Canterbury v Otago
-
i'd love if we could grab a win and Canterbury arent exactly firing on all cylinders this year...but we always find winning in chch tough
-
2005 is a long time ago since Otago won in Chch, and that was a SF.
-
Some beaut games this weekend, this one and Auckland v Waikato (I think Auckland are at home)
The way Canterbury got tuned up in Tauranga, you would have to think they will be like a cornered animal this weekend? especially at home. Is that three losses in a row for them?
-
@Bovidae yeah, not going to set my sites too high, a bonus point or two would be nice
we've had three wins on the trot so could be time for a reality check
-
The cat is already among the Canterbury pigeons.
If they lose to Otago, that cat will be armed with a blunderbuss!
Mind you, I'm not actually laughing yet. I don't think anyone is yet safe from the drop.
-
@Bovidae Virtually won Auckland the title that year. We wouldn't have beat Canterbury in the final otherwise.
No reason why Otago can't win. This Canterbury team is awful, so if they're gonna get a win in Chch, this is the perfect time to do it.
-
@Kiwiwomble Otago have a tough run in, with Canterbury, Southland in Invers and then Tasman in Dunedin, I reckon Southland have a nice run in to make the top 4.
-
@taniwharugby yeah, we need to take the same approach as you might during a tight game, take the points on offer
if we play it safe, dont throw the ball around too much, try and keep close to these teams, make them work for it, just try and secure the playoffs
-
Are these Canterbury coaches picking the best players out of club rugby? That was a major complaint about Auckland in 2017, and the 2018 coaches reversed that tendency and won the competition.
-
@Tim i hope they keep doing whatever they did last week

From his comments, Dale MacLeod is targeting their last 3 games by resting so many players against Tasman.
-
Donโt choke Otago...
Massive week for this young Canterbury side to try and bounce back from a good old fashion pasting.
Would love to see a couple of combinations improve.
-
Sink or swim now for the Canterbury boys 8 from last years u/19 Canterbury team losing their way.
I am not that impressed with the Canterbury coaching team they look lost at the moment.
-
Vilimoni Koroi, Freedom Vahaakolo, Josh Timu, Sio Tomkinson, Jona Nareki, Josh Ioane, Kayne Hammington, Nasi Manu, Slade McDowall, Sam Fischli, Josh Dickson, Will Tucker, Josh Hohneck, Liam Coltman, Jamie Mackintosh. Reserves: Ricky Jackson, Jonah Aoina, Hisa Sasagi, Jack Regan, Sione Misiloi, James Arscott, Michael Collins, Charles Elton.
everyone back avaliable, giving some of the guys a run off the bench, dont know if its a rest of an attempt to finish strong, not sure on Captain, coltman probably
-
Is Dylan Nel injured or just being rested? I'm not familiar with Sam Fischli, any good?

like Hickey i think it must just be rest, he's had a big workload and now with Slade back he can take a break, unconfirmed though
no idea on Fischli
-
Bench only has seven players?
-
Brodie McAlister returns from injury for the first time this season, while tighthead prop Oli Jager is also back.
Both openside specialists Tom Christie and Billy Harmon starts, pushing Prinsep to No 8.

Shilo Klein missing from the list at 16

Looks like he has to start when there is no room on the bench for him.
-
@Buff
Jeez that's a poor Canterbury side.
-
Tomkinson hasn't been working on his passing during suspension going by that effort.
-
Nareki...
-
Good start from Manu. Classy offload, hitting hard in defence etc
-
Great defence from Otago during that period.
-
looked like a try was scored but Cantabs carried on and blew it
-
Weโre a bit panicky out there.
Some nice play but lacking that finishing ability.
-
silly decision to run that
-
WTF is all this talk about attitude, it's almost as important as aura the way they go on about it.
-
@chimoaus it's like momentum right?
-
@nzzp or natural talent.
-
Has Ian Smith been spending too much time smoking and gambling instead of sipping honey tea?
-
Christ how many forward passes are we gonna see
-
@Yeetyaah been alot this season!!
-
Nasi Manu looks good. Super rugby worthy?
-
messy passage of play there, but results in an Otago try
-
I reckon that shoulda been a penalty for that rip
-
Poor ball retention and poor offloads seem to be a feature of both sides.
-
Just the one useful comment from me.
Love the way Drummond always has to pull his angry tough guy face when he scores.
-
thats a try
