South Africa v Ireland Test#2

  • Did the chap that got red carded get banned for this game too?

Barnes ssaid it well during the week in that if Ireland and England don't get up for either of the next two test, the first test wins won't mean much at all.

I tink Ireland can get the job done this weekend.

  • Yeah, I think he got a week ban

  • Yeah, I think he got a week ban

    Spot on!

  • If SA don't hammer Ireland physically this week then walk over the broken bodies to score tries, then all pride in the jersey has been lost.

  • It's those sort of Neanderthal tactics that have SA where they are. NH teams love narrow 1 of the ruck "he-man" tactics. Easy to defend.

  • I've got Ireland +9.5 and am struggling to think of why the TAB isn't offering a tighter spread.

I can see SA winning since they have a lot of pride in their jumper, (arguably more pride than any other team in the world) but I would be surprised if they do it comfortably.

  • South Africa always tougher on the high veldt.

They'll bounce back this week I think as much as I'd like Ireland to win given my ancestry.

  • If the Boks don't win - at altitude, home crowd, Irish key injuries/suspensions, series on the line - then they are shit.

  • I have been reading a few articles and maybe the Irish are being careful not to say anything to fire up the Saffers but jeez they don't sound confident of winning. "Maybe we can win". "Maybe if we keep all 15 of our guys on the field"."Maybe this". "Maybe that".  FIRE UP IRELAND.

Ireland $4 head to head, not as good as last week, but still decent.

  • These NH goal kickers are bloody sharp shooters.. everyone seems to have a Wilkinson type goal kicker..
    Irish up 12-3
10 mins left in the first half

  • Why would the ref award the try, but then take time out to check if there's a try?
Why don't u check with ur assistant refs first before awarding it
    Irish up 19-3
5 mins left in the half

  • South Africa looking as shit as Ireland's looking sharp

  • Is that the crowd booing off the boks? Wow

  • SA are a complete and utter shambles. At this rate they are in for a caning.

  • Sad to see the Springboks playing so poorly. Must be one of their worst performances ever.

  • Woke up so I checked the score. Just had a good laugh. An extra $300 in the pocket so no complaints from my side. If you don't wanna pick your best players cause you don't like their skin tone then that's what you deserve. RIP Springboks

  • Going ok so far.
Stay on your toes Ireland. The job is only half done.

who would you have in for whom?

  • A South African winger clean bust a tackle? First time in a while I've seen that

  • Squeaky bum time.
4 point margin. Ten to go.
    Ireland need to score next.

  • that was a huge drop there in Ireland's intensity since 15 minutes ago or so. Altitude?

  • who would you have in for whom?
Steven Kitshoff has been the best loosehead in South Africa for at least 2 years. Give him a chance.
Damian de Allende has just given us the lead with a good try, but dear oh dear how many tackles has he missed?
First Irish try was a direct result of Mvovo playing like he does and cowering away from a high ball. I can name a handful of better wingers but none that are considered "African" by the government.
Siya Kolisi has been nothing short of a disaster.
The difference between teams at test level is minuscule. When you're giving up 20% of your effectiveness by not picking the best player for each position, you're making it much much harder for yourself. Coaching is only a small part of it.
Very relieved with the win. Very surprised, but very very very relieved.
My heart breaks for Allister Coetzee. He's an incredible guy. But he will be given mission impossible over the next 4 years.

  • How good was Ruan Combrinck and Warren Whiteley when they came on? Saved our butts.

  • Mvovo and Kolisi shown up by their replacements.

AC accepted the job knowing full well what the main requirement is.

Well done Ruan Combrink deserved MotM.

Wonder who is going to lose his place in the team since Combrink's spot cannot be denied.

  • Congrats South Africa. Deserved win.
    Ireland. Dumb.
Interesting final match but I suspect not enough left in the locker after that.
17th test this season takes its toll.

  • Mvovo and Kolisi shown up by their replacements.

Whiteley actually came on for Duane. Made him look amateur too.
Combrinck needs to replace Mvovo who has never been good enough.
Other players who need to be looked at: Etzebeth, Louw, Pietersen (he's just terrible) and Willie (who needs to be more accurate)

    Ouch.

  • that Aussie ref was pretty good. Thought he was one of the best in Super Rugby, too

I'm gonna disagree and say he missed a lot. The most blatant was Elton Jantjies launching an up and under and Franco Mostert was about 10m in front of him and already moving forward. He got to the receiver about the same time as Jantjies. Would've been a sure 3 points for Ireland at a crucial time.
Send us Wayne Barnes any day. The kiwis have a moan about him for one off decisions (because of that grudge) but his consistency and accuracy... For me it makes him the best referee in world rugby.

  • Ouch.

Haha I thought for sure it was over. In my defense I thought 12 - 3 scoreline was two Irish tries. They did very well to come back.

Yes, Combrinck definitely made a difference. Haven't seen any of the SA franchises games this year, is Combrinck just a run through walls in a straight line guy (effective today, for sure), or does he bring more than that? I was also impressed by the stocky little blonde girl at 9, very busy, very nippy.

You didn't watch the Lions v Chiefs game, did you?
But to answer your question, yes he does bring more to the table than the usual bash rugby.
If AC doesn't start with Jaco Kriel next week, we are fucked. I suspect the Irish to throw the kitchen sink with the baby in it at us in PE.

Must be altitude. They were defending like Spartans last week but turned to jelly this week. Once the Boks started breaking tackles their confidence grew and they knew Ireland were shattered.

I don't think Ireland really done anything through the backline. The positive for Ireland was Tadhg Furlong taming the beast.

  • The worst token black player is kolisi. He is just not an international class 7.

Cheers, I shall see if I can catch up with that game sometime.

I don't fr one moment think he's anywhere her as bad as some of our Kiwi brothers think, I reckon he has too many major brain farts to be a really good ref. I find it difficult to go last Owens as the ref I'd most want to be in charge.

Absolutely HATE pulling the token card because it makes people think you're only picking on certain players while there are numerous players who should've been ashamed of their performance, but when you look at it on a case-by-case basis, then Kolisi is the most obvious of the lot. Doesn't have the build or the type of game required of a blindside and was thrown in there hoping that he'd somehow be able to run the ball like Willem Alberts while still getting around the field quickly.
They're going to have a tough time keeping the numbers up while accommodating Ruan Combrinck as well.Yes, Combrinck definitely made a difference. The bump offs were actually somewhat surprising. He's usually more of a beat you one on one and break down the sideline type player who makes very few mistakes. I think what that was was being pissed off watching what was happening from the sideline.

  • I thought when Heaslip went over that Ireland couldn't lose, but they clearly ran out of puff.

Maybe more of a chance next week at sea level, but I suspect the Irish blew the opportunity to win the series right then and there.

Good to see how well Tadgh Furlong went though. Clearly now you'd have to say he is Mike Ross' successor.

I don't think many of believe he is consistently bad (any more) but when he does stinkers he really does stinkers. As I wrote earlier it takes a real lack of class or knowledge to make Ayoub look good by comparison.
