Club rugby reviews

  • Here is a flashback to the past when rugby reports were proper reports done by people on sight actually watching the game rather than relying on "according to the team manager" (HB Today's version of rugby reports) - for news about what happenedmight have happened.

Well done Wanganui Chronicle, just a shame more newspapers are not following your lead.

  • ODT has correspondents at (generally) 4 of the 5 club games every Saturday.

  • The press do an alright job down here

  • In Dunedin we have a fantastic three hour radio show, on Radio Sport hoisted by Craig Cumming, which gives updates every 15 minutes from the games. Absolutely brilliant show, if I don't mind saying myself.

  • Some interesting views on the matches in Dunedin where the correspondent pulls no punches about the standard of play in the Dunedin v Pirates encounter! i guess the scope of the reports is really dictated to by the amount of space available and the expectations/demands of the papers readers. The Taihape v Pirates review was certainly comprehensive but I suppose not every match can be allocated that many column inches when the number of games to be reported on is high.

We have something similar up here in Wellington where we still have a commentary from one game each week plus the studio also crosses to on the ground correspondents for very regular updates of other matches.
