  • Thanks Number 10. Is the full draw out yet? I'll be in town for my dads 75th on 30th April - any idea who NOBM play that Saturday?

  • April 30

NOB Marist away to Havelock North (Anderson Park).

    Taradale 22 Havelock 17
    Pirate 13 Tamatea 8
    Tech 26 Central 25

  • Only three unbeaten teams after two rounds - Clive, Pirates, NOBM.

  • Hurricanes Tony Lamborn (Havelock Nth) and Geoff Cridge (Hastings R+S) played for their clubs this weekend.

Karl Lowe will probably be turning out for Clive this weekend against Taradale.

  • Cheers for the updates guys - I wonder, when did MAC last beat Havelock North?

Hurricanes Tony Lamborn (Havelock Nth) and Geoff Cridge (Hastings R+S) played for their clubs this weekend.

Karl Lowe will probably be turning out for Clive this weekend against Taradale.

Good for Cridge to get some rugby under his belt - no word on Renton?

    Is Lowe finished in Japan?

  • I heard whispers he might have got some game time for a premier reserve team down here in Wellington on Good Friday and notice he was listed as being on the bench for the College Old Boys-University premier team this last weekend. There must be a relaxation for HBs Super Rugby players to allow them to play club rugby outside of HB if they so desire. Come to think of it he probably is not registered with anyone in the Bay given that until last weekend he had never played a senior grade club match before in his life. Good to see messrs Cridge and Lamborn turning out for their "home" clubs and not their Wellington "allocated clubs", good effort guys.

I note that Marvan Karawana managed to make the starting lineup for Wainuiomata on Saturday as well.

Nepia, here is a link to a recent story about Karl Lowe

    Pirates 15 - NOB Marist 18
    Tamatea 16 - Tech OB 25
    Taradale 5 - Clive 17

Now only two unbeaten teams after just three rounds - Clive and NOB Marist.

Havelock Nth picked up their first win.

I read Riccitelli had a great game for Havelock Nth, and that Lamborn and Cridge also played club rugby this weekend. Karl Lowe played for Clive again.

  • 16 April (round four) Prem results

    Clive 17 - MAC 20

    Hastings RS 36 - Central HB 17

    Havelock North 28 - Pirates 20

Napier OB Marist 47 - Tech OB 10

    Taradale 61 - Tamatea 7

With Clive's loss means NOB Marist are now the only undefeated team.

  • After round eight of the Nash Cup, points table is:

    Pts
    34 NOB Marist
    34 MAC
    23 Clive
    22 Pirates
    20 Tech OB R+S
    19 Taradale
    18 Hastings R+S
    15 Havelock North
    7  Central HB R+S
    2  Tamatea

Final round draw on Sat 21st:
    Pirates v Central HB R+S
    Havelock North v Clive
    NOB Marist v Taradale
    Tech OB R+S v MAC
    Hastings R+S v Tamatea

Rules for teams tying on the same number of points - the winner of their individual match takes the higher position. In round one NOB Marist defeated MAC 33-29 so NOB Marist on top, and will guarantee winning the Nash Cup by defeating Taradale with a four-try bonus point even if MAC do the same to Tech OB. Should be an interesting final round.

  • Premiers – first round of Maddison Trophy (28/5)

    Tamatea 27, Pirate 34
    NTOB 38, Central 27
    NOBM 51, MAC 12
    Havelock North 9, Taradale 40
    HRS 33, Clive 35

  • A couple of surprising results yesterday.

    1. Havelock Nth conceding 40 points and losing by 31 points - I wonder when the last time was for both of those?
    2. The number two team in the Nash Cup losing by 39 points, and conceding 51 points, to the number one team in the Nash Cup.

  • I can't believe the only game I was in Napier for this year, was with my team NOB playing like crap and losing to Havelock North back at the end of April - Shannon Chase cutting us to pieces

  • Premiers – 2nd round of Maddison Trophy (4/6)

    Taradale 30, HRS 26
    MAC 19, Havelock North 46
    Central 8, NOBM 33
    Napier Pirates 21, NTOB 5
    Clive 20, Tamatea 3

  • Gees MAC have completely collapsed after Everard Reid left.

  • Gees MAC have completely collapsed after Everard Reid left.

    From the Hawke's Bay Today:

MAC manager Narley Tuliau said numerous players were unavailable because of injuries. Assistant coach Vili Malaitai had to play halfback and fullback Tom Iosefo had to leave his brother's wedding to play for the below-strength hosts.

  • Watched Hastings RS v MAC today.

Hastings RS won 33-8, halftime was only 6-3.

Geoff Cridge played the whole game at number eight and scored a try. Mason Emerson played fullback in the first half. Was switched to the left wing in the second half and scored an excellent try taking a long cutout pass on halfway and at pace beat the fullback with an outside swerve to score behind the posts.

Hastings RS had the three tallest forwards on the park - Cridge, Sanaila Waqa, and Ben Parsons (blindside flanker). An odd tactic from Hastings RS was to call short lineouts on the majority of their throws and leave Parsons in and put Cridge and Waqa in the backs. The lock that started with Waqa only came up to his shoulders. The Hastings scrum went a lot better in the second half when Parsons partnered Waqa at lock.

Both teams goalkicking was below 50%.

  • Phew, still alive after the hard task of smacking Clive at Farndon Park. Come on Texans bowling Taradale at Whitmore next week and MAC over in Flaxmere the week after should be enough to sneak into the semis!

  • Phew, still alive after the hard task of smacking Clive at Farndon Park. Come on Texans bowling Taradale at Whitmore next week and MAC over in Flaxmere the week after should be enough to sneak into the semis!

Is Guildford already playing for Tech? He wasn't last weekend because his registration hadn't been finalised; not sure about this weekend. Could boost the Texans in the final games of the season.

  • I think next Sat (16th) could be the last round where the Magpies are available for their clubs as the first pre-season match for the Mitre 10 Cup squad is v Manawatu on the 30th.

There is still one round-robin match and the semis and final after the 16th.

Some provinces like North Harbour and Taranaki ended their round-robins last weekend (3rd).

  • Results 16 July

    Havelock Nth 27 - Hastings RS 10
    Tech OB 8 - Taradale 39
    Tamatea 18 - Central HB R+S 13

    Tamatea - 8
    MAC - 7

NOBM and Taradale guaranteed top two spots.
Pirates, Havelock Nth, Hastings RS playing for the other two semi-final spots.
Pirates and Havelock Nth just need the win (without bonus point) to make the semi-finals.
Hastings RS need one of them to lose

    Draw for final round:

    Central HB RS v Pirates
    Clive v Havelock North
    Taradale v NOBM
    MAC v Tech OB
    Tamatea v Hastings RS

The Magpies will be will be withdrawn from club rugby after next week's final round.

  • Was periously close to Whitmore Park yesterday (had to make a delivery to Ashridge Road)  and headed back to Wellington via Georges Drive. Sadly time pressures made it impossible to detour and call in just for a few minutes. The scoreline looks disappointing but I presume it was a try and a penalty to the home side against 13 hotly disputed penalty goals to the visitors!

  • Maddison Cup results 23/7:

    NOMB 34, Taradale 21
    Havelock North 42, Clive 19
    HRS 52, Tamatea 17
    MAC 56, Tech 34
    Pirates 38, Central 17

    Points table (final standings):
    NOBM 44

    HRS 28
    Tech 17
    Clive 16
    MAC 13
    Central 12
    Tamatea 8

That should result in the following semis:

    NOBM v Havelock North
    Taradale v Pirates

  • NOBM 18 v Havelock North 16
    Taradale 25  v Pirates 22

As a Napier Old Boys supporter I am glad that Ricitelli and Lamborn were in Wellington today

  • NOBM 41 v Taradale 3

Finally a couple of trophies after many lean years.

I got to make it to one game this year, and that was the one game all year that the they lost (v Villagers in Nash Cup). At least I proved my jinx status

  • Congrats Stockcar - your boys have won their first Maddison since 2002. A long time between drinks!

Still don't like the M in NOBM huh?
