Do negatives - will help a lot. Don't be afraid to cheat into the last couple of reps too.<br />

The main thing, like pushups, is doing them regularly. I can build up to a starting set of 7 or 8 if I'm doing them a couple of times a week, but take a week off and I'm back to 4-5 -

Its a pretty common criticism of Crossfit. We do different types of pullups to achieve different goals. <br /><br />We use strict and weighted strict pull ups to build strength. We use kipping and butterfly pull ups to get our chins over the bar. <br /><br />The kip allows for you that far more times (my ratio of strict to kipping is 10/25). It would take a long time to do 45 strict, and I wouldn't be able to maintain any intensity. <br /><br />Its the combination of movements that improves the fitness and all that, so standing around looking the bars isn't helping me. <br /><br />The kip also translates directly into the Oly lifts with the hip thrust. <br /><br />Also, kipping pull ups are still hard, its not uncommon to have to a 100 of the things in a WOD. It hurts.

Only problem with those doorway ones is your legs won't be straight for a full hang and makes them feel slightly awkward....unless of course you have high doors in which case, as you were -

I don't think they'd be tall enough. Maybe for negatives they'd be ok.

I don't have anywhere to do proper pull ups at moment, which is a nuisance, but the ones I can do I make sure they hurt....

<p>I don't go to cross-fit, but do cross-fit style workouts (get a great hard workout in a short time) I don't do it against the clock, just do exercises and ensure I do them with as good a technique I can.</p> -
<p>Haven't read the majority of this thread but yeah, Crossfit seems to be a complete joke to bodybuilders and powerlifters for some reason. Some Crossfit type exercises I can do fairly easily, others are a fucken struggle but it's completely unfair for others to "diss" it so much in my opinion.</p>

<p>I'm a bit like TR in that I do what I feel works, some days smash tin, others do some bodyweight stuff, I'm all about keeping things mixed up and fresh. I've probably benched about half a dozen times this year but yet down to weighted dips and push up variations I really do feel stronger in the upper body than ever right at the moment.</p> -

<p>Yeah, she has some weird movement issues (why is she doing rope climbs like that?). She's just not that exceptional, and probably thinks she is. There are two women at my gym that would clean her up.</p>

<p>Not understanding why she's down on dead lifts as well, that's a pretty standard movement in or out of crossfit.</p> -

<p>The criticism from weightlifters is the weird one. Since Crossfit has taken off their participation number has skyrocketed. A top Crossfiter has just quit to become an Olympic weightlifter, it's good for their sport to have people cleaning, snatching, etc</p>
