have to admit that when Johnson left he took a whole lot of fun with him. Also, we really miss his pinpoint cross-field kicks to Fus and Ken.

  • Te Maire Martin forced to retire immediately

  • @mariner4life said in NRL 2020:

Te Maire Martin forced to retire immediately

Yeah a real shame for him, at just 24 years of age his best footy was still in front of him. This has been on the cards for a while though given the nature of his injury. Just shows that the careers of professional athletes who play contact sports can be very tenuous, and end in an instant.

  • Latrell Mitchell signs with Souths to play fullback. These big long contracts followed by retirements are really paying off for Souths.

  • @mariner4life I rate him and he does have an engine for a lad his size... but I wonder if FB might tax him a bit too much? Maybe he'll cut a bit of weight? or he'll truck on as is and set the world on fire. It is the NRL after all!

  • well i for one am feeling a lot better about 2020 after reading an interview with Kearney. He knows exactly what's up, and how to fix it

"We just need to be better," says Kearney. "We weren't at our best for parts of the year, and it showed with those losses and the draw"

shit! he's hit the nail square on the head there. Bra-fucking-vo Stephen.

  • I remain astonished how obviously poor coaches get to remain employed, moving from club to club like musical chairs. But someone forgot to take a seat away while the music plays.

his record at Parra is appalling!! 10-1-31. At the Warriors is slightly better at 31-1-41. I guess he is getting in because the Kiwis beat the Aussies a few times

Someone has been at his wiki 🤣 🤣 🤣

"During the ongoing 2019 season Kearney has earned the name Stephen Cryney due to repeated rants about refereeing instead of fronting up and admitting his team is bad and he can't actually coach."

A revolutionary change from “fitter than we’ve ever been before”. Truely momentous days at Mount Smart.

  • Mose Masoe - took a pretty routine injury and underwent surgery to release pressure on his spine. Complications mean he may never walk again.

Mose is from my high school and rugby league club in Wellington. I don't remember him as he was 10 years behind me but by all accounts, he was always going to be a professional rugby league player. He had it factor and contrary to reports I've heard about his work ethic he was apparently putting guys to shame who were near twice his age down at Naenae park at training every week.

While he will never play again here's hoping he overcomes this and regains full use of his body.

    i read that story, terrible

  • Josh Reynolds is ready for execution in the court of public opinion, as a video of him losing his shit is circulated.

Of course, it was taken by the person he was losing it at, and there is zero context offered. It kinda stinks like a giant set up.

  • @mariner4life It's hard to know what's going on but he goes on about her treating him like a crim and barging into the house. My assumption is that this is his Mrs or ex Mrs and shes tried to catch him cheating etc and she's failed. He's then gone nuts at her for being a psycho.

That's what I reckon. But no doubt he's just been caught molesting a duck while taking a shit in their baby's car seat as Ricky Stuart's dog licks his balls and he's got Mark Geyers nan in the next room, tied to the bed.

  • @raznomore Or as its' known in the NRL, Friday.

  • Couple of the chicks in the St George women's 9s team were actually hot. A few nice asses and legs on display

    Cowboys won the men's apparently

oh look, all charges dropped amid numerous revelations of fake pregnancies, aliases, faking having cancer, and generally being a complete psycho

  • Im happy Im old enough to get this very apt gif

  • Just saw Stephen Kearney, super coach, has decided that Fusitua, the best corner flag winger in the game, should move to centre.

  • @raznomore said in NRL 2020:

he's putting a backrower on the wing, to better fit the gameplan of the back 3 taking the first 4 hitups.

  • @mariner4life makes sense. So the sooner we get Bunty at fullback and Ah Mau on the other wing the better.

  • ffs. Nobody puts Fus at centre. Nobody!!

    except fucking Kearn-Dawg

If it works great. If not I hope it gets him fired fast!

  • If hes worried about getting him some ball just put him the front row. Ffs why do we always feel like a makeshift squad.

  • @Paekakboyz said in NRL 2020:

he may end up there, given the lack of a prop rotation

Props don't touch the ball anyway. it's RTS, then 1 or 2 each by the wingers, then Tevaga dying with the ball, then maybe a prop. then a "long" kick from our own 40.

I don't usually enter the season with expectation, but this year feels even lower than usual. The feel around any fans i have seen online is one of bottomless pessimism

  • It would feel wrong to have great expectations about a warriors season. “Keeping the faith” is a long forgotten mantra or at least any unbelievable type of one. I think, that a quarter of a century of following this c@nt of a team we can be honest with our pre season assessments now.

It’s going to suck. If its better than sucking it’s a bonus. I think we are good for 8-10 games. I expect some players will be released and go on to teams where they are challenged to be better. They’ll be better and win accolades for great lay if not premierships.

We’ll pin our hopes to RTS. He’ll deliver what he can. He will pull us over the line like only he can. When he eventually submits to the pressure of carrying 8-10 useless over paid and under coached players on his back by either leaving or injuring himself we’ll pin our hopes to some kid that is underdone but has an amazing goosie.

We’ll wonder if there maybe are too many islanders. Maybe we need more aussies. Maybe we need a more Polynesian, Polynesian coach than the one we have. One that wears a lava lava. Maybe we need Wayne Bennett or Craig Bellamy. Maybe both. Maybe we need Ardie or even Julian. Fuck knows really, what’s needed at this club but I’m pretty sure we don’t need Kearney.

  • Shared a flight with the Warriors a few days ago, have to say they were physically prettyul unimpressive. Not unfit, just not that imposing.
Seemed very polite chaps though, so I'm sure they'll go well...

As an aside, I love the strict weight restrictions on cabin baggage when they then go and book all the seats bar 4 to a bunch of 100kg dudes. Guess we were balanced at least

  • The new NRL ad is really good, i like it.
