The current top four in club rugby are Patumahoe, Karaka, Onewhero and Bombay with Ardmore Marist and Waiuku in touch.

  • Nice signings, watched Luteru play club rugby down here last year, and wondered why I didn't see him last weekend.

Looks like a huge talent at that level.

  • Luteru looked very handy in his time for the NZ U20s also.

  • Fuck. Cowley lost to the mooloos. He looks the goods. Guess he sees Pulu and the new U20s hb at CM and is looking for a regular gig.

  • Below is the Cavaliers Selection squad to prepare for a game against Northland at Wellsford on May 18. This group has been selected from the first 7 rounds of Club Rugby.

  • Looks like Kali Hala(Auckland 7s speedster) is trying his hand over there this year.

That's probably George Edwards from MAGS, right? I didn't realize he was back in rugby, as he was in the Warriors U20s not too long ago. He was the 1st 5 for MAGS a couple of years ago.

I thought Ki Anufe disappeared, because he wasn't in the Counties team last year. I thought he went really well as back-up to Kerr in 2014. He's a better 10 than Francis IMO.

  • Ron Raaymakers back. Good.

I assume the bolding of Skelton is because he is related to that big useless lump that plays for the Tahs?

  • He would be his younger brother who was signed by Waikato last year.  A big hua, not fit, hard to tackle.  He played for Waikato development last year.  Waikato must have given up on him or he has wanted to move closer to his Auckland family.

  • He would be young enough to learn how to train professionally.

Him and his brother need trainings tips from this guy

  • Shit, I just looked up google to see how Daniel Adongo was getting on and found this from last year

Police have twice in the past three months been called to the Fishers' home of former Colts linebacker Daniel Adongo to investigate potential domestic violence, and the NFL confirmed Friday it is investigating Adongo under its personal conduct policy.
The Colts waived Adongo on Thursday, one week after the second police call on Dec. 10. Adongo was ruled out of Sunday's loss at Jacksonville, though the team did not give a reason for the decision. Coach Chuck Pagano would not comment on whether the decision to waive Adongo was related to the police calls.
Hamilton County deputy prosecutor Amy Summerfield said in a statement that no charges would be filed and the case is closed.
On Oct. 24, a woman told police that she was afraid of Adongo and did not want him to return to his residence but "was not forthcoming with any information in reference to these incidents," according to the police report. She indicated that arguments had occurred over the past several months. Adongo went to the Fishers Police Department while officers were speaking with the woman and said he would not stay at the home that evening and was going to end the relationship, according to the police report.

According to the police report, Adongo said he has an "open case" with the NFL and was limited on what he could say. The report states, "Adongo advised the information (the woman) provided is inaccurate and the NFL Investigators have all the information to prove that." NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy on Friday responded by email to a question from IndyStar regarding the case: "We are aware and it's under review."
On Dec. 10, police returned to the home after Dawn Monks, who said she is a friend of the woman, told them she had received text messages from the woman reading "911" and "Help." Monks told police that Adongo had previously kicked open the bathroom door, grabbed the woman by the throat and held her underwater in the bathtub, according to the report. She said Adongo had previously punched multiple holes in the walls and damaged appliances, the woman's car, furniture and cell phones.
When police spoke to the woman, she was covering herself in a blanket. Police noted that she had a black left eye, a large cut on her lip and marks on her lower wrists. The woman said "she caused these marks to herself because she is crazy," according to the police report. Monks later went to the police station, according to the police report, and said the woman had said Adongo had caused the marks.

I really liked this guy as a player. Bummer.

Can't find anything on what he is up to now. What a waste.

  • Below is the Cavaliers Selection squad to prepare for a game against Northland at Wellsford on May 18. This group has been selected from the first 7 rounds of Club Rugby.

I suspect that it is likely to be a trial squad, like yours with many players unavailable for one reason or another and some fringe players pushing for a Mitre 10 Cup spot.

  • He would be his younger brother who was signed by Waikato last year.  A big hua, not fit, hard to tackle.  He played for Waikato development last year.  Waikato must have given up on him or he has wanted to move closer to his Auckland family.

    dropped.

  • dropped.

Willy, slightly off topic, but one of my mates in Waikato club land has told me Waikato has only signed 6 guys for the NPC season, and their delay is causing a heap of guys to sign with other unions? Is that true? And if so, what the fuck?

Just caught up with reading this and found this quote interesting..

“Because of the new rules we are looking at how it may change some positions, so for example we played Harry Fitzsimons (Karaka) at openside flanker, he is usually a lock and he went really well, so did Fotu Lokotui (Patumahoe). Basically, the jackling number 7 who gets his hands on the ball at the breakdown is out of the game.

Not sure if that will change over time as players and coaches adapt even more, but if that gets through to test rugby a certain Mr pocock may need to change his game.

WTW can't remember his password so has to wait until he gets home to answer this...

    The massive pork chop!

  • Just got this from WTW

Apparently a few players who had contracts and didn’t front up last year, were told they needed to show some form and attitude in Club Rugby to get back and 6 is a gross understimate of signed contracts

  • Nah, I wasn't, I saw the score on facebook.

Cavaliers Selection fall short to Tasman High Performance XV

The Counties Cavaliers Selection squad were beaten 29-22 by the Tasman Makos High Performance XV in a pre-season hit out at Massey Park last night.
The home side got off to a pretty slow start, letting in a couple of quick tries to trail 17-5 at the half time break. It’s just the second time the Cavaliers have played under the new rules, so it took them a while to adjust.

A positive for coach Darryl Suasua was that they were good at the breakdown and didn’t go off their feet. They weren’t penalised in that area.
It was a better second half for the Cavaliers, who dominated the scrum in the second spell and won quite a few penalties. Tasman have been playing under the new laws, therefore they knew what to expect.

The Cavaliers looked good when they attacked, it was just some defensive lapses that cost them the game in the end.
The Steelers squad will go fulltime later in July, with the 2016 Mitre 10 Cup squad to be confirmed at a later date.

  • Counties Manukau signings:

Hika Elliot and Sherwin Stowers back for Steelers

  • Stowers is the type of guy who if he has a strong NPC could nab a Super contract. The Crusaders need a few reliable types out wide for next season.

  • Squad Announcement 2016

    25 July 2016

Steelers coaches Darryl Suasua, Grant Henson and Semo Sititi have announced their squad for the 2016 Mitre 10 Cup. The squad includes 12 new players, with New Zealand Under 20’s representatives Jonathan Taumateine and Orbyn Leger among the new faces. Former New Zealand Secondary Schools captain Sootala Fa’aso’o is included in the squad alongside returning Chiefs hooker Hika Elliot.

The squad includes a number of Super Rugby and New Zealand Sevens players; Jimmy Tupou, Jordan Taufua, Piers Francis, Sam Vaka, Toni Pulu and Sione Fifita. Augustine Pulu, Sione Molia and Sonny Bill Williams will join the squad at the conclusion of the Rio Olympics. Sevens veteran Sherwin Stowers will line up for the Steelers in 2016.
The squad has been hit hard by injury throughout the Super Rugby season. Chiefs props Nepo Laulala and Pauliasi Manu, loose forwards Maama Vaipulu and Sam Henwood as well as Chiefs outside back Glen Fisi’iahi are all contracted to the Steelers but all unavailable due to injury.

Head coach Darryl Suasua is excited about the squad he has.
“The number of season-ending injuries has provided opportunities for players who have performed well in our club competition. The real challenge for us this season will be adjusting to the new laws at the Mitre 10 Cup level. Most provinces have adopted to the new laws during their club seasons, where as we have played club under the old rules. A big work on will be adjusting to the tackle ball laws between now and the start of the competition. We’re looking forward to competing well this season.”
All of our major sponsors return for the season; PIC Insurance Brokers, South Auckland Motors, Kukri & ECOLight will all be supporting the Steelers in 2016.
Season Memberships are on sale now from only $50 for a South Auckland Motors Embankment Membership or $100 for a Grandstand Membership for an adult and $50 for a child. • Steelers vs Taranaki Pre-Season Match Report
    30 July 2016

The Counties Manukau Steelers had a good battle against Taranaki in their first Mitre 10 Cup pre-season match in Otorohanga this afternoon.

In average conditions, the Steelers fell just short 14-10 to Taranaki at Island Reserve.

Taranaki got themselves on the board early, breaking through the Steelers defence to score under the posts, before scoring a 60 metre intercept try shortly after to go 14-0 up.

Sherwin Stowers scored the Steelers' first try and they went into the half time break 14-5 down.

20 minutes into the second half Stowers scored his second. It was a really well worked team try, with Stowers hooking onto a good ball from halfback Jonathan Taumateine to make it the full time score 14-10.

Steelers coach Darryl Suasua cleared his bench, allowing everyone to get a run. He was particularly proud of their scrum.

"We had a really solid scrum and that was all the boys. Everyone got on and the scrum didn't weaken as new players came on and for a lot of the boys it was their first run with Counties. We were really happy with the hit out."

Suasua said Stowers' experience was invaluable and he kept talking to the boys throughout the game until he came off at the 60 minute mark.

Taranaki have been playing under the new rules throughout their club season, so the big thing today was for the Steelers to adjust to the new laws. Suasua said it was tough to start out with and they had 8 penalties against them before they got their first penalty. But once they adapted they got some dominance.

Well done to those players who played for Counties for the first time and thank you to Taranaki for the match. Our Super Rugby players will start returning to the squad throughout the next few weeks.

The Steelers next pre-season fixture is against Samoa A on Friday 5th August at 6:30pm at ECOLight Stadium. Tickets are pre-season prices; Adults $10, Students $7 & Kids 13 & Under are FREE. Tickets are available at www.iticket.co.nz or the CMRFU Office at ECOLight Stadium.

That's a real bummer. He hit some awesome form a couple of seasons ago and would have been a good addition to the Chiefs.

What's with the dumb decision to not use the new trial laws in club rugby this year? Other Unions did and it seems they really get an advantage on not giving away penalties. We have made it hard for ourselves.

  • Counties Manukau Steelers team named to play Game of Three Halves

Steelers coaches Darryl Suasua, Grant Henson and Semo Sititi have named their team to take on Northland and the All Blacks in tomorrow’s Game of Three Halves at ECOLight Stadium in Pukekohe, kick off 5:30pm.

  • An awesome win against Hawkes Bay who have traditionally beaten us. Could be contenders if we had one of our fringe AB Props available and if SBW only had a minor injury and just needed a run to get back in to fitness.

    • Steelers debut

We need Quinn to tell us which schools these guys came from..

  • Ken Laban is equally, if not more knowledgable about players schools as well so I'm sure he'll look after that department (not that I'm against it).

I'm not against it either.. I'm actually interested lol..
Usually teams show which clubs they come from, but I'm keen to know about the schools
