Meatless BK Burger

  • A guy at work went out and purchased a few for us to try today.

We all had half a burger. You could tell it wasn't meat but it was not unpleasant until about 15 mins later where everyone had a horrible after-taste in their mouth.

    Avoid.

Off to get a coffee to try and be rid of the taste

  • @Hooroo I don't think you are going to get much sympathy around here. You probably didn't need to give the "avoid" advice either, but duly noted.

Wasn't after sympathy, was merely doing a community service.....

  • I'm only interested in trying the "Impossible" burger, which sounds better than the others.

Thanks for taking the hit. Even though I wasn't ever planning to eat one. If I'm going to eat a vege burger the least they could do is not make it pretend to be meat

I'd probably try this eggplant parmigiana burger if it was offered, for example

Describe? Is it a chilli burger?

  • @Hooroo It has a myoglobin like protein that makes it "bleed" like meat and gives it the iron flavour of beef.

Well I do feel slightly sorry for you that you even tried it.

This. My wife gets the vege burger from our local all the time, its a stack of mushrooms, beetroot, tomato, and other vege, and really pretty good. Way better than a bunch of minced legumes and lentils pretending to be something that they are not.

Or worse still a list of 'ingredients' that sound like a chemistry book and play havoc with your gut.

Nothing wrong in having a meatless meal, but it is entirely possible to make one simply out of real food.

That Egglant Parma one above looks alright. I'd eat that.

  • I have a couple of friends, proper meat eaters who love these burgers - they prefer the Burgers and Ribs version but will eat BK if that's all that's available.

I've had a bite of one, but I'll never eat a whole one!

I read the BK burger is absolutely loaded with estrogen, is there any truth to that? Guys are scared they'll grow tits if they eat too many

    Fuck I'll say.

Also, isn't the whole thing about being Vegan is because you have so much empathy for animals? Why then would you want to make your food look like a dead animal?

Haven't you answered your own question? It's about empathy towards animals not about disliking the taste of meat

  • @No-Quarter said in Meatless BK Burger:

The radical, outspoken nut jobs generally have that as their motivation I think, but a lot more people are going to plant based diets for health reasons (whether you believe it is healthier or not is personal choice and depends on what you read). I have found these types to be quite rational as they are doing it because they want to, for themselves, and don't preach.

  • I've been disturbed by the rise of low and no alcohol beers which I suspect are made for people who secretly just like to pee a lot but this is so so so much worse.

Once they are in your freezer they don't , so do vegans taste healthier?

  • @jegga I prefer my meat to eat meat. It's a moral standpoint - although there have been a few rabid vegans that I would have liked to remove from existence.

    I barely tolerate fake blondes.

If I want something that looks, smells and tastes like meat, I eat meat.

If BK can make a Whopper that tastes great without meat, I'm happy to try it for the apparent health benefits.

May have been but as business class you have a choice of what to eat and it certainly wouldnt have been a fake burger

  • There was a woman on the radio today touting chicken free chicken and bacon free bacon from these guys:

    https://sunfedfoods.com/

Whatever the pros and cons there was one thing that caught my ear. She said that they had IP for ( I think I’m getting this right) converting the proteins into long string proteins to give us a meaty texture that tears. I’m not sure how true that is but any chemists can probably critique it.

But the thing that really irked me was the announcer woman let her off with a claim that this stuff isn’t processed, because by “processed“ people mean things done to take the goodness away. Now that’s some smelly bullshit. Processed means you do something to change the natural state of it. Which makes this processed. It doesn’t mean it’s any worse, and to be honest I don’t think even the most dubious food manufacturer starts out with the intention of making food that tastes worse and will fuck up people’s health.

But it is processed and I don’t think these manufacturers should get away with claiming it is natural just because it’s sourced from a plant. Because so are Twinkies.

  • @JC said in Meatless BK Burger:

    It's processed.

But actually, the chicken free chicken is really good. And frankly, probably the carbon free future I suspect. I'd try their new ones ...

Used to fully agree. Now ...

Greggs in the UK has launched a vegan sausage roll which I’m kind of curious about ...

  • @MajorRage Most of their stuff is pretty much meat free... going by the taste alone.

I used to love their steak and cheese rolls, closest you could get to a BP pie. They fucken replaced them with the vegan roll.

I must say I do like me a falafel burger... although I do like to fuck with people and add bacon to it.

That echoes my mate Branchy “I’ve had some lovely vegetarian meals and I just pop a pork chop on top as a garnish”.

  • @Catogrande he could go full vego and put a chicken breast on top instead.

    Wait a minute ... replace?

I've not been in Greggs for a while ... are you suggesting that some of their core pikey-enticing menu has been replaced for the man-bun crowd?

EDIT: Went on their website .. they are still advertising it there so should still be available. I also noted that you can get a personalised gift card for you loved one for Greggs. Reckon I know what Mrs Rage is getting now ... Thanks to TSF again!

  • Greg's CE is a vegan, I think

  • @MajorRage you got my hopes up AND you made me go on their website! To be honest I'd never even considered they might have one. Funny.

Anyway, steak and cheese roll is absent.

Right. I was looking at their nutrition tables.
