It’s all about perception. Vic Government don’t want to allow them in yet, not because they pose a threat or risk but because they think it’s not a great look if Victorians aren’t allowed to move around under the current restrictions.
It’s garbage in my view.
If people want to come to Melbourne, good on them. You’ve got 5km radius to travel and if you like Maccas and Woolworths, it’s your town.
The thing is Melbournians can leave and travel to Sydney, Canberra, they just have to self isolate for 14 days. And then on return they can just go about their business
That's not strictly correct, only NSWelsh people can just get up and travel to NSW, Victorians need a permit (and the hotel isolation).

@taniwharugby classic that VIC would deny them
I thought they were only worried about victorians getting out
Victoria is a State run by imbeciles. It's no wonder they're surprised and confused by visitors.
This is not untrue, but they have increasingly steered away from "imbecilic behaviour " into "wilful destruction". Its pretty fucked.

I can travel to Sydney for “work”, but stay as long as I like just have to do the self iso in a hotel.

Yeah, but you have a specific work reason, most people don't - FYI my company can't bring any of our staff in.

I have enough difficulty moving staff within Victoria let alone interstate.

Dan still has a 60%ish approval rating...so more than a few
Its amazing. Even the new looser rules seem so unnecessarily far away. Its a staggering amount of control he has exuded.

Yeah, definitely send him home. Although I wonder if he's an Oz citizen? I was reading a new story in the online version of an Oz paper talking about a NZer who travelled on to Melbourne and right at the end of the article they explained she was an Australian (and not even a NZer with Oz citizenship, just an Aussie who lives in Chch).

TBH, she didn't actually do anything wrong ... there were no restrictions on travelling through to Melbourne, or there might be but the Feds, the states, and the airlines can't seem to organise a Zoom meeting to discuss it.
I assume she checked about returning to NZ after this trip (so maybe an NZ citizen too) so is she any worse than any other person returning to NZ from a covid hotspot (as long as she's quarantines when she's back)?
-
ZERO new cases reported today in Victoria....and a huge easing of restrictions starting immediately in some cases, awesome news
-
@Kiwiwomble loved the first question to Dan Andrews
"can I confirm, what you're saying is, is that we can finally get back on the beers?"
-
@KiwiMurph his answer was pretty good too
"i dont think i'll be having a beer, probably something from a higher shelf"
might join him
-
@KiwiMurph i'm convinced he's not going to run again, and thats why he's been so strict, nothing to loose as it were, hope he becomes a booze spokesman after politics
edit: its already started....

There are no restrictions flying domestically into Melbourne. This has been the case all the way through the pandemic. Victoria reached a deal with the Federal Govt that it wouldn’t take any international flights into Melbourne.
Victorian Government tried to make a song and a dance about the NZ bubble and people flying into Melbourne but if they didn’t want that then they should’ve shut their border or just not make an issue of it.
People who come to Melbourne just have to comply with the laws and health orders.
I know people who have come from interstate and moved in with family here so they can be with them during all the restrictions
